growalot
A whole new ball game for me...I hunt our place which is entirely on the west north west facing slope of the hill...The 8M property is facing South east and a much thicker hill side of hard woods ,balsam fir and pine. it has a full time running stream on the east edge and a dirt seasonal road that runs the west side. There were ag crops in an open field at the base but they are weeds at the moment. I know there are good buck there for I had one jump the hood of my car on the way to PT last year. He had a large tall rack. There is an actual road that runs up and around it so scouting shouldn't be too difficult....need a hitch for the car to pull the gator...we'll see Mr B's talking about it...especially if I start going to camp It's been some years since I've had to pull a gutted deer up out of the valley down there in Alfred by hand... PS They guys mowed a really nice trail down past 2 stands for me this summer Edited August 5, 2015 by growalot

growalot
So here I have been use to the deer moving west to east in the mornings and east to west in the evenings I have gotten use to saying they are chasing the sun...We also get that W/N/W wind later in the season...and for the last 5 or so years a common south east wind in the early part of the season...Clueless how this will pan out on that property...I know much of it gets little sun for that is where all the balsam fir live...... moist soils with low light. I need the give the owner a ring and let him know I want to go up and check things out this weekend...He's still out of state at the moment and will be home next week. He has a long time friend that has hunted it for years but I do not think in bow season or often, I think it will be a good mid day spot There are no houses on the hill and a hunting group up over the top with planted fields so I know I'll be looking for movement times from his place to the feed fields. This will be only for the first 2 weeks in Oct. and I will still be going to camp but mainly to hunt bear any thing else would be a bonus then...have taken doe during those hunts. growalot
No, We have a friend that owns land in 8M... he's offered to let me hunt it for years but I never took him up on it...He's the one that wants Mr B and I to take a road trip to the Cabelas in PA...I have said no or avoided it because he is way too generous and I know he'd be trying to buy us stuff...He called me over a couple of months ago to give him some thoughts on things...lol I got there and he'd been to a bunch of yard sales and bought a lot of hunting gear..climbing stand ...lamps bags stoves ect ect...Well he tried to give me a bunch of it...he does not hunt nor camp. I managed to leave having told him his other buddies could make use of it and I have 2 climbers I'm now leery of due to seeing the tops snapping out of our mature trees. Any whoo... I left with a fanny pack and permission to hunt the property. I told him what the DEC was planning to do and would only use it the first 2 weeks of Oct if they went ahead with the plans. My daughter told me yesterday he is trying to figure out how to kidnap us to his place down south....Something about getting us to go to Cabelas with a promise not to buy us anything then leaving and driving south to his home there after stocking up on snacks and water...lol Edited August 6, 2015 by growalot
