The_Real_TCIII
I'm going up this weekend, can someone recommend a stream/river besides the Ausable? I've fished that a few times
wdswtr
The Ausable is the place to fish, that is the big draw to the area for flyfishing. Spent hundreds of hours on that river. Theres no better in NY in my opinion.
The_Real_TCIII
Can you suggest a spot? I always fish it at whiteface and catch a bunch of stockers but no big or native fish
wdswtr
Sure can, but Im not saying publicly, I will send you a private message.
Zem18
Good luck up there. Just spent a week up there at Fish Creek. Fishing was not so great on the ponds and I would have loved to do some stream fishing but we ended up shopping in Lake Placid and went up to the Summit at Whiteface Mtn instead. DirtTime
I know this is late, but there are Union Falls and Franklin Falls. Both have great fishing, and both have some great bullhead fishing. They also have small tributaries with some good stream/creek fishing. There's also the Saranac Lake. There are a ton of streams and small lakes to fish in that area, Taylor Pond, Silver Lake, or if you are in driving distance there is Meacham.
The_Real_TCIII
I fished about four hours this morning and couldn't find a fish. But the scenery was amazing and it beat shopping!
The_Real_TCIII
I just caught a bunch of blue gills and rock bass on a nymph in Mirror Lake, so I'm calling this trip a success
Zem18
Sounds like a success to me. We caught some perch and had a small fish fry. I also caught a few largemouth and one 20 inch pike. Tons of bluegill and smaller perch as well. We did catch a few fish that I have never seen before. Waiting for my buddy to send me a picture from his phone. I'm sure someone on here will know what it is.
