old forge area

Just wondering if anyone hunts pheasant/grouse or any other small game in the area.  Curious if there are good opportunities here.  Thanks!

I have a cabin on uncas. Been going there for 30 years and I have to say as much as I love it, and it's my favorite place on earth the animal sign is bad and gets worse every year as the canopy grows and no fires, controlled burns or selective loging has allowed it to recover. Bears seem to be coming back.

 

I cant say for sure there are no pheasants or grouse but I have never seen them in all the hiking i do and there aren't nearly the fields you find downstate. heck i see more squirrels in my backyard than i do up there.

Thanks.  Yeah i'm near big moose.  I see a couple grouse, no squirrels or rabbits yet.  I was just wondering if it was me

most of it is labeled as forever wild. mean no man interference at all. even some of the lakes/ponds dont allow motor boats. It's pretty cool on one hand, but detrimental on the other because they also don't let mother nature control it.

if you are looking to hunt them do your research there are areas up there with nice populations. not sure of old forge area but i know others up there that are productive.
