Marion
I am currently looking into getting some custom fit earplugs either electronic or solid. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for which ones they like and any pros/cons to each. At 27 years of age I figure my hearing isn't quite up to snuff courtesy of a couple hunts both shotgun (12ga. Slug) and rifle (7mm wby mag) without hearing protection and decided I want the best I can afford to stem any future loss. Especially with the new .300wby with muzzle brake. Looking to keep the price under $1500 for the pair. Thank you all for checking this thread out and I look forward to and appreciate any feedback you may have. Jeff You Can't Beat My Meat! Curmudgeon
The best earplugs I have found are wax. When they warm they mold to the shape of your ear. They are great for light sleepers. I bought them in France but they should be available here for a couple of bucks.I keep plastic plugs on a string when hunting deer. As soon as a deer is sighted, I put them in. wildcat junkie
I've used THESE in the past. They work great. They amplify the sounds of the woods yet suppress the muzzle blast. You can here a twig snap a long way off on a quiet evening. They are basically the same as my mother's $3000 custom molded hearing aids except for the suppression feature & they come W/3 sizes of silicone plugs instead of the custom molding. Same volume control on/off switch & battery tray as her high $$$$ custom fit hearing aids. I even used them when shooting tarp/skeet/sporting clays. I lost one after several years of use.
