How can you know what exactly spooked a bird?

I believe it COULD have spooked a bird or three over the years. The fact that it's a Benelli doesn't bother me, I've had it for 16 spring seasons and its performed well. I don't believe painting it will diminish the value all that much....being a 3.5" chamber gun it's not like it'll ever be destined for the trap & sleet ranges or a big sporting clays player. It's a work horse, plain and simple.
