Trout fishing slow

With all the rain and high water the trout fishing has been real slow this spring. I have fished the river (West Branch Delaware) and some small streams. I have even gone down into PA and have found the same thing. The water is running high and fast and that makes for tough fishing. I have tried all kinds of bait and artificials lures. Some days I pick up one or two for a full day of fishing and some days not even a bite. I would like to know how everyone else is making out? Are any of you having any luck?

Noodle..I have been out twice... Both times I fished small tributaries to a larger river...I did OK...Landed 9 wild browns with several between 16 and 18 inches...I also lost nearly as many from fish hooking up and running me under banks, trees and stumps and then breaking off..

I cancelled my annual opening weekend trip to PA last weekend due to high water...

I'll be starting to hunt gobblers Monday ( Ontario opener) so probably the next trout fishing I do will be afternoon fishing with dry flies in May....

I like to fish the west brance off of Rt 17 and work down the west branch. Or if nothing works I then love the beaverkill. I like the week prior to May 30 for the flies and the old fly rod. What with the issue of felt on the waders boots ??? some state now say you should not have then on the bottom of the boots.

sweet old bill, I know the piece of water that you are talking about below the Rt. 17 bridge. It is excellent fishing and I have fished it many times. If you like to fish artifical or fly fish it is great water if you only want to C/R  and not keep any fish. It is artifical lures only and C/R from the bridge,  1 point 8 miles down stream.

I saw in the (New York Outdoor News) that NYS, DEC. is not going to outlaw felt waders, they feel that fisherman need to be educated on how to keep the soles of their waders clean, so as long as you are fishing in NYS you don't need to worry about it. If you fish in other states you will have to check with that state. I fish some in PA and I wear my felt waders down there and have not been stopped.
