Forest Hunter
I want to try and hunt and harvest a turkey this year with my bow. I understand that most people that go turkey hunting with a firearm aim for the head not to ruin the meat. A turkeys head is a pretty small target and with a good rifle or a shotgun that is not a very hard target. With a bow it seems like it would be more difficult and if you shoot it in the body it could ruin yhe meat. So should I put one of my pins on the head of the turkey or stick an arrow right in it? growalot
Well the area where the wing joins the body would be the spot...when picturing a turkey...... that would be the under side of him when dress out...not the breast area...if in the case of a strutting tom there or with his back toward you...him facing directly away where his tail feathers end at the base of spine....this is unless you are using that special broadhead made JUST for cutting off their heads...but you'd have to ask someone else if those are legal in NY...they may not be...just like hunting turkeys with rifles isn't legal in gun season...good Luck
