agross
If its the piece of state land that u can access from either cue ball road or davey road in the southwest corner or chenango cty where it meets broome county then yes i have been there several times but mostly for turkey hunting. Now depending when u are hunting oct or nov...because usually the prevailing winds in November are from the west... Entering from Davey Road (small not wide entrance to the state land) there is a parking area and a well worn logging trail / snowmobile trail that goes for a good ways...I was actually just there on Friday before openinng day looking for turkey. If you take the trail you will go through woods then old logged areas which have regrown horribly thick...but there was a bunch of runs criss crossing through this area. On a side note if you do enter off of Davey road hang a right as you go in and follow the stateland yellow marks on trees along the bordering posted signs as about 200 yds in or so there is a large apple orchard (old) just at the edge of the private land where it meets stateland. Maybe a good spot thick not to far away and some food...but later in season not sure how many apples are there. Now if you enter off of Cue ball road (which i have done numerous times) there is a very good (well in the spring it was) seasonal access road that travels straight for a long way. That area is mixed blocks of very thick pines on the right side going in and hardwoods on the left...seems pretty thick in areas to the left in hardwoods but to the right there are some longer shots possible for gun hunting down lanes of pines... As far as hunting pressure, cant tell you as i have never been there gun season for deer, I opt for private land for less aggravation. But im sure there are a few guys in there and considering the acces points im sure you are going to bump into someone. Now if this isnt the piece of stateland that you were talking about i just wasted all this time for nothing, well not really nothing as my option is to be watching old old reruns of the transformers cartoon with my 3 year old. agross
Oh and by the way the deer population in the area is pretty good. There are some good bucks around also but just have to find them.
cboy18
try the skellett rd end(old glendening). Been through it a few times. Think it is called beaver Flow though. Beaver meadow is further north I believe.
