  1. a little snow on the ground but probably wont last til the weekend. got out this pm. sure makes it easier on the eyes with a little snow. A lot of my stands are in brush lots between woods and fields, so the eyes take beating. bucks were moving good last weekend. Hope it keeps up this weekend.
  2. All kinds of apples around here. Hope the heat isn't too hard on them. Can't wait for blackberries!
  3. yes. except the ones that caught the late may frost. they look like grapes growing on the trees now. clusters!
  4. I like an annual mix to start, brassica and oats followed by ladino clover. Sometimes I will mix the clover in the first planting. Will try to do it this fall on a ~1 ac plot, same as you describe. I spay and only disc cuz the ground is so rocky my way. The plot I will do this yr is on flat land along the creek, so I may try the 3pt tiller. good luck. Share photos as you progress. I will try to get some up too. and anything Grow says is good as gold from what I've read. Have fun!
  5. Oh and sorry predate. I get a little touchy with poachers and trespassers. They have been a bigger problem than coyotes in the past.
  6. We have lots of foxes running around and coyotes, but I don't worry about the foxes.. Neighbors with chickens do. They will keep me from raising chickens. Coyotes are a pain. Had a coyote drag off a day old calf last yr. We got her back but she didn't make it. Luckily she was a twin. Now we get them in the barn or small pasture when they are ready to drop. I am going to get into varmit hunting, but now they have all those rules on the scary guns that work well for them. I keep my dog on leash this time of yr. He is on shock collar when not, for his safety. He is intact. Built a fence 10 ft from a day old fawn this yr. never moved. pretty cool. mom probably had fun getting to it. cows busted another out moving them from one pasture to another. It was funny watching them react to a little fawn hop up an run from them. I was ready to sell the herd when I first saw the photo that started this topic. Oh well hope I don't see anything that strange again. Thanks for putting me at ease.
  7. err shoulder??? Meat tends to fall off the bone in July...I do live in Chenango county though.... I hope I don't need to defend myself. Haven't dropped one in 5 yrs, waitin on big bucks or old does. Plenty walk under me or by me. had 19 walk by at 10 yds last fall but heard gruntin, last one was a doe tending. my bad! too late then.
  8. Can't wait for the blackberries.. Hope the blueberries are rockin as well. There were lots of flowers on them this spring.
  9. What do you boys do about #10 on that shirt and what the bizzare o fella was talkin about? Funny how it turned into us/ds. Without ds, ny would be like deliverance. just like #10 on that shirt...Lots of money put into us from ds. The stock market pays the way. I pay less per yr in taxes than most ds pay per month in rent. just trying to lighten it up.
  10. Thanks for the input all! I was a little concerned for a bit, but enough outside eyes have convinced me that it is just a big whiskered doe and a crazy camera shot. Guess I should be more concerned about these rascals.
  11. cam is above my knee below my waist, but looking down hill. Cant find any deer pics with that many long whiskers. eyes on deer seem to be outside head. If it is looking up and ears back what is the black semi circle down towards neck? head would look flat across top and nose would be close to eyes. I want to believe it is a deer.
  12. Checked my cams last week. Found this. What do you think? Convince me it isn't what I think it is. The 2nd one is for context. Didn't want to post this, but I have a beef herd and been trying to manage a decent deer herd for the past few yrs. Let me have it.....
  13. I will be working on trails to get to the plots and clearing on some edges for more sun.
  14. I cut the tree down when it is time to take the stand out.
