What have almost four week rifle season, it’s insanely too long. After the first week day time movement grinds to a halt for the most part. And if that isn’t long enough we follow it up with a week of muzzleloader season .

So yes we have a lot of abnormal nocturnal movement. Our regular season length stresses the herd and sends them into winter with. Poor start. We can see the effects of this by our horrible fawn recruitment rates.

Complaining about too long a hunting season, Hmmmm?

  2. NY has one of the longest deer seasons in the country. I can put 4 or 5 deer in my freezer if so desired. You can hunt deer for 1/4 of the year here, 3 months, that's a hell of alot longer than most other states. Record book bucks are taken in NY every single yr, and with AR I'm seeing monsters in Ulster that I only could have dreamed of when I started hunting in the 1970s. The articles claim of 15.1 hunters per sq mile sounds skewed. Maybe in some areas during early rifle but I don't buy it and have never seen anything like that. If anything hunter numbers being down in NY has made the sport more enjoyable for many. I remember upstate NY hunting in the 1980, 1970s and it was ridiculous at certain points in the season where you'd see orange in any given direction on state land. Also saying that having to pay for an archery license is a hostile environment is ridiculous. Lots of states charge an additional fee for their archery seasons. With the awesome hunting and long seasons I've enjoyed in this state in my lifetime I feel I get more than my money's worth and would probably pay more if required. Sorry but the article sounds like a sales pitch more than anything else

  3. Man you anti vaxxers don't miss a chance to pound your chests about not getting vaccinated. If you don't want the vaccine so what, don't get it. Almost makes you all look alittle insecure about your choice. I got vaxxed, could care less what anyone else does. Don't need to be reassured by anyone.

As I venture into more duck hunting on long island, I realize how incompetent the state, towns, county, and dec is at giving out the proper information. I have received numerous

fines, tickets, summons, etc. when I was told I was legal and good to go. Can we come together and put a compiled list together as to where NOT to hunt for one reason or another.

Town of Southampton. No hunting where the town owns the "bottom". Can someone elaborate on this?

Town of Huntington. No discharge of firearms anywhere in town of huntington inland, freshwater bodies, creeks, etc. No discharge of firearms in any of the harbors, lloyd harbor, huntington bay, not sure where the line ends if you want to hunt sea ducks in the sound. Maybe someone can chime in.

I used to hunt the south shore , Gilgo and Tobay beaches and marshes. Excellent hunting a long time ago with endless marsh to wander thru along the bays. I hunted an area in South Hampton once but felt like I was always in somebody's backyard, which we basically were, lol

  5. I've learned one thing about gun safety in my years. I never rely on the person handling the firearm within my vicinity to provide my safety. I rely on myself to avoid situations where I'm even around strangers with firearms. I stopped going to my local range for just that reason. Kinda pointless being shot dead and then saying, well that guy should've know how to handle that gun before he killed me. But I feel the same way at the range with guys who are supposedly in the know handling pistols. I stopped hunting with many guys because of the way they carry their rifles

    A) it doesn't happen everyday.
    B) it's a big deal because you have a rich idiot spouting off against guns yet has no problem playing with them for his own profit and then shoots someone because of HIS OWN negligence, noone else's, and yet it's still someone else's fault.

Took less two seconds to look up stats on accidental gun deaths sir, and it does happen every day. Average 400 to 800 per year. Mostly kids.

  7. New Mexico you can buy a handgun and head to a desert and shoot in less time than it takes to eat lunch. No training no nothing, only the dollars to pay for it. Doesn't surprise me that a guy like Baldwin shot someone. Happens everyday when someone who's never handled a real firearm is handed one. Only reason it's a big deal is because it's Alec Baldwin. Of course this is the perfect opportunity to use this women's death to stir up a perfect political sh*t storm.

No clue what grip she uses.  Full disclosure. She and I do NOT get along. I've tried since she was 12 when I came into her and her mom's life.

I'm so proud of who she has become, and have told her multiple times. She doesn't have to same feelings towards me.  Her loss. I'm fine with how she feels, her mom isn't.

    Girls can be that way
