You know, for someone who does nothing but slam the other forum, you sure know what's going on there every second of every day. If you really didn't care you wouldn't care so much. Just sayin'.

It’s called keeping your friends close and your idiots closer. One tried to play that game on this site and he has been removed. There are a couple others that very well may see the same fate. A few of us will keep this site now the way it use to be at the beginning. As you can see with a couple of the posts above it’s not very hard to call the idiots out.

So says the new Mayor here.........:mda:

No need for anything new around here. It’s actually been very nice and peaceful after the troublemakers that lived on this site has left. Well Belo pushed so long that he finally got tossed so maybe a few of the others that left will come back and get more of the same.

Little poem sent to me by one of my Buddys

When I was a youth I had no means or much time,

Now that I have means I have plenty of time but no youth.

    ===================================

Pretty much the way it goes for most. When I was a kid my equipment and transportation along with dough was pretty minimal along with always working with not a lot of time. Today I have pretty much all the equipment I ever wanted and enough money to use it but at 74 years of age I have to work at it more LOL.:D

    Al

No truer words spoken. Have to find something to buy for energy with all this extra cash. Lol

Been over to the other site, it's OK but this place has way more charm

If one wants to get your hand slapped by like 6 mods for 50 active users…pretty much the same ones that left here.. it’s perfect. You see the troll above would have gotten his hand slapped for stirring over there so he plays the same idiot card and comes here.

I am going to hold off for now on the crank cocking device until I see how I do cocking the crossbow over a period several shooting sessions. I watched the online videos of the device in operation and there is no doubt that it works well. I may be wrong but I think the more I manually cock the bow and start gaining technique the process should become somewhat easier, if not I will get a crank.

    Al

Just remember to check out the process in a tree stand if that’s where you will be hunting at all.

Why can't one post a link ,if one wants to switch they should be able to do so .

We post links for everything. If mods or MIA owners are worried about people leaving I'd think they should have better things to do . My two cents

Can’t say you/we have seen any links from this site supporting another Ny hunting forum. If one wanted to find the other site it would be a pretty simple google search I’m sure. Or you can Pm Bill like he is Others trying to get them to a site that is pretty much only used by those that were on this site before.

And that is what is sticking in their craw, they believed Bill's and a couple of other's doom and gloom forecast yet the board is humming along running smooth like a Swiss watch. Take it from someone that has run a couple of message boards, It is all about usable content not numbers.

    Al

And the biggest shit stirrer of all comes on here a posts crap and then runs right back over there trying to get those over there that left to get engaged also. One only has to go over there and skim thru a few of Bill’s posts to see even a few of them telling him to screw off about the other site.

Like Rob above,I am on both sites as are a number of others.  No problem  with being on an additional site.   I still contribute  here and with 5 Followers- my varied content is read by plenty.

Neither mod here reigned  in the Deer Vial man. Ever..

Plenty of good people  here to post up Threads for.

Rob is right- there is no Greener Grass- just an additional  opportunity  to check in with good people on a additional site.

And yet you were one of the biggest mouthpieces on this site saying how bad it is and it’s going to fail because nobody can join and yada yada yada and then you try and pull people off of this site to go over and join that site?  And you see nobody had to real in the deer man when 99% of the time he was just defending himself against the jealousy and the pack mentality of the group that left. You also have noticed that there is no bitching and fighting on this site after that group left. Yet they always try to blame it on some off season crap.                                                          And one can only read so much on the subjects of Turkeys.

I have to ask, why is this?  I enjoyed conversing with many of the members that are no more.  I personally don't have contact information for any of them.  I would enjoy being able to converse with them again at times.  That doesn't mean I would abandon ship here.  I just don't get it.  Oh and by the way, I haven't found a way to find it and I've searched...

Well if the owners would have handled it a little differently then coming here selling his wares just to get people out jump ship here and move over there it might not have been as bad. The funny part is that some of the biggest mouthpieces that said this site was so bad and should leave still come back and post here. It’s nice not to see and hear the pack mentality on this site any longer and if they cut those all off that left here for so called greener pastures it would not break my heart. It’s actually a respectable site again.

Nothing I can say can bring back what you lost Steve but I am glad you and your family are OK. Glad to see you getting back into the groove and back visiting HNY, like you I feel this site has never been better and I ain't going anywhere either.

Here is to much better times ahead for you and family Steve.

    Al

Ya know what I find funny Al?  Where is all this after season bitching and fighting between members now?  Amazes me how the ones that left didn’t realize that many of the ones that left were the problem. Well I guess we can see it now. And with like 5-6 mods for only  maybe 100 active members if that they won’t be bringing it to that site with them.

Research is lacking in the Northeast, but it’s reasonable to assume the impact is worse in areas where deep snows concentrate deer and limit their mobility, and coyotes prey on adult deer more frequently. We also know coyotes practice surplus or opportunity killing, taking down and killing prey not for food but merely because it’s easily available.

All this makes them very unpopular with deer hunters. Behavioral plasticity in their breeding behavior also makes them difficult to eradicate. Removing an alpha male may disrupt pack dynamics for a short while but a nomad will soon be along to take its place. Or a subordinate may take over the role. Furthermore, absence of an alpha male in a formerly well-defended territory could result in several males establishing several families. When coyote numbers are reduced, prey becomes relatively more abundant. This, and less intra-specific aggression results in higher productivity and thus, more coyotes.

It does until you declare all out war on the vermin. Everything I have seen starts at the dens and early summer. I hear one can all but wipe out the problem by wiping them out when young by any means needed.

    Hi everyone

I haven’t been getting on here much over the past year. Been checking in from time to time but not posting.

As most of you know from previous posts I have been a avid hunter my entire life. I especially love to bow hunt and enjoyed gun hunting, trapping, predator hunting, cross country skiing, camping, reloading, and just about anything else related to the outdoors.

That all changed on January 24th 2022 when we lost everything we owned in a house fire. In addition to losing all of our possessions and memories I lost every piece of hunting equipment, clothing, and anything hunting and fishing related I had acquired over 25 years.

2022 was the first year in my life I never hunted or even bought a license. I am not even sure hunting again will ever be in my future. It has been a long hard struggle and it isn’t getting easier as time goes on. We are just getting to the point we can think about rebuilding but if we started tomorrow it would probably be the end of the year before completion.

The forum has sure changed over the past year for the better I think. Sorry to see some leave but others I won’t miss at all. Everyone has their reason(s) for leaving but don’t quite understand how another hunting  community originating in New Jersey can maintain an emphasis on hunting in NY. Hopefully the members from here will keep it on course.

I for one plan on staying here even though it has been suggested this site will go away in the upcoming months. This has always been my go-to site and will remain so to the end. I won’t be joining the other site regardless of what happens here.

I hope to contribute and post on occasion but the majority of mine time will be spent trying to rebuild the life that we once had. Cherish all your times in the woods regardless if they are good or bad. It can be all gone in a second.

Tough to hear all this for sure. And family always comes first but if you get up North here or down near Letchworth during season and need a stand to get so quiet time I would have no problem offering you that.                                                                         As far as that other site it’s kinda a joke, it’s like the same ones that lived on this site, caused most of the problems here just moved over there to get their hands slapped by 5-6 different mods. Kinda funny that they think that site is going to get all these new members. Not going to happen. It’s nice to be able to come on here and not see the same group hanging up on people that didn’t agree with one of them. This site will most likely be here longer then that one and if not then there will be no need for another site for me.

Two years ago I tried buying 68 acres that join my property. Got into a bidding war and lost out. So there is a 65 acre piece right across the road from me. It has been leased for a long time. Wasn't a big fan of the guys leasing it. Some after hours shooting deer, alcohol on their breath at times after the hunt. I found out who the owner was and contacted him. We talked in December. I offered a nice sum to buy the property and said I would double the amount the current lease is paying. Well we talked today and he isn't ready to sell but I got the lease for 2k a year. Starts in September. Hopefully after a couple off years I can buy it. Neighbors are very happy I'm leasing it.

Sweet. Great Deal also. Priceless if there is any kind of deer on it at all now that you can manage it as a whole being close to your other land. Hopefully the guys that leased it last get the memo and accept that they no longer have the land to hunt.

The various shows that go on during the course of the year for me are basically something to do especially in what can be a long boring winter. Next up on the calendar is the big farm show at the State Fairgrounds and on to the Syracuse gun show, for me it is cheap entertainment unless I get stupid and buy something LOL!

    Al

When is the farm show Al?  In Syracuse right??  Thanks

Naw. Just here for the lulz and the t-shirt.

Trump is back on social media? I guess his platform failed. Again.

But that's great, really. Do you think there will be a red wave?

You're like the Robert Merrill of HNY. But not as well dressed I would think.

You should go by the way of your buddy Belo.

"We now have incontrovertible evidence that after five years since they took effect, the Trump tax rate cuts of 2017 raised revenues over this time period. ... The latest Congressional Budget Office report released earlier this month calculated that the federal government collected $4.9 trillion of federal revenue last year. This was up — ready for this? — almost $1.5 trillion since 2017, the year before the tax cuts became law. In other words, revenues were up 40% in five years. The evidence through the first three years of the tax cut finds that the share of taxes paid by the wealthiest 1% rose as well. So much for this being a tax giveaway for the rich. ... An obvious question is, why are we running a $1.4 trillion deficit if we have an all-time high in tax payments? Because under Biden, federal spending has exploded to more than $6 trillion. Washington doesn't have a revenue problem. It has a problem of runaway spending." —Stephen Moore

Are you really trying to speak truths and facts to idiots that support the lefts Killing of this country and it’s people.   Don’t waste your time with these fools.

Do you ever do anything hunting or outdoor related?  Or just hang around to try and support your idiots?   As you can see today Trump is already up in numbers on Biden. Just think where he will go now that he has his social media platform back. He’s Back!

If your property has what coyotes want and need to survive you will have to kill them every single time you see them to put a serious hurting on them. even in the 24/7 365 states, they are heavily populated.. when you see packs in summer or 8+ pups they are rebuilding.. I posted here a few years back of 11-13 pups in one litter on my property. Pretty wild.. throw in 2 or 3 coyote pairs that have 10 pups and a good share survive, that's 20-30 coyotes made by say 3 sets of parents..

They are really built to survive.. Fascinating creatures if you ask me. I love hunting them, but like anything else they need controlling as well.

I think many people don't hunt them too much in warm weather bc there is so much else going on people are busy and doing other things. Winter creates a lot of down time and many people "Think" they're  going to become coyote hunters, but they really just become coyote educators lol.

True that. They are easily controlled when dealt with at a young age. Den’s, summers after hay fields being cut will let the air out of the problem quick. Then you will only see say the normal amount. Sitting on 3000 acres listening to a pack in every direction yipping back and forth to each other will show a problem. They would never be legally controlled in a state with seasons on them once the problem got big. Your right on hunters. Running with dogs around here keeps them moving in the winter.

Coyote populations are sustained by the way they live. you kill them a bunch, they have bigger litters. They disperse in such a way that when pairs get broken up by killing one or both that the transient coyotes will step in and either take new role of mother or father of the pair and help raise young.. Research on coyote is really fascinating on how they are built to survive

That is only true to a point. Yes with Ny’s stupidest laws of them having a season…many states they are called the vermin that they are and killed 24/7.. a person will have a hard time being able to control a coyote problem. Most people have never seen a real coyote problem. Our 1000 acres and many of the neighbors were devoid of any kind of small game on their properties and the Turkey and deer population were going fast. When one declares war on them and does what it takes when the time is best you can rid your land of the problem and they never have a chance to come back in numbers. As with anything the young are the key. In this state you have to jump thru hoops to do it the legal way so most just don’t bother and do what they feel is best. Of course you will have those that agree and disagree but when they tie your hands and expect you to just watch something destroy what you bought and built things happen at times.
