  1.  Obviously, I know someone who  teaches archery had a shop to and won Tournaments . You know what he told me one time  He rarely hunts with a bow anymore cause even he lost deer From bad shots or the deer moving out of way or branches . He just rather wait till gun seaaon . Told me  Probably 90% of the guys that come in his shop have no business hunting  with a bow or  Aren't good enough to shoot a deer more than 10 yd away with one even with the new high tech gear . He  thinks  a lot of bad shots is  because people don't  Practicine in the same position that they are actually hunting in or from,   You hunt deer from a tree stand you should practice from a tree stand in the woods same set up . If you hunt from a blind you should practice from the blind. If you dont he said you should only take shots  from half your practice distance .

Its my first year bow hunting and I am not gonna lie, these first few sits have made me realize how tough it is gonna be.

I’ve sat 4 times and each one has only had one spot where I needed a deer to walk by perfectly in order for me to have the confidence to let it fly.

Although the degree of difficulty has gone up and my chances are now lower, I have loved it so far.

All the pre-planning, sneaking into spots I have never gone before with my rifle and getting those close interactions even if I don’t shoot bring me enough joy to give it a go.

Plus getting to say I shot a deer from 8yds is pretty badass IMO. Hopefully it happens!

  2. i had this happen once and thought it was a Bobcat, but went back the next day and there were 3 porcupines in a huge pine tree.  Then i did some looking into it and they will screech like that.   Scared the crap out of me and my brother up in the Dacks walking out in the dark.  Hey it couldve been a Squatch!  lol

Thats very interesting, never knew they sounded like that.

The sound I heard was similar to the one in this video at 25 seconds in.

I have killed good bucks both morning and evening sits. I guess I'm not old enough to be afraid of missing bedtime or being scared in the dark lol!! JK

Scariest moment of my life was walking into my stand in the dark one early morning and a bobcat screamed right next to me. Loudest, scariest sound ever and it freaked me the right out! Ended up shooting a nice 6 point that day so I will still venture out there in the dark but will never forget that scary scream!

I'm not worried. No plans in opening an escrow account. Would just drive to the nearest casino and put it all on black for 1 spin. If i lose, i quit the forum. If i win, I got $3K cash for myself

One time the military overpaid me 18k one paycheck.. as a young 19 year old who was an hour drive away from a riverboat casino in Mississippi, it took a lot of discipline and self talk not to try the same thing! Still wish I woulda just sent it lol!

  5. Are people doing morning sits this early on? I was thinking just use the "catch them going out to feed" afternoon strategy but if someone has a solid morning strategy I am all ears... the wife even wondered/suggested I go out early on Friday... I have learned to not turn down those opportunities lol.

It's no different than dropping off a 7 year old and a 30 year old in the middle of the woods and see who survives longer.

I don't know man, my 9 year old can probably live off his boogers for a couple weeks... my younger brother who is 29 isn't lasting 3 days!

  7. Just not a fan of web/fabric seats . They will fail always do.. just helped friend check his expensive ladder stands  of 3 one seat had hole chewed through it and they are 2 years  old.. hes attempting to find a replacement to buy but it will be a take down stand to replace seat at best case..  steel aluminum bar seats dont fail bring you own pad and no squirrel critter damage.

Thats true for the stands you leave up but what about those who hunt public land?

I’d be curious to see the comfort difference between these and the steel&cushion ones.

I hunt from a saddle but if I ever go the hang-on route I wouldn’t write fabric seats off without a test drive.

  8. I am reading a book called "The Guns of August", its about the buildup to WW1. It mentions a famous hunting lodge in Prussia (present day Poland) named the Rominten Hunting Lodge. Couple that with an epidode of "The Queen" where Queen Elizabeth shoots a Stag in Scotland. It seems that the Western United States and Africa get lots of press as popular hunting destinations. Have any of you ever ventured across the pond to partake in a hunting excursion? If so what how was it? Please tell if you have a good story or two.
