  1. Thanks for my season looks done. I might go back to cranberry for deer in the fall. I'll definitely try sterling a few times next spring. Black belt has been pretty helpful on some other threads I've been on. Thanks for the advice.
  2. Into cranberry three times so far and all I've heard is other hunters calling. 2 shots around 7:00 a.m. opening morning but that's it. These gobblers have to be so pressured that they are quiet as hell coming off the roost. (Or they're just not there anymore)
  3. Hey blackradio. Lmk your thoughts please. I know it's on the way to cranberry Mountain which I have hunted a few times for turkey this spring. Heard some early shots and got some responses to calls but I wasn't sure if it was other hunters or not. Not sure how stocked cranberry is with turkey. Dec website doesn't even list Turkey as a species which is weird.
  4. New to spring turkey hunting and looking to scout cranberry. Anybody have any luck with spring turkeys here?
  5. Hey I am looking to hunt turkey at bog Brook, Ninaham, or cranberry this spring. New to turkey hunting, from Suffolk. I haven't yet scouted these areas are they decent size?
  6. Hey Ray. I appreciate the information it's a big help! I will look into those and look into the permit at wonder lake. Been practicing my turkey calls and pissing my wife off so far. I will be updating my posts in May hopefully if I grab a Tom or 2.
  7. I know this is an old thread, but I'm coming from Suffolk and starting turkey as a beginner for my first season in May 2021. So far I think I've narrowed down either cranberry, wonder lake, & california hills (all Putnam) to hunt. I plan on hiking in a few miles in to get away from crowds. likely going into this blind unless I find a Saturday to go up and hike and scout out some areas in April. anybody have any suggestions about California Hill from this thread? Any advice is appreciated in advance thanks.
  8. Ludingtonville road right next to 84 in patterson I believe. Looking for something remotely close to a main road as I'm already driving 2.5 hours one way for spring morning hunting.
  9. Only about 6" here in Suffolk so far.
  10. I know this is an old thread, but I am new to Turkey hunting and plan on starting this spring. unfortunately I don't have the time to scout as I live in Suffolk county. Not looking for any specifics or looking to take anybody's spots, just want to know if Wonder lake is a decent place and big enough that a newbie can come in pre-dawn and stake out a spot. Thanks in advance.
  11. Great! Thanks to all for the words/advice. Really looking forward to turkey hunting... Will be night and day from deer. There is fall hunting down here on Long island but from what I hear it's few and far between and these turkeys don't respond to a damn thing. Looking forward to the spring season.
  12. Thanks for the advice guys. Blackbeltbill- huge rangers fan..lets see what the new season brings! fantastic details thank you so much. I have a slate, box, and 2 diaphragm calls so far...will check out a glass pot also.
  13. And btw I'm not looking to steal anyone's spot or bring anybody up with me in a pack. Just any advice would be helpful because it's really not convenient for me to drive two plus hours away from family for weekends at a time just to scout.
  14. Hi all. From Suffolk and new to turkey hunting; use my stoeger for deer way up north but want a new challenge-I plan on starting in spring '21. Wondering how good places in putnam are? Specifically wonder lake state park? Any tips/advise is appreciated ahead of time.
