Went out on Saturday afternoon and had four does walk down the trail right in front of me, one yearling, two 1.5 year old, and one 2.5 year old. She must of weighed between 120 and 140 pounds. She was the most cautious but kept moving and eating and looking up into my elevated blind. She finally got 18 yards away and put her head down to eat, I raised my bow, drew, and let my arrow fly only to be deflected by a small branch that I had looked at earlier in the day but didn't think it presented a problem but it did. Over the shoulder the arrow went to be buried four inches into a tree and off she went back up the trail. Well better luck next weekend !!

Check these out !! -
Was out finishing setting blinds last weekend and went to check trail camera's and found that someone stole the SD cards on 2 out of three camera's and left the cameras but loosten the straps so they couldn't take pictures of them as they walked away. Will be interesting to see if the person who took the cards damages or steals my blinds !! Or I will be gracious and say maybe they just wanted to see if there were any deer on the property and will return the cards and either tape them to the tree where they "borrowed" them from or put them atop my chair in my blind. My hunting buddy got bitten up with Lonestar Tick larvae two weeks ago and he is still itching. There are no chiggers this far north. Paul

Depending where you are hunting there is a butcher in Southold located at the SeaTow Corporate Headquarters complex of buildings that butchers deer. Paul

Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????

I hunt in people's backyards and over fence's that I have permission to hunt. With one neighbor who lives within three hundred feet of my blind (I don't shoot towards his house, but away from it) he has given me permission to hunt within the five hundred foot rule but I must call him ahead of time to tell him where and when I will be hunting. He also gets a quart of venison chili if I suceed on the property. -
What are you doing to prep for the 2012 Hunting Season?

Been out to the two parcels I hunt and did a little scouting. Will set up the blind this week so the deer get used to it on one parcel, no need for camera's as I usally shoot what ever walks by as long as it isn't a fawn. The landowner just wants as many deer taken as possible. Have to cut up two fallen tree's in the middle of the trail though. The other property has camera's setup, need to swap cards and as soon as I get official permission need to setup blinds so the deer get used to them. Been practicing with the new Hoyt Carbon bow with HHA sights and it is dead on at twenty and fourty yards, thirty is about three inches high. Just need a quick good frost to kill the chiggers and some ticks !!!! -
Been out East a couple of times and had more damage on the South Shore. I hunt Hampton Bays and Southold and Hampton Bays had thirty percent of the trees knocked down. A lot of chainsaw work to make deer trails accessable, but they should walk right by me now. North Fork did much better, see five times as many deer in Southold as in Hampton Bays.

Check out this deer in Quogue

Here is one from Quogue. Msbhavn

I know he is at least five years old because he was at least two when I first saw him. That would make him five this year.
