  1. This guy came up the trail to my mock scrape on Saturday at 5:00 busting brush along the way. 5 yard shot, 30 yard recovery.
  2. Hoyt. The link doesnt say anything about Saturdays. Do u know when the Saturday shoots are over for the summer?? Thanks
  3. 30 some years ago, I bought a non- resident hunting license in Maryland. The cost was whatever your resident state charged for a non resident license. Thankfully , I was in the service and didnt have to pay for NY residency!!! I thought this was an interesting method to set the price. Of course , there was a minimum in case your state was less than they wanted to charge.. Looks like they changed to $130.00 now across the board but the fishing license uses the home state pricing method. I had a blast hunting doves , geese and deer in those days in Maryland....It helped that my best friend' s father owned and operated a Farm Credit company and loaned money to farmers. We hunted anywhere at anytime for obvious reasons!! ;D
  4. Looks great and very close to what my son and I are building now. We have 3 of them in various locations now and are building 4 more for some new land. We make them 16 feet tall. How tall is that one?? We dont put railings on them for clearance in bow season. I would paint it... random spray patterns to break the outline. Only takes about 2 cans. Good job!!! You will love it!!!! the only problem is the snow..If you dont carpet it , it will be very slick. If you carpet it , it will be crunchy and very noisy. I carry a peanut butter jar with ice melter in it to sprinkle on the platform. Dont know what the ice melter is made of but I figure it would be easier to explain to the game warden than carrying a jar of salt. Hope I dont have to test it but the snow is a problem....
  5. Did they start to turn black?? I put them in my wallet and the heat from by fat #$%^% starts to turn them black. I would bet that the heat from the car had something to do with it. They are very sensitive to heat.
  6. Well my mock scrape drew the attention of a doe and a fawn. Trouble is, they havent been back since this pic was taken. The date on my camera is one day off. I made the scrape 9/5 at 3:00 and they came a little after noon on 9/6. Guess I will try more Gatorade next time . No Conesus water Fastone!!!!....
  7. Does anyone use mock scrapes to draw deer to their stand?? I did it years ago on several occasions and it works. Deer seem to visit them very quickly. I would see tracks and new pawing when returning but I cant say I ever had any daytime visits while I was in the stand. Believe it or not , I seemed to get more activity in these fake scapes by drinking lots of coffee and watering my horse in the scrape. I havent done this in awhile nor did I have a camera then . I have a camera setup close to the house now which I am getting alot of doe / fawn activity ( no bucks) So today was the day to continue this experiment, changed the camera card , made the scrape in front of the camera and let it fly. Recycled gatoraid and Pepsi have scented my scrape. (dont drink coffee anymore) I will post the results , good or bad
  8. The duck stamp runs from June to June and the hunting license runs from October to October. You need: Last year 2009 hunting license until Oct 1 New duck stamp Register with NY HIP
  9. Anybody seeing any geese south of Rochester ?? Other than Marketplace Mall, we have seen nothing. My honey hole is usually loaded with them by September 1 but nothing this year. Must be the heat. Farmer said some corn is coming down this week. This combined with cooler weather should get them going, I hope!!
  10. Since the geese havent arrive in my hunting area yet, my son and I are going to clean out some of the tree rats in a couple of our deer hunting spots tomorrow. Should be fun and hope to find some geese in our travels. Found a video on how to skin these critters. I tried this a couple years ago and it works great. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-skin-squirrel-216908/
  11. I got approved....Yeah!!! A little surprised since I was directed here by Fasteddie!!! Looks like an awesome site ....looking forward to some good conversation...
