  1. Nice pics Brandon... Doc, I dont want to hijack this thread but I notice the same thing with my cameras. I would like to know what is going on. Is there another thread that discusses this??
  2. Checked the cam today. Lot's of does. First buck on cam since season closed.
  3. Mass suicide to protest talks of legalizing crossbows and implementing AR!!! I wish it wouldnt have come to this!!!
  4. I did just that about 30 years ago Doc. It was early archery and I walked way back in before daylight expecting that there would be alot of hunters near the road , it was lightly raining and I didnt think I would be staying too long so I didnt climb the stand I put in the week before. I was standing at the bottom of my stand tree and suddenly I feel something bump my left arm. It was wet and I couldnt hear anything. A nice doe came from behind and bumped my left arm. We startled each other and the deer trotted off about 15 yards and looked back. I slowly drew and put a good shot on it. The doe ran 30 yards and stopped again where it soon fell over. This all happened in about 30 seconds. I dragged that deer up one hill, down that one, up another one and down that one. I had one more hill to go up but I just couldnt move the deer another inch. I was standing there wondering what I was going to do when I see a pickup coming down the trail. I stopped the guy and he was in there cutting some firewood. I asked if he could drive me and the deer up to my truck. He said he left the gate open and to just drive down and get the deer. What a relief!!! I never deer hunted in that spot again!!!! As you said Doc, if we had 2 trucks with us we would do just that. It worked out well as usually connect at various points and you can split up and turkey hunt all the way to the other truck. Took almost until noon to get there.... Bleitten, There are 3 pieces to this parcel, The big piece is probably where you were. North of there , there is a swamp section and the South hill section which is very steep. You can drive up there on a winding dirt road. It takes you all the way to the top. When you park at the top, you will only go down as you walk away from the truck. I wouldnt deer hunt there because of this but you can approach roosted turkeys from above and it is loaded with birds. Just park ,go thru the field to the edge of the woods and listen in the am. When you leave South hill, go back the way you came . If you go the other way, it is straight down for a couple miles. I burned up my brakes on the way down and it was a muddy and rutted road!!! Good luck and thanks for asking about Hi Tor....I had some very good hunts there and love the place. I am alot older now ,and I am sure those hills would be alot steeper now :'(
  5. I hear ya WNY, I wouldnt go anywhere near there on opening day. I did very well in Bow season and late gun season years ago. There are so many people there on opening day all the deer get pushed off to the adjacent private lands and that's it. the pressure falls off and the deer come back before the end of the season. The shooting I would hear over there on opening day is constant so they do keep the deer moving. If you into that sort of thing. I tend to stay a long ways from any crowds in gun season. I went over there in spring turkey about 3 years ago and there were deer and turkey all over the place. It is very good in turkey season as you can walk for miles on the logging roads and call as you go. I have picked up a few spring gobblers doing just that. I believe the Finger lakes trail goes thru there too. Opening day of Spring turkey is also quite crowded.
  6. I believe it is about 6000 acres. It has varying habitat and terrain . Very nice place. You will have to double check this but parts (if not all) of it are in Yates county which I believe went to allowing rifles a couple years ago. It is very close to the yates county line as I could see it from the other hill and we were in Ontario county. I believe the major road that goes thru Naples is the county line. Good luck
  7. I believe it is Hi tor you speak of. It is just outside of Naples and is big. Parts of it are steep. Gets pounded heavy on opening day but there are lots of deer and turkeys there. pressure slacks off after opening day. Hunted for years on the next hill and always heard shooting coming from the state land at Hi tor. Hunted it quite a bit 30 years ago and it was really good then. I assume it is still that way .
  8. Fastone, Are you implying that your daughters are not good cooks??? Hope they dont read this site!! ;D
  9. Last few years, I have been taking extra time when processing to pick off small pieces of meat that would normally get tossed and I throw them in little experimentation packs. On lazy winter days,I will pull them outof the freezer, grind it up and do some creative spice mixing. Some of these projects, the dog wont even eat!!! The jerky shooter is a great fantastic tool... Someday I will hit on the magic formula for world class jerky and will live happily ever after...lol Love the jerky, Good luck with the rest of your season..
  10. I wouldnt grind up deer fat with the burger. It's not the same as beef or pork. It gets nasty and adds a terrible taste to your meat IMO. Probably the taste that you had in your jerky. I trim all the deer fat off and add a little beef or pork fat to the ground. It will taste great. That is my experience anyway. Fasteddie, You cut up your own deer , do you remove all the fat?? and add beef or pork?? By the way, nice doe, glad you filled the freezer. How does everyone do it??
  11. I find it impossible to remove all the silver skin and it isnt too bad but the fat is nasty and will give any venison a nasty ,disgusting taste. I remove all fat from all the meat no matter how it is cooked becuase it gets very rancid and will feel very waxy in your mouth..... Good luck
  12. Cool video.....Great picture quality. What camera are you using??? Thanks...Good luck
  13. My son and I were out for a couple hours this morning. Very quiet....Took a ride around and nobody was out . Even the state land down the road. Just finished dinner and cant get out of the chair let alone climb the stand. Football just started, so heading to the couch for a turkey nap and will head out back in an hour or so until dark. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.
  14. Check out this site. Give you everything you need as far as weather. You can zoom in on your stand and see a graphic of where your scent will go on an aerial map. Dont know where I got this might have been here on Huntingny. I have been using it since and it is nice to have everything in one place. http://www.scoutlookweather.com

  16. Yow-sa!!! Fantastic Buck.....Congrats.....That's going to look awesome on the wall!! Did you know he was in the area?? Way to go.... I like the (other than my wife) disclaimer..She must check the site!! ;D Congrats again....Beautiful deer and pics

  18. Nice Buck!!! Last minute success....Gotta love it....
  19. Good job!!! Nice Buck!! Congrats
  20. Great family outing!!! Nice buck.....Cograts to your dad!!
  21. Fasteddie, I am still a member but I usually only hunt it for geese. We do very very well in our spot. Phelps leased most of his land to another hunt club so the acreage is down and not many members left. Doesnt really explain why the properties are so crowded in deer season. Must be alot of people are not paying. I will probably drop out soon as the farmer where I hunt geese doesnt really care if I am a member or not.
  22. Deerslayer, When that keyboard problem happens to me it is usually because I hit the "INS" button on the number keypad. Come out of num locks and and hit the INS (insert) it will toggle between insert the letter vs. writing over it. As for the arrow whisle, I have no idea what is causing it but if all else fails , you could strap it to your car and use it for a deer warning whisle!!! ;D . If it works, maybe Fastedie can put together a DIY video on the subject!! ;D ;D Good luck
  23. That's what it's all about...Hope you see him again and get a shot.. Good luck.
  24. Thanks guy's Culvercreek.....No I didnt weigh him. Tail_hnt...Yes I sat 5 yards from the mock scrape, but not on purpose. The longest shot I have from this stand is behind me(8yards) A couple weeks ago , I found a heavily used trail thru some very thick cover. My property is small(15acres) and this section is very very thick with few mature trees. On a rainy Sunday, I found a small opening that the trail went thru and placed a stand in an 8 inch oak. I was only able to get up about 9 feet to avoid cutting many branches. I made the scrape next to the trail and didnt go back until Saturday morning. When daylight came, I could see the scrape was all torn up and the overhanging tree was destoyed. I didnt see anything in the morning so I went back to the house to get some work done. I returned at 4:00 and sat until 5:00 when the deer came up the trail. He walked into the opening and started to horn the tree. I was already at full draw and touched it off. I dont know for sure if he came solely to visit the scrape and I dont care. I do know I will try it again as this is only the second time in 40 years that one of these plans actually appeared to work. Good luck and be safe..
