    Calls

I recently called in a small buck that would have otherwise walked away from me. Was interested to see how curious he was. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  2. Welcome to the forum Mike. Two track knows the area well, and his advice and locations is spot on. If you do decide to get a rifle for 3M, avoid Stewart State Forest as it's not allowed. Lots of DMP's available for 3M, none for 3P. I can't stress enough about practicing by going to the range and shoot as much as you can. Davis, Blue Mountain, and gun clubs should have ranges to satisfy your shooting needs. I went with a .243 Win to cover most NY game that is allowed by rifle. A 12GA shotgun would really cover everything. I also have a small rimfire 17HMR for small game. Would be happy to meet up at the range to do some shooting sometime. 3. The list is long, but I suppose I could start with people who post with grammar that's worst than that of a 3rd grader. It really does reflect badly on the general hunting demographic and their level of writing skills on a forum. Another thing that "grinds my gears" is the abundance of misinformation that floats around that's plain wrong. A lot of hearsay and passing along of that information as truth or fact. I have a lot of respect for those who state their personal experiences or references to facts, but not much to those who fabricate something to make themselves sound like they know what they are talking about. Hypocrites and people who project. They're kind of one and the same to me. There's always a cause and effect in life, and people that can't or won't realize this bothers me. These people generally will say one thing one day and turn around and act totally different the next, depending on what suits them any particular day. Why can't people just own up to their own actions? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  4. http://www.guns.com/2015/10/28/burglars-drop-bag-of-jewelry-after-running-into-this-woman-video/?utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_content=56313e5f04d301785f259c07&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook@ Curious if anyone knows if she did shoot, would it have reached the robbers? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  5. Hope you find him. Would be a shame if he goes to waste due to your negligence. But it's not the first time you've posted illegal activity on this forum. http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/19429-report-for-Rocky-Point-Long-Island-10-26-2013 If you can't find that buck, if I were you, I'd rip up that buck tag and call it a season. Instead, spend some time reading the regulations and practicing your shots. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  6. Anyone can tag a deer, assuming he has a tag to do it. I wouldn't think an ECO would provide a tag to someone that isn't allowing access to a hunter for retrieval. That'll defeat the purpose of DMP and regular season tags if anyone can just ask an ECO for a tag. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  7. You definitely need a tag if you intend to keep a road kill deer. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  8. Thanks for the reminder. I'll be looking to snag a 3M and maybe even a 1C. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  9. Moog, skimming through that link, it would seem it's targeted audience is more of DEC program staff than it is for ECO State Police. But back to the topic, those that ask for retrieval permission are generally honest and law abiding folks, and I would too would allow them retrieval. It's the ones that do it without asking that you should worry about. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  10. So, easy solution. Warn them that if they enter, they may be severely injured from the accidental spillage of spikes, nails, and the mudslide that caused the ditch. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  11. This is absolutely correct. DEC ECO has the same powers as State Troopers and require much less, if any, reason to search your property. If you land owners think that by saying "no" to an ECO is the end all answer, think you may be in for a surprise. Most ECO I've encountered are extremely polite and won't exercise those powers, but that's not to say they won't. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  12. Why is it a joke? If people are so serious about not having people trespass, why can't land owners push for making it a felony offense? Write some letters to their councilmen and all that jazz. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  13. Yes on all things that shock and vibrate. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  14. I'm generally seeing guys getting back 1/3 the gross live weight and 1/2 gutted weight from the processor, based on this thread. I do my own processing, and not much goes to waste. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  15. How do you know they are purposely disturbing you and your hunt? If you feel you have solid evidence of this, call the DEC. It is illegal to harass wildlife and hunters. If you hunt these areas regularly, have the proper phone numbers on speed dial to report illegal activities. Good numbers to have are DEC ECO, DEP Police, and local town police. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  16. What if the law was written in such a way that if convicted of trespassing was a felony, and as a felon, you are not allowed to own guns, would folks think twice about trespassing to retrieve a deer? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  17. That's great. [emoji106]Pretty sure your lack of grammar and "......" Isn't anything new to anyone here. But let's keep it on subject. I replied to a post and gave examples of what I was taught during hunters Ed. If your experiences differ, great. But if you decide to get your panties in a bunch over what I posted, then go take a hike. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  18. If the land owner doesn't want his land to be disturbed, he can reserve the right to say no. In this situation, the hunter has no one to blame but himself. Way too small a plot to hunt and poor shot placement put the hunters in a bad situation. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  19. Maybe, and that's ok. Couldn't really understand you anyway. Let me guess, kindle, right? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  20. Instructors taught us that when we were at hunters Ed. DEC: sir, I suspect that you have an illegally harvested deer on your property. Do you mind if I check it out? Land owner: no officer, go right ahead. DEC: sir, there's a deer that's been shot and expired here, do you have a tag for it? Land owner: no officer, I don't know how it got here. DEC: sir, unless you have a tag for this deer, we'll have to remove it from your property or I'll have to issue you a summons. Issue resolved. References: Question: If I shoot a deer and it runs onto posted property, do I have the legal right to go on the property to retrieve it? Answer: No. You should locate the landowner, explain the situation, and ask permission. If the landowner refuses, the hunter will not be able to enter the property. The DEC cannot compel a landowner to grant access. If the hunter has reason to believe that the landowner intends to illegally possess the deer, it should be reported to the nearest Environmental Conservation Officer. http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/2442.html X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  21. Unless the land owner has a tag for that deer, they cannot deny DEC retrieval. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  22. These local laws may not be the responsibility or jurisdiction of the DEC. If a specific parcel has local regs, you may need to contact that town to find out the details. Usually state forests are managed by forest rangers, and should be contacted for such questions. Your local DEC officer may know these regs and pass them on to you, but I wouldn't be surprised if they told you to ask that specific park ranger for the most up to date regs. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  23. You generally need to bump the shoulder of a case when you can no longer get the case to chamber without forcing the bolt to close. This is usually an indication of high pressures as well. To set the minimal amount of shoulder bump, you'll need to purposely expand a case where it needs to be bumped and keep bumping it and chambering it until you get it to fit at small increments. Hope this helps. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
  24. DEC is a huge organization. Know who you need to speak with and the answers are generally quick. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
