I tuck it in a little tighter to the shoulder these days, pretty much straight up the front leg.....years back I always aimed about 4 inches or so behind the front leg, once I took a closer look at a deer's anatomy I concluded I was aiming too far back.

I used Slick Tricks for a few years and swore I'd never shoot another broadhead........until last year, I tried Rage and will use them again this year. I NEVER had an issue with the Slick Tricks so have no idea what made me go with the Rage, but I was impressed with the entry AND Exit holes I the two deer I shot. I will say, my first impression upon taking a Rage out of the package was that it seemed kinda flimsy.

yes they do, I just wear bigger pac boots and for my leather boots I loosened up the laces and they broke in after a few uses.......you obviously have to remove any insole that's already in the boot as well.

If you're shooting low poundage I would take Four Seasons advice and go with the Magnus Stingers.

I got them last year and they worked well enough that I will continue to use them..........another member had posted a link for a place that was selling them for 1/2 price so I got two pair for the price of one.

just personal preference, I don't see the need to have an extra inch or two sticking out past the riser..there really is no good reason behind it other then that.

How far past the rest and or riser do most of you have your arrows cut? I just had a dozen made up and they seem to be a little longer then I had hoped, guy at the pro shop measured me for them and he came up with 30.5 inches and scaled them back to 30 for me, they still seem to have been able to have been cut shorter as they still are about an 1" past the riser. I have a full containment drop away rest and really wanted them as far back as possible.

this comes up every year, there is enough doubt about the 3 blade Rage being legal why even risk it? if you do a search you'll find more then enough info saying that they are not legal, so use them at your own risk.

Big Pond is just down the road from Little Pond, you can paddle across the lake if you want, but it's not that big.........my cousin took a nice bear by Big Pond a few years back, also Look at Alder Lake, that's right in that same area and gives you a chance to use the Kayak..but again not a super big body of water.

are you just doing a day trip? Little Pond Campsite should be open till the end of October and it's in a decent bear area, pretty sure it's area 3A.

nothing with a creek or water on State land that you can paddle away from others really comes to mind......any of the areas open for early bear have a decent population and there is plenty of public land.

I remember when they had big purple boxes hanging in the Ash Trees around our place, they were traps left to monitor for The Emerald Ash Borer....could very well be for catching some type of insect.

a lot of this shows how varied hunting ideals and opportunities range across the State.....none if it's a wrong way of thinking. I hunt the Catskills pretty much only public land and have since I was old enough to hunt, it's gotten to the point that I have the "I don't care if I get a deer this year" attitude when I hunt there, but it's beautiful country and I love being out there just for that. I used to wait for my doe tag like it was Christmas morning because I knew if I got one at least I would have the chance to get something, now I won't even shoot one during rifle season because the population is so low, I'll take one with the bow because it's hard enough as it is, and I'll go stretches without getting a deer upstate......I've taken some nice deer off of public land, but far and few between.....different story all together down on Long Island where I live, total different attitude because the population is so high.....so same person with a different attitude towards hunting just based on location alone.......so, you really can't judge a persons attitude without fully knowing everything about them, whether it's location, why they kill a particular deer, or how they've progressed as a hunter throughout the years.

hell, I go out very year and have fun and enjoy it knowing full well I'm more then likely just going to be killing a doe or smaller buck...so I can't see the fun going out of it for guys who consistently kill big bucks. Basically I've been killing the same caliber deer for 30+ years and the fun and excitement has never left, it's only lately that I've started passing up some smaller bucks and does, and that's only because we eat less venison these days.

cleaning out the basement today I found these two bricks of .22 ammo........more shocking was the price tag.

roll em up in a carpet...oh wait, I was thinking of something else.....years back it was the law that the deer had to be transported exposed on the outside of a vehicle if I remember correctly, since that changed less and less people do it.

I try to avoid planning hunting trips during a full moon......I have one of those "best time" to hunt and fish programs on my gps, and while I don't plan my hunting around it, I do find that it tends to be fairly accurate.
