    Troutfishing

They were hitting good for me a few weeks ago, including about an 18" brown and a 15" bow. Havent hooked up with anything since then.

    Troutfishing

Acme kastmasters also work good for me, regardless of temps. Generally use 1/8 oz. The blue/silver and rainbow trout colors have seemed to be the best. I see you're from dutchess, are you fishing the wappingers creek? Brian
  3. Yes, I have a few - Why ask the questions you asked, and why have them so open ended? In a scientific study, don't you want to get the most accuracte and description answers possible? You're questions are very, very broad, and seem to be more towards getting hunters to say they have broke laws, and so much whether they agree or disagree with certain laws... If you want specific answers, you have to have specific questions.
  4. I gotta agree, seems a little out there, to say the least. Please, post what the survey is all about, as well as your "project"...
  5. What excactly is your project? I'm sure everyone else would like to know as well. I did answer the survey, as well. Brian
  6. Why no rimfire for coyotes Doc? My .17 rimfire is one of the most accurate guns I've ever shot, and it's more than enough to take down a fox or coyote. Brian .
  7. To me, most of the laws are there to actually keep it fair. We already have scopes, high powered guns, scent control products, manufactured tree stands and ground blinds, etc. We call it "hunting" for a reason. It wouldnt be any fun, nor would it be fair to the animals, if we were aloud to sit in a tree at midnight, over a bait pile, with a spot light, and a pocket full of buck tags. The laws also help ensure that these animals can thrive for years and years to come. If everyone goes out and shoots every deer they see one year, imagine what the next year would be like. Whether we like all the laws or not, they are (mostly) there for a good reason, and we need to (and should) follow them regardless. Just my two cents, feel free to disagree.. Brian
  8. As per the DEC website- " Possession of Firearms During the open season for deer, it is illegal to: possess shotgun shells loaded with slug or ball, unless holding a valid license or permit to take deer or bear, or possess a rifle larger than a .22 rimfire (muzzleloading rifles excepted) in areas where rifles are banned for taking deer So, during deer season, nothing bigger than a .22 rimfire. Then, under the "furbear hunting" section- " You may hunt furbearers with a rifle chambered in any cartridge, except that during any open season for deer - including archery, muzzleloading and regular seasons - you may not possess a centerfire rifle afield, during the day or night, to hunt wildlife, including furbearers in any county or portion of a county where deer hunting with rifles is prohibited during the regular deer season." So, when its not deer season, you can use whatever you so desire. Brian
  9. If you look at both closely side by side, they look very, very different.
  10. Nowhere in what you posted does it say "shot only". What you posted is simply stating that you can use shotguns to hunt furbearers at night with any shot size... That dosent say "shot only", "no slugs", or anything to that affect...
  11. Nice! Hope you're getting him mounted? Congrats!
  12. Same thing goes for trapping, but thats only because the land owner where I trap dosent like me to set any until after the season.
  13. Yep, I hunt small game, but during deer season, small game takes the back seat.
  14. 15 yards? You kiddin', last year I shot a big 6 pointer ( my first deer ever), at less than half that! lol. Same stand for both deer. Its a homemade wooden stand. Had to stand up and shoot offhand for both shots. I just move slowly and as quiet as possible. Although this years doe was probebly closer to 20 yards.
  15. How long are you sitting before getting up and moving?
  16. What cut do you usually use? And do you need to flip them in the oven, or just let set for 4-10? Thanks!
  17. Just want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Guns&ReligionCop for the 3G tag he sent me. I offered to trade something, but he just sent me the tag. Thanks again man! Brian
  18. If you give up on whole pieces of stand land after 1 day of not seeing anything, I'm not sure you'll ever get a deer. Not being rude, its just the truth. You really need to put alot of time and effort into it. You're not going to see a buck every time you go hunting. Plus, what would be the fun in that? I'm sure there's bucks on the property, you just need to find them. They're not going to find you. Dont give up, just put some work in. Next year, do as much pre season scouting as possible. By no means am I saying you should hunt the same piece of land every day, but dont assume is has crap hunting because you didnt see a wall hanger on your first day hunting there. If you put the time and effort in, and have the right mind set, you'll get a nice one adventually! Good luck! Brian
  19. Heard lots of shots in the cold spring area today. Was out on 2 different properties all day. Didnt see a thing until 4:30pm. Shot a medium sized doe at 15 yards with the shotgun. Brian
  20. I dont have any specific tips for ya, but, scouting is what its all about. You cant just walk in opening day, pick a tree, and say "oh, well this looks good", and plan on getting/seeing anything. You may get lucky, but chances are you wont. If possible, put up some trail cameras, look for scrapes/rubs, deer runs, etc, etc. Find out where the deer are feeding and bedding, and the various paths they travel each day. Have a plan ahead of time. Know excactly what tree you'll be sitting at. Make sure to play the wind as well, especially beause you'll be on the ground. Every chance you get between now and opening day, I would be walking that property, looking for sign. You've already lost the hole summer/early fall, so, dont let anymore opertunities get lost. Deer hunting is just as much about the preseason/season scouting, than it is about the hunt itself. That being said, good luck, have fun, and be safe. Brian
  21. Yep, he's right. This page from the DEC site breaks down each tag and when you can use it, and what for. It is also in the regs book each year. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8305.html just have to scroll down a little bit on the page.
  22. Haha, saw that the other day on Larry the Cable guys facebook page.
