  1. yea vince mine just came in the mail I am going to send it out on Friday. I think you have until 4:00pm sept 19th to get in opening day rifle! Let me know if anyone wants to team up at Sterling we have gotten to know the land very well! Got my first buck there last year! Tasty lil bugger too!
  2. no seriously though how do you hunt a bear? I think it really comes down to just getting extremely lucky as far as hunting on public lands. I hear of guys getting em all the time however even sterling had an incident where someone was baiting a bear. Shot it and dragged it onto state land claiming he took it on sterling property. If anyone has any good bear hunting tips lets hear em!
  3. perhaps I should try yodeling!
  4. that's gotta be hard to get a bear with a bow. Can you use screech calls or anything? I know you cant bait but how exactly do you go about hunting a bear!? Anyone feel free to pm me with some helpful tips. Thanks again!
  5. yea they have drop off locations and everyone I have come across including the park rangers were all really cool. Even the dudes collecting jaw samples at the weigh in station were local good ole boys. Helped me out with my kill last year and I advise you guys to leave em a tip next time!
  6. I heard that Sterling isn't taking part in the early bear hunting season is this true?
  7. thanks again guys! I have heard that when dragging a bear out they get caught up on just about everything you drag em through! They usually have drop off points at most state parks however if you are on private land hope you ate you Wheaties because your gonna need em! Food for thought when thinking about a personal training regimen before hunting season. Don't forget to do some hiking months prior to the hunt! Turn a scout into an all out predatory workout!
  8. haha ABSOLUTELY TRUE! Its amazing how the mind can play tricks on you! The heavy brush surrounding the trail you decided to take somehow turns into the perfect bear ambush! Its hard not to turn shadows into drooling blood thirsty beasts lol I love getting into the woods while its still pitch black out just to get situated before daylight starts creeping through the canopy. Its amazing how light can change the forest as the day goes on. While I love my rabid imagination the sight of bear scat is a reminder to respect this wonderful animal in its natural habitat. I have posted tree stands above massive piles of bear scat in Sterling with absolutely no sight of bear all day. They are extremely elusive to encounter in their natural habitat. And I cant even imagine what bagging a massive black bear with a bow would feel like. I am extremely exited to respectively hunt this wonderful animal in the fine state of NY.
  9. hahaa lol I know I have been checking all my gear getting ready to go! Making a few adjustments to the bow and sharpening the broad heads! With bear season opening up it gives a good chance to get out there and get to know a new hunting ground. Nothing wrong with changing up the game from time to time! Scouting might just turn into a bear stalk! GET SOME!!!!
  10. MMEEEOOOOWWWW lol its those pesky big footed bob catted couger faced kangaroo squerrels hoppin around causing all kinds a trouble! I don't know what every ones talking about but we got tons of cougars on long island. IVE SEEN EM! Prayin on innocent young men! Stalking the bars and nightclubs like an innocent house cat when BAM! Next thing you know you wake up to the smell of cat breath only to realize its a 55 year old divorcee named KITTY KAT! lol mrrrreeeooowwww! Whats the matter boys CAT GOTCHA TOUNGE!!! You bet ur ass it did!
  11. anyone know if you can use rifle in southern zone for the early bear season!? and how do I go about getting some dmp tags? are they available for bears now? I remember the feeling of bowhunting at Sterling State and coming across some piles of bear scat that made my palms sweat! Kinda spooky when your not in a tree stand and there is still heavy brush and limited visibility. Never know when ole yoggie is gonna come out and take a nibble outta my ass. Sure hope that buck fever doesn't turn into "that's a big bear and oops I just crapped my cammies"! I know black bear attacks are very rare however its times like that that I wish my trusty 30-06 full of 220 grain yoggie blasters wasn't sittin home on the rack! But on a serious note I cant imagine the rush of sticking one with my bow! Gotta be some rush watching one walk through the woods let alone within range of my tree stand!
  12. nice must feel good to be back in a tree stand. I gotta break mine out and get some climbing in!
  13. damn I was hoping to hunt sterling for the early season. PM me if you know of any other places I can hunt with a rifle in September for bear. Or is it bow only for the new early bear season!?
  14. in the southern zone aka Sterling
  15. so does that mean you can use a rifle for early bear season or do you still have to use a bow?
  16. Can I get an AMEN! AAAAMEEEEEN BROTHA HAHAAAA GET EM LEAKIN!!!!
  17. nice man I wish I had property to hunt on! I have been scouting out some new areas to hunt upstate. Possibly may be buying some land as well. I cant wait temps have been cooling off early this year so it should be a good bow season!! Cool mornings equals movement and possibly an earlier rut..hopefully!
  18. 1971 aluminum starcraft and trailer with 50hp motor. Great for the upcoming duck hunting season. Light boat in pretty good shape. Got some weak spots in the trailer and could use some new rollers. Minor dents on propeller. 50 2 stroke runs great with a new starter recently installed. Minor rot by the cooler on the back raised floor panels. Center console the boat doesn't leak a drop. Had a ton of fun fishing with it last year but I cant even afford to put it in the water with the baby coming! Have to sell it asking $3000 for everything including gas tanks. If interested feel free to call me for a showing at 516 356 4136
  19. yea some places are different. Stuart was single car parking and you had to hunt in the direction of your designated parking spot. However sterling has parking areas with trail access in different locations of the park. While other places you can park on the side of the highway. Check with the dec if you have any questions about a specific spot that way your not worrying about it when it comes time to get in the woods!
  20. I agree with elmo! There is no harm in picking up the phone and calling the dec. They are usually more then willing to help out! If you have any questions POST POST POST! Open mouths get fed! Don't let the arrest stop you from trying. Hunting is a healthy pure and progressive sport in nature. You will find the more hunting and time spent in the woods. The more you begin to learn about yourself as a person! How you work, handle defeat, physical limits, as well as under extreme pressure when it comes time to make the shot! Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
  21. A reminder to start getting in shape!
