  1. Hey just letting all the new guys out there know about a little secret that can save them a ton of trouble. I didn't find out about it for a while and I would come out of the woods covered in ticks. PERMETHRIN!!!!!!!! For the seasoned vets you know exactly what I am talking about. This stuff blows deet out of the water! YOU HAVE TO USE IT! If you are going to be getting into the woods this season make sure you pick up a bottle of permethrin. Spray your clothes down wearing rubber gloves and a face mask as you do not want to have direct contact on your skin. Do not apply it inside and make sure you are not downwind of the spray. Spray the collars, waist band, and inside of sleeves heavily and hang it until it dries. Apply a heavy coating to the rest of the fabric. Do not wear the clothes if they are still wet! The diseases associated with ticks are no joke. This stuff will do the trick if you apply it once a month you are good to go. It takes up to 6 washes before having to reapply it! So do yourself a favor and use it you will thank me the next time you walk out of an all day hunt in the woods without a single tick or chigger to be found.
  2. GOTTA GET PERMETHRIN!!!!!!!!!! I went from coming out of the woods loaded with ticks to not finding a single one anywhere! I sleep on the ground mid day in the woods and still had no ticks! Permethrin is amazing! spray it on everything and let it dry and it will blow your mind! L diseas is no joke!
  3. anyone else notice the rut is late?
  4. Hey guys I am interested in buying the CVA Optima V2 with scope package that cabellas is offering. Any thoughts or opinions? I am looking to extent my season and I am obsessed with hunting I go after work and all weekend every week. I cant wait to see what its like to take a deer with a smokepole. Any pointers or thoughts on this model? Thanks so much guys
  5. oh man I wish I had a hunting camp that sounds like so much fun!
  6. interesting I just got back and just missed a shot on a nice sized doe. I am having a hard time hauling my tree stand in I may stick to stalk hunting there after work. You are def right about more movement at night time. This was the first time I have seen anything and the first time I hunted the night. Getting out is a pain in the rear however I made it work. I def have to try Otis pike try and find a good spot to go in if you can I would appreciate it. As far as I know the southern side of Otis pike does not require a check in station for the season after November. Thanks for the reply guys I really appreciate it.
  7. yea I have been doing all day sits and haven't seen many deer on the move. Temps should be good this weekend. I think hunting solid food sources is probably your best bet. Bedding areas are a maybe due to the temps being so high you may not see much movement. Well see what happens I am doing a pm hunt after work tonight. Good luck out there!
  8. Hey guys looking to hear some feedback on rocky point. I have been hunting there for weeks with few sign of deer and no sightings! Has anyone had any luck or know some of the better parking spots? Thanks!
  9. I agree deer will usually come within 50 feet and stop when it comes to rattling. They wont go head first into a fight unless they check it out first. Most of the time they will see you before you see them so pay attention. So far the rut is nowhere to be found. Minor scrapes and rubs. Even trails seem meek at best. Weather is getting colder I am going to but the ole rattlers down until later in the season when the hormones kick in!
  10. yea its wild I hunt both days every weekend and anywhere in between I can sneak it in. But for some reason there just don't seem to be the deer populations around the hunting areas that there used to be. They seem to be overpopulating everywhere else however they don't seem to show up anywhere you can legally kill them.
  11. yea I even heard reports of deer not being sighted at the old cemetery over by eatons neck. Another herd is living behind the stop n shop in northport! That's practically east northport! I don't understand why bow hunters aren't allowed to take some of them out until people start dying in car accidents!? Its bull sh** All the pita tree huggers don't understand that the majority of these animals move at night and when some soccer mom hits one and dies in a car accident killing her children along with it I am sure your right they will THEN allow some responsible hunters to begin taking deer. I am not saying that seeing deer in these areas are a bad thing. However when there is no natural predator to monitor the population they will grow out of control like any animal and become a pest. Or they will do what they did upstate and just start releasing coyote's everywhere! SWEEEET!!!!!
  12. Hey guys I have heard that it is legal to hunt at caumsett state park is this correct? If so how can I go about doing so? Thanks
  13. if I kill a bear tomorrow I plan on skinning it and wearing its flesh while I run down the highway screaming bloody murder! However that's a really good point dragging a deer out would be rough. Apparently now I hear its also a youth hunt....bear suit might not be a great idea....
  14. yea I haven't had much luck rattling yet.. I will have to give it a try before the sun comes up
  15. Yea the high temps have messed everything up so far. Everyone's saying its going to explode once the temps drop some more.. Cant wait for that to happen I haven't seen jack moving around yet
  16. yea that what I heard. We are only going about a mile in but brotha ommmgg! That 20lb tree stand plus back pack weighs a friggin ton! I am beat to hell and I barely even went too deep today at rocky point. However if we finally get one! Oh man I don't care how hard of a workout it would be to get it out I will be freakin singing the whole way back lolol . No deer at rocky point......aggaaain better luck next time. Tomorrow should be a blast call me when you get a min
  17. yea I hunted rocky point this morning still no damn deer! I wish it would get colder out they just don't seem to be moving like they were last year. You see anything at rocky point? I was at 11 today. I also used permathin today and no ticks what so ever that I have seen so far. I think they go through the clothes themselves if they sense heat and moisture. Last time I had like 12 of em
  18. lol yea they are bad on long island. I was at rocky point and came out with a ton of em...nasty little things
  19. Hey guys I would love to get another chance to hunt goose on the island. Anyone know where I can go on the western part of long island to hunt some geese? Thanks a lot guys! Preferably on shore!
  20. so easy to get lost in those woods though its crazy
  21. gotcha. I know that bedding area they were at. They have to be making there way back there every night. The temps have moved down so I figure if we could stealth our way up behind the mountains they ran up when I spooked em. Then we might have a good chance of calling them up for a shot. If this were rifle season this would be easy however I think its our best bet for a stalk hunt. Let me know what you think.
  22. good point early! Finally some rain! Hopefully it will drop the number of chiggarinos in the area
