Woodchuck Head Shot In NJ Over The Weekend!
Tail_Hnt replied to TheFieldArcher's topic in General Hunting
Once again Field Archer: Dude, cool it with the theatrics. Ultimate Warrior type face painting? Keep your vids. for the NJ crowd. Post it on newjerseyhunter.com instead of here. That forum is full of numbskulls who will post 5 seperate things on a fart they just blew. Also, did you shoot it over bait as well, just like all your deer? -

Wow, you're lame! Called out for what? Don't you think I know (and everybody else who read my post knows) what I did and said? Like you exposed my big secret of being insulting that I was so trying to keep hidden. Really? You're way out of your league here junior. At least 3 steps behind me. Time to shut it down, son. -

Of course I was putting it down! Was also putting it down in my sarcastic reply, which you obviously didn't pick up on. No back-peddle here. No doubt I was putting it down! Why did you hijack this post anyway? It was supposed to be about a guy who made a lame video of himself and expected tons of praise and accolades. -

Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Sorry for insulting your girlfriend there. You thought the face paint was clever and intimidating? Hey, just asking about the baiting. Did I say anything negative about it? I realize that there are plenty of "hunters" out there that like the deer to walk in 30 minutes, on the dot, after they get into their stand so they can pick one out and shoot it. I also realize that they don't know how to actually find the deer, which of course, isn't their fault. Did I put it down? -

Just Finished My 2010/2011 Season Highlight Video!
Tail_Hnt replied to TheFieldArcher's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Lazy bait hunter who doesn't want to put the work in to actually find the deer. I know the kind. Just wants to go out to the stand and know the deer will be in 30 minutes later, and exactly where they will be. Then shoot a big buck over it and show it off to everyone as a trophy. Not quite boss. -
Very nice. Thanks for the pics! That doe is a pig! That has to be the longest tail I have ever seen. I shot a doe during archery a few years back and she was one of the biggest bodied deer I have ever taken up there. Out weighed almost all of the bucks I have ever taken up there.

Very nice deer and mount TailHnt... Thanks alot man. Yours is a hog! That is the thing I like about the deer up in 4F. There are some huge bodied deer (well, huge compared to what I see at home). My 10 point was taken during the rut in 2009. A bleat and tending grunt brought him in on a flat out run, looking for a fight. Got an arrow instead. Worcester can grow them big every once in a while! What is the biggest you have ever seen or heard of come out of there? Yeah I like the fact that a mature buck in my area will be very big bodied. I have personally witnessed a 2 1/2 year old buck that my cousin shot which was every bit heavier then that 4 1/2 year old I shot. I have pictures of some nice bruisers on my trail cam and I actually witnessed a monster on rt. 23 near harpersfield about ten years back that was tending 3 does about 75 yards from the road with not a care in the world. About 6 years ago my nieghbor had told me that his cousin shot a huge 17 pointer near Oneonta, a couple years later I actually met this guy and he whips out a picture of this deer from his wallet like it was a picture of his kid and let me tell you that deer had a huge rack...thats the biggest I've seen. Haha...Yeah, I know a few that carry around pictures of their big deer. Got to wonder about them...... There was a nice 17 pointer taken near Binghamton this past year. If you are up for sharing sometime I would love to see any trail camera pics you have of the bucks in Worcester. I guess I am obsessed with Worcester deer.

Thanks! Found a new taxidermist and am very pleased with his work. He also doesn't take over a year to get a mount back, like my old one!

Like everywhere else. Some big ones, lots of small ones. Here is a big one I took in bow. Good luck!

Handgun for hunting in NY - Legal to bring into NY?
Tail_Hnt replied to Tail_Hnt's topic in General Hunting
Oh well....*sigh* No LEGAL way to do it. I guess I will forget it. -
I know the low about not being able to bring a handgun into NY from out of state if, unless you are on your way to an NRA event. How about if you want to hunt with handgun during the deer season? Is it legal to transport it into the state then? Stupid f-ing laws!

Yeah, this article is a doozy. Just spray the crops with cayanne. Sure, because every farmer in that village has the money and contacts to buy large quantities of that, then the ability to broadcast it. Just plant what elephants don't like. Sure because I am sure shit-weed tastes good to humans, just not elephants. Two or three bullets is much easier, cheaper, and more effective. Showing the zombies ripping the flesh off it was a bit in bad taste though.

Coming up this weekend to prune some apple trees and wonder how deep the snow on the mountian in East Worcester is? Is it worth it to make the trip? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

The wild pigs usually hang out in the bars in the Cortland area. Its a good place to hunt for them, if you really want one. They are especially easy pickin's in the summer. Just tell them you are from out of town and they will go home with you. Good luck!

Thanks fellas! I have already starting devoting myself to practicing and will shoot all year until the trip. There is no way I am going into this unprepared. I do enough shooting to hunt the whitetail season with success, but know this is a whole 'nuther ball of wax! Any other opinions are welcome!

I shoot a Hoyt Protec XT2000 that I purchased new in 2005 and was wondering how long the strings should last. I probably do not have more than a thousand shots on it total (not much time to devote to shooting ) I am going on an archery hunt for elk in Montana in September and wanted to know if I should get the strings changed out. They still seem like they are in great shape and are not frayed and kept waxed. Do strings deteriorate over time? I would hate to be drawing back on a nice bull and have my bow blow up in my face, as that would be the exact time my string decides it has had enough. Thanks!

As you can tell from my subject line I am going on an archery elk hunt in Montana in the fall and am looking for a good backpack to get for it. Does anyone have any opinions on packs? The hunt is going to be alot of call and stalk so It has to be good in that situation. Would also like it to hold the bow for the steep stuff, of which, there will be plenty. Thanks in advance!

I agree with it not being a good year in terms of deer seen and rut activity, but that is how it goes. Large bodied deer, with average racks, but every now and then a whopper comes through. I hunt that area of Otsego. What town the property in?
-
We have found that the deer are around all the time until the weather turns really bad, then they seem to leave for the winter to go down to more food. I do not see the deer leaving every morning to walk down a mountain, just to walk back up at night. I guess it depends on how far from you the food is. In our case, that would be at least a 5 mile walk. If you put in some decent plots they will be around, but like I said, they will hammer the hell out of them if there is nothing else around.
-
I feel your pain....I am up a mountian too. All the corn is down near town. Nothing at all up by me.
-
We have the same issue with the neighbors shooting anything brown around our property in East Worcester as well. We let the small guys walk, and with some small food plots in, hope they get bigger. The nieghbors may benefit, but so will you hopefully. The hardest part of the food plots is the initial breaking ground and planting. After that, its just maintaining it with lime and fertilizer. I found the Whitetail Insitute Extreme grows well in the area. Depending on where it is in relation to other food for the deer and how big your plot is, the deer will eat it up fast so I put in a bunch of small ones all over our property.

Not far from you at all, I hunt in Harpersfield and also in East Worcester. How was the East Worcester season? Hear of any nice deer shot there?
-
I have been hunting in 4F for the past 10 years and I have never experienced such a lousy season. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time during the season but as far as deer go, it was total crap. Only saw a handful in bow and a few small does in rifle. The rut was real slow this year and never really seemed to happen. I saw some chasing but it was very sporadic. Could never get a read on what was going on, and when. Always next year.
