Forgot to add.........I would llike a guided hunt. Probably a 2:1 since going with a buddy.

I am planning and Elk / Deer combo hunt for 2011 and am wondering if anybody had any good experiences with any outfitters. I am leaning towards archery in Montana during the elk rut in September and have been looking online at outfitters, but I would like to go with a reputable guide considering the price. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Nice deer. What town in 4F you near?

Had a horrible time hunting season in 4F, bow and rifle. Did you have a bad bow as well? The rut never really seemed to have happened at all.

Anyone hear anything about the weather in 4 for Sat? I heard windy, but I also hear perfect. Anyone?

FINALLY! 4F was hot this past weekend. Still not alot of scrapes and rubs. It seems like the bucks just decided not to do them this year but they were running the does super hard all over the woods. Saw 7 bucks in 2 days, all had their noses up a does rump.

You sat 5 yards from your mock scrape?

Heading back up to 4F this Thursday through Sunday. Hope things have picked up there!

My Extreme food plots were great all summer but the deer have abandoned them. Any tips on what to plant next year that will bring them in after the Extreme plots stop drawing a crowd? I want to put 2 or 3 small plots on 200 acres of land. Have thought about Tall Tine Tubers. Anyone have any experience with them?

Used one in Northern Manitoba two years ago. Sat out in -20 degree weather for 11 hours each day with no problem at all. Everything (including toes) stayed toasty warm. It is rather bulky when worn so you have to be hidden pretty well to not be noticeable with it on, but totally worth the money if you have a problem staying warm, or just don't like to wear alot of clothes when hunting. Even if the temperature is around 20, you can probably get away with a pair or two of long underwear and your camo gear, it works that well. If you are in a treestand with it on, you should wear a safety belt no doubt. Can't imagine falling 20 feet to the ground, basically in a sleeping bag, without use of your arms (Not that your arms would help much)

Hunted 4F the past few days and nothing at all. A couple of tiny, half-hearted scrapes that looks like were made and never visited again was all the sign seen. Shouldn't there be some good buck sign by now around? Not many deer seen either.

I have found that the can works either long or short bleat. During bow last year I was grunting back and forth with this guy for 10 minutes before I pulled out the can and blew a tending grunt, followed by 2 "long" bleats. He was hung up in cover, not willing to step out in the open, until he heard that bleat. He came charging in ears back, head down and looking to wreck the buck that was stealing one of his hot does. Also used the "long" bleat to call in a 5 and 7 pointer during rifle.

3 days of hunting saw about 20 does but not a single buck. Kinda weird for the place I hunt. Never have seen that many deer and usually see around a 50-50 mix of does and bucks. Hopefully it will be good when the rut finally kicks in in 4F. No rutting ativity yet at all!

Was in 4F for 3 days and only saw 2 weak scrapes and a few rubs.......Pretty crazy how nothing has shown up yet.

Any pre-rut activity yet? Will be heading up this weekend to the cabin in 4F for 4 days of bow. Any kind of pre rut activity going on? Any does getting hounded? Anyone calling with success? Any word would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone get anything yet in 4?

Nice buck, for sure. However, maybe its due to antler restrictions, but maybe the buck is just smart and keeps out of sight. Not a big fan anyway as I know a handful of young hunters who want nothing more than to shoot a buck but can't because they are not allowed to take the fork-horn they see due to antler restrictions. Or how about the old-timer, who will not make another hunting season. Should he not be allowed to enjoy the thrill of the kill one last time because he can't shoot that 6 pointer? Seems to take away from why hunting is so special for most of us in the first place. To be out there and exeprience the thrill of taking the animal you want, not the one the law mandates you take. I'm all for big deer, but they are always there. Maybe not as many, but they are there, antler restrictions or not. You just have to work harder for them. Doesn't that make it more special than just having an easy time of it? I dunno.........
