  1. So who will be out this weekend in the Northern Zone? I will be out Saturday on the Tug Hill Plateau, not so much expecting to take a deer but I look forward to getting my stuff out, working out the kinks and sitting in my climber...
  2. 2013 continued...we finished last season I took 2 nice does with my bow, passes on several small bucks, my buddy Josh shot his first bow buck, my buddy Pat shot an 8 point with his bow and a nice 7 point with rifle, I finished the gun season with a DMP permit filled and the second to last say I took a 5 point with my gun...lots of venison...Ready for 2014!!!
  3. Quick recap of 2013 to prepare for this season!!!
  4. Single digit days until the opener...Cannot wait!
  5. I use to hunt not far from Conn Hill on Bull Hill...there are plenty of spots to hunt and some really good bucks. Only thing I can recommend is do your homework, find a good starting point from scouting and then expand your range by learning the area...look for tracts of county land, they usually aren't marked as well but usually are really good smaller tracts of land to set up and hunt...good luck
  6. I have been bowhunting since 1991, last year I bought my 4th bow. I owned two golden eagles, I bought a Bowtech Patriot in 2002 and last year I upgraded to a Bowtech Assassin. I only buy new when I ready for something new, and one thing is for sure I am ready to get out there this year!!!!
  7. I haven't had the recurve itch yet, it looks like it would add a much greater challenge. Maybe someday...
  8. I guess I like the extra challenge, I felt like I was getting pretty good at bowhunting with a good amount of success, I like adding the extra twist to it...like MrGroundhog said, I love reflecting back to the hunting video that I took each year...gun season I don't even bother...
  9. I hear you there...I really only lug a small gorilla camera arm and a small Sony handicam...and if I am using the same tree I leave the camera arm in the tree. I like to film the other deer I pass on or that are out of range....as well as any other wildlife I see while I am out there...the peace and quiet is very nice though...
  10. Yep, it would great to just see him, lots of pictures of him, we just need to be out there when he makes a mistake...

    To Warm

Cold or warm, I am ready!!!
  12. I have been filming my bow hunts. I have been able to get two archery kills on video, one in 2012 and one in 2013. I messed up filming my biggest Bow buck. The camera was bumped and zoomed in too much...I look forward to getting some good video this season...anyone else experiment with this?
  13. Well I haven't been on here in a while. Bow season is right around the corner, I have some great trail cam pics as well as a buck I never thought would live this long. This is the third year I have gotten him on camera. I really hope to seal the deal on this buck.
  14. Count me in...25 days 13 hours 48 minutes 10 seconds until bow season!!!
  15. So one of the best things that can make a season great is to be part of someones first deer...Our great friend Josh decided a couple years ago he would hunt with us and came out a couple times with his old 30/30, over the next summer he decided he wanted to get into bowhunting, so he set up an old bow and he needed a special sight because he cannot see well out of his right eye, he has a sight where he shoots right handed with his left eye...practiced up and hunted a few times last year with us...this past summer he wanted to get more serious, he joined our club, he bought a four wheeler and got a couple treestands...he has been hunting with us every weekend. He has passed on a few deer already because he didn't want to shoot a fawn or he didn't want to take a bad shot...this morning he had three bucks come through, and he took the first deer of his life...and it was with his bow...nice six point with a perfect lung shot...the deer went about 60 yards and died right on the four wheeler trail...regardless of how the rest of the season goes, being part of someones first deer has already made it great! I also think the seed has now been planted with his little son Tanner, he was proud of his Dad!
  16. Well broke the Ice yesterday afternoon for 2013 and the new Bow... Crazy Crazy hunt tonight...got off work a little early to hit my stand...brought my four wheeler tonight because my stand is quite a ways back in and mostly uphill and yesterday I was a sweaty mess by the time I got set up. First hurdle...about halfway to my stand in a wet spot that has been getting worse I buried the wheeler, after trying to get it out for a few minutes my awesome plan had completely backfired, now me and my bow was covered in mud and I was a sweaty mess...so I hiked the rest of the way in. Decided after yesterdays hunt to move my stand about 30 yards to a different tree, as I finally climbed up to get the stuff I left in the tree out and climbed back down and moved to the new tree. The tree was set back against some hemlocks for great cover, however, it had a string of poison ivy running up it...I used a stick to pull that off the tree and began climbing...up about 10 feet and I needed to break one of the hemlock branches...bending it with some good force it finally snapped, I took a deep breath as it snapped as a couple brown hemlock needles when right down my throat...there I was gasping for air and hacking and retching in the woods...I couldn't take a deep breath, sounds funny now but it was pretty scary...what a freak thing to happen...I finally climbed down and spend 20-30 minutes trying to clear my airway and coughing and dry heaving...WTH!!! Finally cleared it for the most part and collected myself, I really was debating whether to hunt of not, I decided to move to another tree about 50 more yards where I saw a deer the night before, no branches to break...finally after about an hour and 1/2 after leaving my truck I was set...about an hour later a pair a grey fox came through and I got some really cool video...then at 6PM a big lone doe worked her way to me...I had the camera rolling and went to full draw as she turned right towards me...it was now or never at that point, her chest looked big through my sight window and I knew I could make that shot, even though I haven't shot a deer with a bow straight on before...I let it fly and red sprayed everywhere...I waited until dark to climb down and there was good blood...about 10 yards past where I lost sight of her she was done...first deer of the year and a crazy hunt that turned out good...two pics and a video of the hunt... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZs4afWAEbE&feature=youtu.be
  17. Been spending every off minute getting the camp ready...slept in it last night for the first time, finished the lights, bunks and windows, have the woodstove about 60% done...ready for the first Saturday of Bow Season...
  18. It may have been there were so many...there were some awesome NT's there...
  19. It was a great time, second time I have had the honor to go...my friend that invited me had the #1 buck last year in NY State, #1 in all 9 Northeastern states, #3 all time typical buck in NY, very cool to know that deer was harvested on the bordering property where I hunt...it is awesome to see all the monsters taken around our state...gets the blood flowing a little more as Bow season approaches.
  20. Well the new camp is finally in place, now just some finishing touches over the next couple weeks but it is pretty exciting to have a camp to call my own...There was nothing easy about getting it in place but after about 4 hours of pushing, pulling, winching and maneuvering she is setting in place, now to add some bunks, a woodstove, a sink, a table a couple windows and some lights we will be in business...
  21. Beauty of a deer, symmetrical and mass...I would guess 120-130 as well...Super 8!!!
  22. Most likely a nice 1 1/2 year old buck...as far as shooting him, what ever you feel good about at the end of the day...every hunter has their own rules and opinions...if you are happy with him, put him in the freezer, Good Luck!
