I dedicate every opening day southerntier to hunt with my wife, she got her course on her own back in 2010, shot her first deer in 2011 made a perfect shot on a nice doe, and last year we saw 13 deer opening day and she had an opportunity at a nice wide 8 point, she didn't have a good shot so she didn't take it...it is fun to get her out there, it also gives me more time to hunt with the boys...LOL

I hope to fill both of my Archery tags and if everything goes perfect I fill a DMP tag with my bow as well...then I don't have to gun hunt much and I can hold out for a Big Buck only...3 deer feeds my family for the year, 4 allows me to share. I have had a few 4 deer seasons but I never shoot more than that...I don't need more than that...Good luck!

My experience, if there is food there will be deer, there will almost always be as many deer as the land can support...I try to take a Doe with my bow and I usually try to fill one of my two Doe permits, I let younger bucks walk and hold out for a more mature buck by choice...Does tend to be more territorial than bucks and a mature doe will keep other deer away from their home area...if you can take a good mature Doe that is dry, I think that helps the herd the most...I grew up hunting in the Tug Hill where there was very few deer, the area was logged 10-15 years ago and now there are more deer than some of my southern zone spots...if there is food, they will be there...good luck the season is almost here!!

Not sure where this was hit, but I got the same picture twice one text said on 104B near RT 1 and another said Rt 104 in Scriba near the Driving Range...I hate when texts go around like this, it happenes every year...either way it is a monster! Sad to see it happen like that...

2012 was a good year I managed to fill both Bow Tags I shot a nice buck I had on camera however, he lost a side of his rack, not a big deal he was the biggest bodied deer I have ever taken he weighed in 191 dressed, I also took a nice doe, the first deer I got on video and I filled a 7M doe tag... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnedKG4gqZ4

Well I guess I will start a journal, have had the trail cams out since late June, have had a lot of different deer show themselves, the season cannot come up quick enough, this should be another great NY Bow Season...I hunt Southern Onondaga County 7M and around home in Oswego County 7A...some of the cam pics so far this year...
