  1. I remember my first time ice fishing a few years ago at the small boat harbour in buffalo my brother and I got out of the hut at the same time on a windy night with no snow on the ice. The hut took off on the ice thank god it hit the break wall other wise I may have been going to canada

  2. Why are you passing doe? They are good practice and mighty tasty.. my brother did what you did for years waiting for buck with bow, finally convinced him to shoot a doe, now he takes a deer buck or doe just about every year he hunts with bow. If you buy your muzzleloader tag at beginning of bow you get an anterless tag valid anywhere in the state, get a doe and keep hunting for that buck on your either sex tag!! Get a few doe kills under your belt and you will be come a much better hunter and more confident as well!
but that either sex tag is only good for bow and late season not regular
  3. I let a buddy hunt my property yesterday, he's deerless for the year and had the day off. He called today and reported no deer sightings, but he did find what he said was an active coyote den near the property line. I didn't think coyotes used den's at this time of year, but to be honest im not really sure.

I'm inclined to go out there and start shooting them this weekend, but dont know if its worth the drive down. Anyone else ever come across a den this time of year? will it be like fish in a barrel shooting or what?

you have till March 31 st to get them I'd wait till after ml season.
  4. My property is forecasted to get 30 inches of snow before the weekend is up according to the paper. Now I doubt that we will get that much but will deer be moving with that much snow on the ground?

  5. There is the Alabama swamps near buffalo it's about 35 minutes away. Not too many bow hunt that area. Also there is darian lake state park that's about 40 minutes away. I've never bow hunted that before. As for tags you need to purchase a license idk the cost but your bow tag will have a buck tag and a either sex tag. You bow tag can be used anywhere in the state where you can legally hunt. Also you can get dmp tags those are area specific. Land owners can be hit or miss. Start early to get permission to hunt

  6. because bowhunting is the chit!

For me, it's not about filling tags. It's about the experience and the challenge

i love how hunting after this year I was just wondering why they give you tags without completing the coarse
  7. Crazy...I swear I had a bald buck under my stand with his nose in my bag of scents this past Wednesday morning.

When I saw the body in the distance I swore it was a buck, but as it approached my tree I saw it was bald... It was 6:45 am and pretty dark so I could only see no antlers, I did not make out shed wounds, but the deer was not acting like a doe.

Others have already found shed antlers this season.

my brother shot a 1.5 to 2.5 year old button buck this year
  8. I usually sit in the shed like blind we have on top of the hill abd put my e caller out as far as I can so the remote still works. The blind is on top of a hill. My buddy thinks he found there den at the far end of the property today so I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

  9. I have lights but my property is hardwoods. So if it's dark like tonight it's tough to hunt them. Tomorrow after my morning hunt I'm going to take a ride to see if I can't get permission to hunt some fields surrounding my camp there is a good size one across the street and I usually hear them in that direction

  10. I haven't shot a 308 but my 20ga 870 kicks less than a 30-06 for sure, with field loads/upland game loads. There's a bit more thump with a 3" magnum for spring turkey, though honestly I don't feel it at all when I'm actually hunting. When I was a kid, shooting a slug out of it at a target range scared me a bit the first time... (you notice it!) but again, when I'm actually hunting, I barely notice the gun go off.

I can tell you, for whatever reason, my 20ga will shoot a a cheap slugger with more accuracy than any of the 12ga. 870s we have sighted in using better rounds (used to be shotgun only here for many years). We were a bit surprised by just how sharp and dead on that little 20 is. For close range, it's a fine slug gun. My dad actually prefers to carry it over his 12ga. when we are hunting shotgun only areas.

a 20 ga has much better ballistics then a 12 ga
  11. I was just wondering because when you fill out a tag is technically when you harvest it. I already shot a regular season buck abd have dmps for my area I was just thinking with the season winding down what would happen in this situation
