  1. Im thinking of getting my 10 year old the rossi paired. Probably the 20gauge/223. I like the idea of a single shot because it makes it so that first shot counts. Yes a quick second shot is nice but he should learn one shot one kill. JMO. Heck i have an 870 and i still only load one shot in it even if im deer or turkey hunting. Small game i use a single shot 20ga h&r. He may learn on that first before he gets his own. Good luck with whatever you decide!

my brother has 2 single shot 20 ga one smooth one rifled he shot a deer this year the shots where so close together I thought he used his pistol

  2. I'm quite positive the slowest drivers all choose to piss me off by being in the left lane, and the ones who decide to go the limit on the highway love being in the middle even though the right lane is clear... Deep breath... Deep breath.

thats how it was for me trying to get to camp opening day. Had a civil service test in the am so I was in a hurry to get down to camp. I must have pass 20 cars while in the right hand lane. I was not happy
  3. I haven't used Lone Wolf. I haven't found anyone that has had anything negative to say about them. I have owned two Summits. The first one being the Viper SD. I love it. Very comfortable and quiet. It weighs 20# but feels heavier when carrying. I also own a Summit MLB Specialist. It weighs in at 16#. It is a little loud. If I am ginger with it I can keep it quiet. I would much rather sit in the Veiper SD actually I shoud say sleep as it is nice to it in. I use the MLB stand for bowhunting and for when I go to the deepwoods.

hows climbing with the mlb I'm look at purchasing a climber but don't know which to go with. My brother has the submit Titan or something it's the size up from the viper but it's too big for me (also too comfortable zzzz)
  4. Actually quite apart from all this garbage from our resident PETA member, I do have a question that is related to the original question. I was wondering the other day about what would happen if I saw a coyote while hunting with my .270. I would like to do something with the hide of one of those critters, but I wonder about what kind of damage might be done. I am shooting a .270 with 150 grain spire point. Am I likely to see some blown apart unusable mess if I take one out with that rifle?

well what ever it did to your deer just imagine it on something twice as small
  5. I have that same problem. Last week I'm walking in, 1 mile up hill. Pushed through some thick mountain laurel. I am physically exhausted, 8 am. Dying of thirst. And I see this big bodied buck. My back pack still on. Weighted down. I'm by myself. Could have pulled the trigger 5 times, just didn't want to do the work. And walk 1 mile out to get my deer cart. So I stood and watched the deer for 10 minutes. Then he bounced away.

I was happy. I saw antlers. That made my day. I sat for 3 hours, and went home.

It was a perfect day of hunting.

If I had a hunting partner to help me drag, maybe I would have pulled the trigger. But it was a good day.

just curious why would you go hunt so far in to not take a shot at a buck?
  6. This is my first year with a trail cam. My intention was to see what animals were feeding in my berry patch and I got shots of coyotes, foxes, opossums, coons, a bear, deer and small game. I recorded numerous small bucks all summer and early fall but nothing big.

During the first week in October I moved a camera to small hidden deer run not oriented to any obvious food source-it looked classic buck. I left it until last week. My eyes popped when I saw this.

Enlarge the picture for a better view.

How did you even see him originally
  7. I passed one 2 years ago in Delaware Co. while fall turkey hunting. I thought about trying to wing it with the outside part of my shot pattern, but didn't want to chance mangling it. Good luck

are black squirrels that rare by you? I've see more blacks then greys on my property. My buddy's property in 9r that I hunt I saw 6 during bow. Could have shot one if I had my judo tip on
  8. I know this is not an answer to your original question, but I have a slightly different bait method.

I hope you still have access to the guts (or stop buy any local processor, and they will probably give you some)

Take the scraps, let them get a little warm/rank if you can. If not, this will still work.

Get a 5 gallon bucket. Wipe the inside with crisco, or any good grease (bacon grease is the BEST!) Fill the bucket with guts and scraps and water. Less water, more guts. Let it freeze. Slide out the results and you have a solid gut-sicle! Put that out as bait. Yotes will gnaw at it for a while, giving you plenty of time to shoot.

A lot of times, hanging ribs, or using a loose bait pile, the yotes or fox will just grab and run. This prevents that. The grease does double duty of helping get the ice block out of the bucket, and seeping into the top layer of ice for scent and taste.

    Just my $.02 :)

    Joshua

ill bring a 5 gallon bucket with me to camp and if someone gets a deer I'll go that
