  1. Friend in Westchester gut shot an 8 in the morning, had blood, lost it and couldn't recover the deer. Not many people I know having luck in Putnam and Westchester so far.
  2. Personally don't bowhunt myself but My friend hunting Putnam had a doe at 20 but got spooked, Friend hunting Westchester missed a 6. Shot right under him at 35, Another friend hunting Westchester had 2 does come into 5 yards but he was trying to catch it on film but couldn't get it so he didn't shoot. Pretty bad Opening Day for them
  3. If anyone wants give a 4Z for a 4Y or 3M, your preference, it would be helpful.
  4. Simple for instance, we have 23 acres. Hunted this and surrounding properties for years, those properties get sold off and we are a big group on that lonely parcel surrounded by a lot of hunters. Now we want a lease so we won't get into trouble if we run into another hunter. The pressure is insane. If we were able to own larger parcels of land for a cheap price and not crazy taxes, then people can make their own decision and not have to be forced into waiting it out for an 8. Please don't kid yourself, New York is an average, nicer buck state. Not a Pope and Young state.
  5. My grandfather owns property in Columbia County and the surrounding parcels was also owned by family and friends. Now with the passing of a few and the others becoming sick, the parcels are selling off and being bought by other hunters and people putting up houses. So we are left with a measly 23 acres and we are a regular group of 8, which is EXTREMELY dangerous. Can someone please help out if they have any info of land we can lease in Columbia so we can still utilize the house? Hearing the news of surrounding hunters ruined the fun and we definitely want to find a lease close by because we cannot afford to fully buy a nice piece of property. If anyone has any news or info please let me know.
  6. Absolutely disagree. As hunters we should be able to decide for ourselves and not have the state decide for us. Let's face it and it's obvious, New York will never be an Illinois, Kansas or Texas Buck state.
  7. I currently have a Moultrie set up on its 4th year and the night pictures come out plain black, I don't know if the flash isn't working, probably because the day pictures come out fine. But to answer your main question, Covert is probably one of the best out right now and Primos isn't too bad either, takes good pictures.
  8. Hey OMG, you were right. I switched all the batteries and walked in front of the cam, it not only took the pictures but they came out very clear. Looks like it wasn't water! haha, Me and my father had gotten so disappointed that we ran upstate this morning, looked at the cam and scouted other areas. Found a torn up run which is good news, and now i'm home watching my Jets
  9. That's true HuntorBeHunted! All of the pictures of deer they are staring straight at the camera! And when I pulled the card there is a little file with random icons kind of like this, !*#5f*. And wow that's funny OMG, I'm going to try that. My father is getting annoyed with it as well so we might even be taking a run up tomorrow just to take care of that...and probably stock up on firewood as it is getting cold!
  10. When something popped up on the display it was blurred and the inside of the cam was wet, so I was making an assumption lol.
  11. I have a Primos Truth Cam 35 that I set up at my father's stand where I shot my 8 pointer last year, and after two weeks we took a ride upstate to check the cams. Ok I go up to the cam and expect it to take pictures of me and nothing was popping up on the display, so I just swapped sd cards and decided i'd deal with it later. Turns out it didn't take a single picture and that's because it's water damaged. Any tips on how I can fix a water damaged camera, or should I just buy a new one?
  12. If anyone has a 4Z or 3N and is willing to get rid of it, I would completely take it off your hands.
  13. Where about in Columbia are you? And do what the other guy said. It doesn't hurt to ask landowners, just cause they have Posted signs doesn't mean they won't let you hunt. Ironically, most of the properties we've gotten permission to had posted signs. So try it out and gain some more land rather than those 5 acres
  14. If everything goes right when time comes, looks like i locked up "keeping fingers crossed" 2 properties to slug hunt this season! Ironically, both owners hunt but one doesn't hunt the property at all and the other goes out occasionally with his brother. One was over the phone and one was face to face. Looks like we got 2 but I also got denied by 5...
  15. This actually kind of worries me considering i'm about 50 minutes away from Poughkeepsie AND my father has had severe headaches to the point where it hurts to bend down or sneeze for over a month now. Thanks for the post! I'm gonna be extra careful now.
  16. Thanks everybody, culvercreek I think we might be able to do that. First we have to check the gun just to make sure a piece isn't worn inside the gun that won't hold the mag up, then buying a new magazine would be a waste. Thanks for the leads!
  17. My father has a Mossberg 810A 30-06 that he's been hunting with since he was 16, but he has a faulty magazine that does not stay in the gun to pump another shot through so he has a system of when he shoots he has to hold the edge of the mag to be able to get another bullet in. I have been wanting to surprise him with one for a while now. I've searched GunBroker, Gun Parts and i just can't find a magazine to fit this gun! The gun was only made from 1970-1975 then it was discontinued. Should I call Mossberg directly, or possibly just drop it and then when he wants he can invest in a new gun. What do you guys think??
  18. That sounds like a good setup you got there GreeneHunter. I am more into gun which might freak out the landowners but hey as long as one person says yes, i'm happy!
  19. Culvercreek, you got me aha. I love the Remington but i also want to add to the collection as we all do
  20. I'm interested because i currently use a Remington 20 gauge for everything so i don't want to overwork it, even though it's a beast of a gun. So i'm thinking of picking up a double barrel for small game or a strictly slug gun. They seem to be popular and have a good system.
  21. The quality of these pictures is amazing, very nice!
  22. Currently working on this from different approaches, face to face with an italian guy that owns a nice piece, email with a girl i go to school with that i just learned that her parents own 35 acres, and phone call with an elderly woman in Maryland that owns fields and woods here. Hoping one of these does the trick!
  23. Thanks for the info Martin, we own a cabin up there and have heard good things for small game. The deer hunting is very rough up there so we leave that for down in the southern tier, but we are really gonna pick up small game again this year.
  24. Has anyone ever used this GunBroker site before? They seem to have some really nice guns and I am thinking of possibly trying it out if it has good reviews by peers.
  25. Lol Elmer Fudd, I really wish it worked like that. Then i would just pull over anywhere and do some huntin!
