If the employee gave him an arrow too short can you say "lawsuit". Wow looks like a few of us chimed about the same time. Just about makes you sick to look at that pic. OUCH!!!

Very Good Idea!!!! hmmmm

Shot a nice 110 class 8 in #6 on 2007. Hard place to hunt cause visibilty and the trees suck for stands since the heavy snow during the 2008 season trashed the orchard. I have had some luck grunting to buck that pass thru on the main trail and getting them to turn and come into me for shots.

Well Sat I hunted #7 morning til 10, saw nothing. Hunted #4 afternoon, saw 2 doe late. My son hunted #14 morning saw 5pt and 4 doe. He coulda shot the buck. My son hunted #1 afternoon, saw 5 doe and 2 small buck. I hunted #1 this morning (Sun) saw 3 buck, one decent 7pt and a shit 3pt and nice 5pt. Coulda shot the 3pt. Someoneposted about thermal here so regarding thermals there is generally a decent breeeze so I don't think thermals generally play much a role on this property. I plan to hunt #9 Fri afternoon. I think #14 will bring us a real nice buck at some point this year It is a lone pine tree about 12 ft up and we are hidden really well. As long as we hunt it with a south wind. There are always doe in this thicket so eventually the big bucks will be cruisin it. They do every year but this is the first year we had a stand in it and there is a food plot too.

A little buck urine? A little tarsal? Doe pee only? Do you rattle? Do you use a grunt call? What do you do to try to lure in the dominant buck early season?

I was just saying the same thing to another local hunter/friend of mine. I've seen 3 scrapes... one mock one that has a little interest, another that I opened and they are using it and a thrd small one down in the apple orchard. Usually by 8th of Oct they are all open. I'm glad to hear that it's not just here in southern Oneida Cty. You may go back next weekend and they are all opened up. My son and I did see some bucks and does... nothing special. I wonder if this will make the rut late too?

Nice buck young man!!! Congrats!

I saw 2 doe late in the day before dark but my 17 yo son who I'm trying to get out of bed right now (5:53am Sun) saw a few. In the am he saw 4 doe and passed on 5pt. Afternoon hunt he saw 5 doe, a huge spike and a 4pt. Gotta try one more time to get his ass outta bed now. Headin' out at 6:15.

Gun shots at first light opening day of bow season sz
nybuckboy replied to Dutchess hunter's topic in Bow Hunting
had coyote hunters around this morning and heard numerous shots -
Generally I say no alcohol... not necessary. That being said, I have been with some hunters and at lunch some had a can of beer. I've had one myself. The problem with any alcohol, is you never know who has a 6 pk with them and is drinking throughout the afternoon while sitting on a log. So I say No to Alcohol while hunting... especially a BIG DOUBLE NO during rifle season.

Yeah those are my 4 wheeler trails that I bushhog for horseback riding and it makes it easier to get around on foot as well as access by 4 wheeler. The deer use them as well. All the stands except 8&9 are on the SW side of the creek.
-
I access 8 & 9 by 4 wheeler and come in from the east. Pretty easy access.

CRP overgrown fields that are bush hogges every 3rd year

7:15 is sunrise so I'd say about 6am. Shooting light is generally about 6:45am. I didn't say legal light.

What time do you plan to be in the woods and in your stand Sat morning?

The one thing no one has addressed is the kinetic energy. When using a low poundage bow you need a heavier arrow. The slower the arrow travels the more weight you should use. How heavy is the current arrow? What is the FOC - Front Of Center? To me I would think no less than a 400 grain arrow with a FOC of no less than 12%. 430 grain arrow and 15% FOC would be my approximate goal for your wife. This set up would hit like a small truck inside 15 yds. Using a 38 lb draw weight and say a 325 total grain arrow weight this could stick into the animal but never really penetrate very deep. Any one else have any thoughts on this? PS: I'd suggest the 100 grain fixed blades you have in your closet.

disagree with this recomendation

looks like the forecast is for lows in the 50's and a high of 70 for Sat/Sun.

about 240 acres and I have permission to hunt the land east of stands 8 & 9 as well but generally hunt the 240
-
my thought are that they will feed on the corn and beans and then come back easterly in the morning and then bed for the day and then late aft move westerly toward the corn and beans. Hopes are they will stop along the way at the oats for a snack.

Yes as well as 1 & 2

This is land I've been hunting for 10 years. I have numerous tree stands on the land. The West end is lower and the East end is higher ground so the land slopes from East to West with a ravine on the East end with a small stream that runs Westward through the triangular woods which consists of hardwoods and pines that slope downward through really thick stuff and apples. There is corn as well as beans on adjacent land which I can not hunt and I can not access the land from the North but can from the other 3 sides. The corn is marked with a "C"; the beans with a "B"; the apples with an "A" and the tree stands are numbered. There are new oats planted very near to stands # 1, 2, 5 ,11, 14 and some forage clover and rape in the woods on a log trail near #6. For the early season starting Oct 15th and up until early Nov, I was thinking I would hunt the mornings at either stands # 1, 2, 5, 12 ,14 and afternoons at stands 8, 9, 11. Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated.
