  1. Observation sit this morning, watching 3 big fields and a swamp edge.  Wind wasn't right to go in where I wanted.  Thermals are dragging downhill right now.  Going to sit for another hour or so then pull cards, move cameras + check for scrapes and rubs.  NE wind this evening might be nice for cozying right up to the 3dhe of a bedding area!

  2. I'm dying to get out, this has been the least I've hunted in October in over 10 years.  Be out in the morning.  Haven't touched the cams in almost 3 weeks too.  Wish I could get out and scout this afternoon while the wind is up but have to do Halloween stuff with the kids and drop my daughter off at her drama class.  It's making me antsy.

With your steeper one, youll want to add a perennial blend as well. To help in erosion control asap. You want it green and holding soil together first thing in spring. OR frost seed it once you get it good and clear. You may have some bad erosion issues there. But all looks good!

I'm gonna bring a couple bags down and hand spread some rye on it today.  Probably use some rope+ chainsaw and drag it a bit after.  I am worried about the erosion factor in the spring.  Probably spread some fertilizer on the top plot today.  I have 8 bags left over and I'll soil test it in the spring.

7.4 lbs! Dang! They are cool though. I’ve got a Henry 45-70 with a Leupold vx3 1.5-5x20 that I might bring out a couple times just for fun this year. I’m not sure what it weighs, but it doesn’t feel heavy. Being short (the gun) helps that I think.

Yeah, I've got a request in to my "guy" for one.  I imagine it will happen eventually.

  5. The logger has cleared 2 1/2 sized plots on the steep assed hillside property.  The more easily accessible one has some beautiful soil.  Thinking with the deep one, drill the stumps and use stump rot, in the mean time I'll fertilize it and plant some rye around.  The second, nicer, better drained, easily accessible one, planning on planting a few apple trees next year.  Might just pay the guy to come in and grind those stumps down to get it going quick.

Edit: Since pics never upload in the right order, pic #1 & 3 is the deep plot, 2 & 4 the accessible one.

It reopens November 1st but not all WMU's will be open. Only WMU's with leftover DMP's will be open. I can guess what some of WMU's will be 8G,8A,8F,8N this just some from the past.

    That's my experience as well!

Just had a scrubby 7pt sniffing and harassing a doe and fawn at 30 yards. Saw a different small buck chasing a doe around in a field for about an hour last evening.

Is it just me, or is everything 2 weeks early this year?  Apples, acorns and even the deer?  Bachelor groups have broken up by me, and I think they are SLAMMING the acorns already.

7 deer this evening, had to coyote howl to get out.  No big fellas came out to play.  Deer were really focused on the clover.

I think this is a really small 2 year old.  Still bigger than the little forky that was sparring with him, but not by much.  No brow tines five point, somebody is going to kill him this year unless he smartens up.  Need an arrow that won't permanently hurt him, just give a shock to the ass or something.
