Don't know if this has been posted before but it's pretty funny. http://www.zanylol.com/accident.html

Any other deer would have to be in the same league as the monster. I wouldn't pass one mature deer with the hope of getting a bigger one but I would also probably be hunting the monster more anyway.

Easy- now, I'm a little too superstitious for my own good. You're probably right about going on the offense in high school. Knowing what I know I now- I would have done things a little differently...

Either not enough nitrogen or the ground it is in is too wet/ compacted. Is it yellow in spots that are slightly lower than nearby green spots?
-
Good follow up. I follow the logic of the DEC officer. Also- it is not illegal to hunt over apples that have fallen unless you have moved them at all.
-
well true, but from 11/15 to 12/31 you can use a gun of some sort whether it be a rifle, shotgun, or ML

Fresh one.

That won't help the CT hunters too much. There won't be a lot of practice time either.

Crappy timing for the gun hunters that think they might want to expand their seasons- it will take a long time to get into a bow hunter safety class this time of year. I still can't believe they voted down allowing Sunday hunting. Of all things that would add to the deer harvest, doubling the available hunting days for most hunters would make the biggest difference.

How long to drag it?
-
I couldn't find anything to support this on the DEEP website although I did read some comments found on an internet search saying that they were made legal from as far back as May. Special permit Biz?

My family has done this forever in the ADKS. Sure beats the long drag. One time I had only a kitchen garbage bag in my coat so I boned out the deer I shot, took off my turtle neck and tied off the sleeves and stuffed everything in there to carry it out. Not as comfortable as a pack but still better than dragging. Done properly there is no hair or dirt contamination.

This one came in as I was typing the previous post... Note the date and time

I have to admit- last night I was checking my phone for any new pictures every few minutes and it felt like one of those lonely loser Friday nights in high school when I used to just stare at the phone, hoping, praying it would ring and a girl would be calling with something to do... But alas this time my phone did ring and the pictures did come in!

How did the crossbow vote turn out?

I'm liking the mass in the last picture.

It's a prepaid Gophone plan- 9.99/mo for 1000 or 19.99 for unlimited. I think there is maybe a $5 for 200 plan too. I can foresee needing to come up with a way to manage the inflow of pictures. It would be really cool to figure out how to get them to just send straight to a folder on my computer.

I drove down to my traditional hunting grounds in CT yesterday and set out 4 cameras in preparation for bow season. 2 were the Covert Spec Ops cameras that Phade has posted about in this forum. They can send a picture to your phone and/or email. My phone buzzed with the 1st picture of a doe just as I was leaving the state on my way home. I received several other pictures on the way home and I wisely turned my phone to silent when I went to bed- I had 46 new pictures that were texted to me between midnight and 5 am! There appears to be a couple of nice bucks there- the only way to tell them apart is there brow tines it seems, which are pretty small on the one and the other only has 1. Fun stuff...

That Doberman doesn't have any horns...

I would say it depends on how close you are and what your angle really is. I held on a doe at about 5 yards last fall that was nearly right below me. She wouldn't move and I had the choice of letting down or taking the shot. I had enough time to analyze the shot angle and where the arrow should come out. Took the shot and couldn't have placed it better with my hand. I would not have taken the same shot if the deer was 20+ yards away though.

I assume he's #1?

Here's a moose trail cam thread I put up last fall: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/13245-2012-adirondack-moose/?hl=moose My brother gets plenty of moose on the cams and now that I've committed a few of my cams to the ADKs I've started getting them pretty often too.
