  1. I can't make out a tail either but it is a bobcat.
  2. No guarantee he's a home body. There was a cover article several years ago in NAW. A young guy killed a huge nontypical during the rut in WI. After word got around another hunter came forward with sheds from the buck as well as several years worth of trail cam pics of the buck in velvet and during the winter. This hunter could never figure out where the buck went during the rut. The place where the buck was killed and his sheds and pictures were taken were 7 air miles apart!
  3. I can just see it now- here comes deer slayer Joe with a huge bag of plastic corn cobs like a goose hunter with decoys!
  4. I'd have to agree with most of the previous statements. I can't really remember a classic charging buck response. I did kill nice buck in 2007 that came sneaking into a decoy setup after a rattling calling sequence. I think most NY hunters overdo the calling including myself. I've read enough articles that cite studies showing most of the bucks that respond are never seen. I've always wanted to hunt with a partner where the rattler/caller is 75 yards upwind of the shooter, who is located in heavy cover. I probably could accomplish the same thing using a remote predator type caller with prerecorded sounds.
  5. Sounds kind of like a GPS tag
  6. They will do that when dropping some pellets
  7. I think it was last month they voted it down. It would be silly if they were willing to allow more weapons but still limit a hunter's weekend to one day.
  8. Back when I still lived in CT and we milked 200 cows we ran an IH1086 with a discbine behind it. Now I only get to play with tractors on my day off- doing food plots and such. This is what our guys are running now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcKQFCeCkkU It just sounds like a big lawnmower.
  9. You know they just recently voted to continue the Sunday hunting ban, right?
  10. I live so close to there that I rarely go in anymore. BPS either. Sounds like there are some morons working there though. Whenever I get asked if I need help I always say NO!
  11. Did the DEC ever clarify the feeding rule after the Sullivan County case? In Hamilton County it was rumored that the GWs considered the feeding ban null and void until there was a formal clarification.
  12. Unfortunately, if it is indeed a yearling buck and he was a fawn there last year, he is more than likely to disperse in the next month or 2. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  13. Aww-shucks Elmer! I can't say I'm involved at all. I work with the cows only but the crop guys are running a Pottinger mower that mows 30'+ @>10mph, an Oxbo merger that is 40'+ wide, a Claas chopper, 2 semis, and 3 10-wheelers. A lot of moving parts. Oh yeah- 3 tractors on the silo pushing and packing.
  14. I'd bet money on it. My sighting was on the corner of Blanchard Rd and 5/20. The deer ran from the small brushy patch east of Blanchard, across the small field opening, and into the big buckthorn patch that is at the end of the drumlin that has a house on the 5/20 end. I only saw the deer for a split second but was sure of what I saw. I literally drove past there yesterday and thought about how cool it would be to get permission to get permission to put a camera there to get pictures of the deer. Now I guess I don't have to. I hope you get more pictures and he lives for at least 3 more years.
  15. I saw a deer that looked just like that this spring just off 5/20 about 3 miles west of Auburn.
  16. We are chopping 3rd cutting right now. Around 1000 acres.
  17. Not to worry- I'd never pay money for some big rack from somewhere else.
  18. Nice ones. Wouldn't it be bad for business though if you had to spend too much time mounting your own bucks rather than a client's?
  19. I drove through Old Forge yesterday- the place is a zoo and I'm not referring to all the pet deer running around. There was a shop that had some rather large whitetail mounts hanging on a tree outside- 160s+ racks, but I didn't stop.
  20. I've been there more than once. Just stick to the plan. So far I'd say 3/4 of the bucks I wanted to get another year or two on have been killed by neighbors but there is one I'm hoping to see this year that should be real corker 5 year old. Do you have any relatives in the Owasco/Auburn area? I have played men's league hockey with a Jim Mizro that has a farm and hunts as well.
  21. A brave call that is easiest to make when looking at trail cam pics instead of in the heat of the moment. All you can do is know that you weren't the one that took him out before his prime...
  22. Different bucks. That last one is a big mature deer.
  23. Phade- which model is that with audio? I am going to build a support that will allow the Coverts to be mounted on a 1/4 bolt- will post pics when finished.
  24. That one is a true stud. The one with the extra point looks like he's a younger deer with a ton of potential...
