  1. Thanks for the responses. I appreciate them. Yes, I have and do, waterfowl hunt; primarily out east and on the south shore. I am simply trying to find a place closer to home. I have spoken with the DEC. They too say its a grey area. In some areas, you need to be 3 miles off shore. (quite a way in a kayak especially into open water). I have heard of some that hunt out of Cold spring Harbor to the west, and others north of Northport Bay. The DEC also told me to be careful about access and parking. That is the big way Towns get around the legality of Federal laws of water fowling. Thats why I was asking for launching locations. Figured that would provide me with an experienced location, hopefully, avoiding the legal hassle. Please keep the opinions coming! Best of luck to everyone this season. Lets hope it cools down by OCT 1!
  2. Good morning - I am trying to find spots, (where its legal, not legal, and feasible) to launch a kayak and hunt the north shore. I am close to Huntington, and found out that they have a no discharge firearm policy) Does anyone know areas that are legal. I am not asking for specific 'honey hole' spots.(but I'd take if anyone wants to share!), rather looking for some areas to scout, that are legal. As always, thanks for the Help. Ps - if anyone on the island has goose/duck decoys that they would like to sell, PM me. Id gladly take a look! Have a great day and Thanks, John
  3. Good Afternoon, I am interested in purchasing a kayak for duck hunting and fishing. I am 5'8 235 (the old term would be 'husky'!) In decent shape, but could loose a quick 30- I have 2 questions: 1. What type of kayak do you recommend from experiences mostly river, ponds, inlet tributaries etc. No open water stuff 2. Best way to transport a kayak with a pickup with a cap. Ive been doing a lot of research on the internet, but Im looking for local opinions. Thanks, and have a Great Day! John
  4. Great job! Was a pretty quite duck season on the south shore for me.. Have some rusted up,shells I should have cleaned up as the season went along. Anyone have any tricks for removing the rust? Thanks John
  5. Hey Papa, What's a rough whereabouts did you see brant? Haven't seen any yet; just black ducks, and sea ducks. Thanks, John

    Long Island

Tough to hunt with the regulations. Was there at 6/20; last to get checked in, so wasn't hunting until 8am. Had to be out of woods by 4:37 to be back by 30 minutes after published sun set. Tough to walk out at that time, while there is plenty of shooting light. But, it's Long Island hunting. Last guy at check station brought in a very small 6; that, and a small fawn was all that was taken Tuesday per the dec worker. There must have been 40-50 hunters that i saw Tuesday am checking in. 7. Cmon guys - don't worry about the heat. It 70 degrees I'm out right now. Unfortunately, I'm wearing rubber boots, camo speedo, and face paint!!!!!!!! I've seen deer though. Nothing of size Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I started to use the third hand holder this year and yes you can climb with it. It holds the bow securely. Also less possibility of hitting your bow on the bottom platform while pulling it up with a rope.
  9. I've used Magnus buzz cuts for boar many times. Nasty broadhead that is capable of breaking bone. Might want to take a look at them. Good luck with the hunt.
  10. I Recently used the go pro sports mount for Duck hunting. Picture was fine; however the recoil from the first shot loosened the camera angle. I'll have to really be sure to tighten it next time out, although I'm not sure how much tighter it will get.
  11. Thanks for the responses. It is actually a business (because of the LLC) liability insurance policy for 1200.00 per year. I feel it's excessive for vacant land. (My homeowners policy is only 2k). I will look into the buckmasters membership John
  12. Good afternoon, I have 40 acres of vacant land in Greene county that is owned by an LLC (I am the principle owner). I have insurance, as a safe guard if some one gets hurt while hunting (with or without my permission). State Farm is getting very expensive so does anyone have an insurance company they know would provide a policy? Thanks John
  13. Happy new year to everyone. Just received the email from cabelas stating that they will no longer ship ammo ( actually was 12gauge shells) the this state because of the background checks that begin on January 15, 2014. I thought that this was being delayed. When I called cabelas they said the aren't taking any chances that would possibly put them in a legal situation. Has anyone else heard from other internet companies on this? Regards John.

  15. Good evening, I am going on a boar hunt and chose to do it with a bow. Currently, shoot a Hoyt element at 60lbs, with a 28 1/2 draw. Shoot 100grain rage 2's. I am starting to question the grain and overall arrow weight approx 390gn) and the mechanical broadhead. Can anyone offer tips from experience? Would hate to wound one and not find it. Thanks John
