So back in April I paid my uncle $25 for a raffle ticket. The raffle being everyday in September a gun club was giving away a new gun of some sorts. I got a call last night and it just so happens that I won a savage axis. Not sure if it is the axis II or axis xp or anything yet. I already have a rifle in .308. I'm not going to sell it but I want ideas of what I could do with it. It's a cheaper gun and I got it for free so I'm pretty much open to any ideas.

So I couldn't sleep at all last night, i finally fell asleep but when I did, I ended up sleeping through my alarms. I woke up at 7am and saw it was already light out. I debated whether or not to go out because of the rain, but thought hey why not right? I was all ready and in the blind by 720. at 730 i grunted a couple times and softly hit the rattle bag. 10 minutes later i saw some movement in the distance, couldnt tell doe or buck at first. As it was walking away i saw its antlers so i grunted twice and it immediately turned around and headed right for me. I didnt have a good shot until it quartered away, and i hit him right behind the shoulder. he ran 25 yards and went down. he isnt a giant but he is still an 8 pt and my first buck, so i am happy.

So I bought myself a rattle bag this week and sitting in the stand this morning, I thought why not give it a go... After rattling 3 times with a few minutes in between... Within 2 minutes the biggest 8 ptr i have seen came "jogging" out within 10-15 yards from me... He looks around, then goes to eating, I start to shoulder my rifle and just as I do, my elbow hits the side of my stand and that deer ran like there was no tomorrow... He is still out there and a smaller 6 my uncle saw last night... I gotta redeem myself this weekend

3J had extras this year, my two uncles, grandfather, and myself all received our second dmps in the mail last week

I usually hunt out in Galway or in the SZ but I have some afternoons and two days off of school next week (I am 16). I was wondering if anyone on here has hunted in any of the public land in Saratoga County, I am mostly looking at Parcel 45, Moreau State Park, and some state and town land by exit 16 and Ballard road. Has anyone, or does anyone hunt these areas? If so do you have any pointers or advice on where to go or not to go in these areas? thanks

I sure wish I could take vacation time off from school... I have work on the weekends and because it's only part time it's hard to take off so I requested the 13th-16th off... And any afternoons or days off from school i will be utilizing

I forgot my sitpad this weekend... Yesterday was cold and went... Not fun... But today is dryer and warmer so it's not terrible, I've been sittin for 10 minutes now and I can still feel my butt

Soo... I shoot .308 and that's what I will use when hunting... But I'm going to walk into the woods later today and just do some "plinking" with my uncle.. And I was wondering if there really is a difference a major difference that I shouldn't use any of the 7.62x51 in my .308 rifle just to do some target shooting... So let's see what people have to say

I wear under armour thermals then fleece pants and ten usually jeans and then a very thin outer shell.... i just wanted to eliminate the very outer shell, thanks for all the i put next Wednesday is payday... Im almost 17 so i or nothing else to spend my money on, maybe i will try some things recommended

Now I am pretty sure that there is a post about this already but I couldn't find it and want everyones up to date answers... So what does everyone wear during: late October, November, and then late November... Please feel free to share anything or recommend different things. Just today I purchased a pair of camouflage insulated jeans by wrangler... They were a mere $54.99, I plan to use them all year with only having to change what I am wearing underneath as the temperatures get cooler, or warmer, I really can't tell with the weather we have been having.

Last year I was in my climber for the afternoon hunt after lunch and i had to piss... And not knowing that human piss may or may not effect a deer, i though my only option was to pee in the bottle i had with me... Turns out I never franks the snapple iced tea inside so i chugged the ice tea then pissed in the bottle... 30 minutes later all that iced tea made me have to piss again so i then pissed off the side of the climber and wen finished i got my earth smelling spray and dumped half the bottle on the area below the tree, all the while that was happening I didnt notice the 6 pointer 30 yards from my stand staring at me, and once I stopped moving and looked at it, he took off and ran into the woods

Experienced this last year... I was sitting with my back against a tree facing down into a valley/ravine when to kids about 11-12 ride their bikes up the hill towards me... Im sitting there with only my eyes not covered by something camo.... They get about 5 yards away and finally see me, they just stopped and starred like they've never seen someone hunting before...just gave a little wave and down the hill they went

Extra pair of socks Paper towel/napkin/toilet paper or a bandana.... Many uses Lighter/matches Your favorite candy bar Some of those may seem a little extreme but i always wear a back pack so I have the carrying capacity and hey you never know what can happen out there
