  1. Hi all,

So I have twin 11yo girls and am looking for compund bow recommendations. She is a lefty or she would have been passed her cousin's Darton. Tought to find a used LH.

Her sister who is RH will be acquiring the Darton on Christmas.

I obviously want a bow that will grow with her and one she will be able to hunt with when the time comes. I have done a fair amount of research, but with so many memebers who have their kids hunting, i figured I'd ask. TIA.

I don't know that I've seen that red barn, but I'm in Monroe County. There's lots of AG around here and, with good genes and time to grow, they can get pretty big. There was some article a few years back about US Olympic speed skater Cathy Turner. She has a place out here near Hilton and is (or was) an avid bow hunter. The article showed a brute that she took off her property.

    Found that article:

    cool story, thanks for sharing!

Mast crops like acorns and apples were very low this year. Our food plots are eaten down to stubble. Mostly all done at night. The deer we do see during hunting hours are eating browse very close to cover. This us on a multiple hundred acre property that we've hunted for half a century and know intimately. With low hunting pressure from within.

I agree, the lack of acorns has played a significant part in the lack of deer  and sightings in general. Areas where i am used to seeing cow paths in the woods are non-existent. They are there, but their patterns have definitely changed in my neck fo the woods. But the rut is here and anything can happen now!

  4. Trip was a success, one in our group connected with a 5 point. The weather wasn't great and I couldnt stay and play in the snow that fell Saturday night. Did see a buck Saturday evening, but no opportunity for a shot or even a good glimpse of what was on his head.

Back to the regular seaosn opener Saturday.

  5. Headed up to Camp tomorow until Sunday for the first trip of the year. Haven't made it to camp as much in recent years for a variety of reasons, but hoping to get back into it next year as I am losing my close to home hunting ground. Excited to see the boys and put some miles on with the Marlin. A new camp is in the works and our property has been logged the last couple years and the cams are showing a lot more deer in the area. We usually start to see some seeking around this time as prime time is generally a bit later than down south. Good luck to all north and south!

We’ve come far from when we put bread wrappers over our socks In our uninsulated green rubber boots !

When I hunted with my Dad in the 80’s (I was a young boy), he had us do that. Brings back memories of wooden stands and not being able to sit still for 2 minutes.

Will do, she’s 11. Good weather she could do 3-4 hours. Hot hands and hot chocolate weren’t cutting it today lol. I find that my kids do a lot less fidgeting if they are in a tree.
