Sat out all day in this terrible weather and to my amazement had a good buck come in hot chasing a doe around 4:45. Of course he was dead down wind and picked up my scent but couldn't figure out where it was coming from due to the high winds. He froze for about 2 minutes behind a tree with only his back end exposed, meanwhile daylight is fading and I am waiting for him to split. He ended up turning to head back the way he came from and I squeezed off a shot. He was quartering away when I shot and I think I was aimed a bit back when I squeezed off the round. He fell over when I hit him and gathered himself and hastily walked away. There was OK blood for the first 100 yards or so and that fizzled out for about 100 yards when it picked back up and he entered a thicket. I decided to back out as I was not confident of the shot. I gave him about an hour after I shot before I tracked and hadn't come across a bed before he entered that thicket. My thought was to back out if I find a bed. He was dragging a leg on the far side of his body so that would lead me to believe the bullet likely entered mid body and hit the leg/shoulder on the way through. Thoughts? I am not sure what tomorrow will bring and honestly a little angry with myself I didn't make a better shot.

The bed wouldn't let go of me this morning after doing about 4 miles of this yesterday down in 9R. Out in 9J today praying the trees don't come down.

The one I took in mid October was the same way. We may be in store for a rough winter.

Just had a shooter 8 be sure he stayed just on the other side of the property line. Story of my life.

Nothing like capping the season off with s nice tree ride. Blowing pretty good in 9J.

Am I correct in thinking the only two requirements is the hunter safety and the crossbow cert on the DEC website? Looking to get a first timer out.

Killzone ripped a wicked hole through a doe I shot over the weekend. Went 25-30 yards and piled up. Again, mostly has to do with shot placement.

1st and 2nd look as so. 3rd pic looks more like a trail. Possible bed on the middle. Little hard to tell from the picture.

Check out the book Mapping Trophy Bucks by Brad Herndon. Lots of information and stories/results to go with the information. I have read it multiple times now and still learn a bunch every time I look back through it.

Saddles, shelfs, points, breaklines - all points of interest. Mark up a map and hit the woods to confirm your suspicion. If you are in hilly country remember to watch your thermals. Deer will travel to utilize the reversals to their benefit.

I would second the idea of giving it a try. Drove around the area some post season with the intention of giving it a try this year. I think certain portions of the refugee are off limits for periods of the year. There is also Oak Orchard there which adds another huge piece of land to the mix and that is all open I believe.

As for the bag - ran it 3 out of the 4 times I headed into the woods this weekend. Deer ended up down wind of me on 3 occasions and only "alerted" them on one occasion. They didn't blow but hastily exited the area. Obviously the point isn't to ignore the wind but I thought I had them patterned and was down wind of the trail but they chose to prove me wrong once again. The best laid plans....

Only thing on the Ozone Go is that you aren't supposed to be in the vehicle while it is running....kind of defeats the purpose. I would thinking running it while driving to the woods would be the idea

Sat from 6:30-12:30 only 2 squirrels. Had some jackass some through at about 75 yards at 8am smoking a cig and then again at 11am. Back in the saddle now. Just had a fork horn under me.

I am just hoping that it will buy me the extra 30 seconds I need when that deer is down wind.
