  1. Ok im looking at a savage model axis xp, it is all black, comes with synthetic stock, matte finish on the barrel, also includes a scope, 3-9x40 mounted and bore sighted for 399. Anyone heard of this series of savage rifle? i know this is my first rifle, so i dont need anything extravegant, but i want it to last, you know?
  2. Ok, im looking at a savage 270. My question is though what is the difference in a 270 win, and 270 wsm?
  3. My main problem is im so new to this sport i dont know one brand from another, or one model from another
  4. Ok i am looking for a good rifle scope, for hunting white tail... i am on a budget though, probably 200 being my max. Also i was thinking about putting a red dot or pro dot on my shotgun, anyone with experience with these types of scopes can you shed some light on them for me? thanks
  5. Ok so i know you can't bait deer, thats a given, but can you plant a food plot? like clover? can you hunt it? if so when is the best time to do this so the deer do not eat it come time for the season?

I think the pat downs go to far, but i also know for a fact that all news, no matter what station you watch or paper you read, is biased. I think they should do away with the pat downs, but the scanners don't really bother me. I like your quote, but you have to remember back to that september day when all those innocent people went through hell, for no good reason. On one hand I value my freedom, on the other i value my safety, it's just a matter of finding a happy median, but in doing so many procedures will be put into place and taken away until they find a perfect combination of safety and freedom/privacy.
  8. Same to you bro, spend some time with your family and fill up on turkey and stuffing!
  9. Same to you brother. Fill up on turkey and watch the dallas game tonight lol :
  10. All that really bothers me is that we are judged, i have had complete strangers judge me on the fact that i hunt, i don't like to be judged without a fair chance to share my side of the story. People always say karma comes back around, so i make it a point to TRY (no ones perfect) not to judge people before i hear there side. It's hard at times but I have made some friends by being that way.
  11. Alright guys calm down, none have you (excluding the OP) have even met the guy. We as hunters get mad when we are judged without being given a fair chance to defend ourselves, so we should not do the same. I have hunted with a guy that brings a flask into and out of the woods. Look at it like this, a flask is usually about 8oz, and a shot is usually 1oz i think, so thats 8 shots. Now do you think this guy is taking shot after shot? If he enters the woods with 8oz of booze and exits with 7oz, i dont really see a problem. Yes it is dangerous and does impair judgement, but people have died hunting completely sober. Owning and using a flask does not make you a boozer. But as i am a man of equality i will say, i can see where the OP and many of you guys are coming from, if he gets in trouble for hunting while intoxicated it will look bad on all of us, but until that happens we should not condemn. Im just trying to drive home two points, look at both sides, and do not judge others, because we hate when people do it to us
  12. What is a good weight for white tail? And what action do you suggest? What is a good price for a .270?
  13. So earlier this year i got my first deer in archery season, well i just got my second. I was hunting for about five days, and the first 3 i didnt see a thing. On the fourth day 45 minutes to sundown i finally caught glimpse of a doe, headed right for me. Now an experienced hunter would have waited till it got close, but that is why i am not an experienced hunter. I got excited with it being my first deer ive seen since i got there, and without even a really good shot i fired off a round, hit a tree, and fired another. Missed, and felt like an idiot, i shouldve waited, but my inpatience and excitement got the best of me. This morning i went back to the same stand, and while looking at the place i fired at that deer, i realised how dumb i was for trying. I was kicking myself pretty bad. While thinking about it i started to doze off, so to wake myself up i took a look around, right over my left shoulder at about 30 yards a couple of doe snuck up behind me. My adrenaline started punmping like no tomorrow, I slowly stood up, and the mother saw me, She kept putting her head up, then down, then up, then down. I kept moving in the 2 or 3 second gaps i had with her head down. I took my gloves off, for some reason i dont shoot right with them on. I picked up my gun and took aim. I remembered the mistake i made last night, and told myself to calm down and count to ten, i butted the gun, beared down on the sights, lined them up and let it fly, got her, followed the other one but no good shot, and went back to the one i hit. I was dissappointed with myself, it was a terrible shot, i backboned her and had to put her out of misery. I got it so it was successfull. I really dont know how i fudged the shot up, im hoping it was a rookie mistake that i will grow out of, but i got the second deer of my life today, so id call it successfull.
  14. Alright, thanks to a lot of you guys on here, and some people ive talked to, i think i wanna go with a .270. Problem is i dont know what make i should buy, what action, what scope to put on it, whats a good price... im new lol. My uncle told me there are a lot of grain options for this gun, whats that mean?
  15. K guys i am pretty sure im lookng for a lever action. I was talking to my uncle and he told me that there are more options for ammo for a .270 than a 7mm, but what about 30.06?
  16. Alright, im pulling one out of the old family recipe book. YOU WILL NEED: -1 Full backstrap -1 Packet of french onion soup (powder) -1 or 2 bottles of barbecue sauce (depending on preference, soupy or thin, and any flavor will do. -1 crock pot PROCEDURE -Thaw your backstrap. -Cut it in half -Trim the silver grissle off of each half -Place backstrap halves in crock pot -Empty packet of french onion soup into crock pot -Add about a cup of water, give or take a 1/4 cup -Turn the crock pot on. Low generally takes 8-10 hours, High usually takes about 6-8 hours on my crock pot -After backstrap halves are thouroughly cooked, remove WITH TONGS from crock pot -Shred the backstrap halves (I have found that placing them on a plate, one at a time, and using two forks to pull it apart is easiest) shred until desired size of pieces is reached, I like mine very stringy -After shredded put shreds into a large bowl -Pour in barbecue sauce and stir. Add BBQ sauce to reach desired thickness -If the tempurature of the barbecue sauce cools the meat, microwave for 30-40 seconds, stir and repeat -Serve on a hamburger bun, best enjoyed with the family, a cold beer, and a good movie ENJOY PEOPLE!

  21. Hey guys, i have a pair of pants that my grandfather gave me. The problem is they are pretty much falling apart. Anyone who has a pair of nice warm pants let me know
  22. Isn't there a law that it has to be set past a certain weight?
  23. After hunting this weekend, my saw my deer and wanted to get involved, so i gave her my cousins bow and said pull this back, it was set at 35 pounds, and she struggled. I didn't want to be mean, but what do i tell her if she wants to hunt but cant really pull back a 35# bow?
  24. Thanks for the input guys. I have a whole year to decide whether or not i will buy a new one. I told myself after i got my first deer I would buy a new bow, i got one yesterday ;D . Also i have always been told that it is our responsibility as hunters to stay updated with the best possible equipment, to reduce the chance of injuring the deer with no kill, problem is, who has the $ to buy new stuff every few years? I don't know exactly what ill do yet. I mean its a Hoyt, at one point it was a great bow, and obviously it kills deer, so who knows maybe ill just keep it and save up for a few years.
