  1. Tbarb, I planted a mix of clover, turnips, and alfalfa last fall and the deer barely touched the turnips. A few tops were chewed off, but the turnips were popping out of the ground and they didn't touch a single one. Fertilized, but didn't lime... why do you think you had such better results? Which brand did you use?
  2. I am going to make the switch to Elite when I can afford to. I shoot a Mathews Z7, which is a great bow, but the draw cycle, "dwell zone" at full draw, and quietness of the Elites is superior. I've pulled back some PSE's that were somewhat uncomfortable to draw. At full draw, I was fighting the jumpy cam. Shoot a few different bows and see which feels most comfortable. Look into the Mission line by Mathews. They are comparable in price and adjustability to the Stinger, and you'll probably like the feel and draw cycles better.
  3. I had someone come to check out my 20 acres. It was a fantastic decision. He walked the property with me, pointed out stuff that I wouldn't know otherwise. It took a while, but he sent me a comprehensive report, dividing the different areas of growth, providing recommendations on whether to clear, log, thin out, etc for each section. I told him my goals (hunting) and he tailored his recommendations to meet my needs. The next step would be to meet with someone from Cornell Cooperative for more about framing and plots, as these guys are primarily foresters. He created a 5 year plan for me, and I am trying to stick to it, as time and money allows. Very informative, helpful, and worth the time. You will need to book way in advance, and they usually come during the spring/summer. Good luck!
  4. I will grunt and/or bleat to turn a buck around that is out of range, otherwise I stay quiet. I am guilty of wasting? money on doe in estrus buck bombs. I don't know if it helps, but I don't think it hurts either. There have been some days where I've used buck bomb and had deer come in, or follow my scent trail, but then again, it might have just been their natural route... Best thing is to be scent free, do your homework and find their feeding spots, bedding area, or travel route. They'll come to you!
  5. What region did you bag him in? That's an incredible deer! Congratulations!
  6. 3s Last weekend, 9:30 a.m. big 8 grunting, chasing does, then branched off with one, came within 50 yds but too many beech trees in the way. Earlier that day, 7ish a small 4 chasing 2 does, nose to the ground, grunting. It was 32* that morning... Lots of scrapes and rubs everywhere
  7. I relisted this stand for $75. Still available as of 11/3
  8. Selling an Ameristep Avenger aluminum hang-on treestand. Asking $75, dropped the price $25. This is an all-aluminum treestand in this condition! The platform measures about 20 in. wide x 29 in. long. It has a very large, very comfortable seat that measures 12 in. deep, 17 in. wide. Seat flips up. The stand is in almost brand new condition. Only used for one season, the seat and strap are in perfect condition. The stand feels like it weighs less than 10 lbs. This stand is identical to the Ameristep Bone Collector Ultra Portable Hang-on and Ameristep Buck Commander Redemption (except for the seat, which on my stand is wider), which Dick's is selling for $179. I just purchased new stands with larger platforms. I need a little more space for comfort than this stand offers. Call or text me if you're interested. I live in Astoria, Queens, but work in Smithtown, and have a place NE of Binghamton, I'll be up there on most of the weekends in November. Victor 917-769-4477 [email protected]
  9. I prefer the Fiskars Pruning Stik because it extends almost 20 feet and has the lopper. It also has the pull strap inside the stick, so you're not getting tangled like other rope-type pruners. I have broken one because I beat them up, but fiskars is awesome with replacement. I have the 10 ft. Hooeyman, which I use in a pinch, or if I find a new spot with the climber and don't want to carry around a 10 ft. pruner. I think the 10 ft would be much more useful than the 5ft. version for the extra $30.
  10. I put traction tape on my summit platform, the 3M stuff available at Home Depot. I believe it is about 2 in. wide, fits perfectly on Summits. No slip and no squeak in the rain.
  11. I am selling my Lone Wolf Alpha Hang on Treestand, $150. All aluminum, weighs only 14 lbs. Self-leveling seat and platform. Platform measures 30"long by 19 in. wide. Weight capacity of 350 lbs. Too small for me, not as comfortable being on small platforms as I used to be. Only used for two seasons, taken down at the end of each season and stored indoors. Straps are in perfect condition, so is seat. Call me or email me if you're interested, I also have one other stand available. 917-769-4477
  12. http://www.seriouspropertymarkers.com/ These are the best posted signs. They are like $1.50 each, but you'll do it once and never do it again. Posted mine 5 years ago, still in perfect condition. You can even have your name inprinted on it. They are out of Upstate NY too. River's Edge has a sick two-man stand http://www.huntriversedge.com/two-man-ladder-stands I haven't seen it or used it, but it looks awesome, large platform. I do use their hang-ons, largest platform available and very reasonable.
