  1. sounds like coyotes to me.....found a doe last weekend that coyotes were eating..
  2. got home last night from my 3 day trip....worst opening trip ever for me.. never saw the woods so quiet. saw nothing opening day. saw 3 small doe 830 on sunday. saw nothing at all on monday. my land is heavily populated with deer. where they were hiding? who knows?? last 4 years i harvested. large doe, 8 pointer, 6 pointer, very large doe on opening day... i have tons of scrapes, rubs and deer track this year. more than i have in years past. i even tried to still hunt late morning yesterday i did not even kick anything up.. if i were bird watching it would of been a banner 3 days. other than that rough weekend. i am hoping this coming weekend with colder weather returning will turn things around. and i am positive it will. on my trip down i passed at least 15 other hunters that i could tell. DID NOT SEE ANY DEER HARVESTED on those vehicles.
  3. some final packing to do...will be leaving 2 am and be in woods by 6 am...might be a little windy saturday afternoon..otherwise weather should be good. nice and crisp..good luck to all....
  4. live on long island & hunt in ulster county..i saw a 8 pointer chasing several does yesterday in connetquot state park suffolk county...not sure if there is any difference between long island or upstate breeding scheduele but can't wait for saturday..
  5. i've been hunting since i was a kid...had my fair share of deer. does, button bucks, spikes, 4pointer never a big buck..last 5 yrs been hunting in ulster county where the antler restriction is in place..wasn't a fan at first but, big fan now.. last 3 yrs. took a 8 pointer, 6 pointer and last year i took a 5 yr old doe she was huge...i did this because property is loaded with doe. for me it is really about the meat and i am yet to find a real good receipe for antlers. now we have a lot of bucks 6 pointers and up in area. with one monster that is somewhere between 10 to 12 points....it does work no doubt....last 5 years has been the best hunting i ever had.... i have seen and learned so much by letting the younger bucks move. i have seen them spar, chase does, grunt, blow weeze, scrape, rub and rattled them in a few times as well. let the the bucks grow on your property and you will see the hunting improve leaps and bounds over the next few years.. good luck to all.
  6. rubbing on pine trees causes this...the pine sap is the reason.
  7. i highly recommend the buck bomb.....i spray my boots as i enter the woods walking to my stand. i also spray a few trees about 3feet off the ground within 50 yards of my stand.. last year took a 5yr old doe. but 2 years prior i took a 6pt and 8 pt...the 8 pointer walked up to the can when i set it off and placed onto a tree stump 20 yards away...last few years i also had several spikes and 2- 4 pointers walk right to me following that scent..hunt in ulster which has the antler restrictions....so they were lucky!!! i hear there is a 10 or 12 pointer running around near me..i hope he likes the buck bomb...can't wait for saturday...good luck to all
