  1. i also counted 15 deer on road kill on thruway heading up.
  2. i was upstate saturday building my ground blind. i had an 8 pointer chasing a doe between me and my stand as i was leaving woods at 12pm. can't wait for this saturday..
  3. I know it is early and they can't get tomorrows weather correct. the early reports are for snow opening day and possibly sunday also. I hope this is correct. that would be perfect and a change from the last few years when it has been too warm. can't wait!!!!!
  4. i hunt in hurley, ny.. 3 times in the past few years i heard the yotes yelping up a storm heading into the woods early morning. really loud to the point i was going to head back to bed but, thankfully decided not to. all 3 years i have seen the most bucks and have taken a 6 and 8 pointer. i had to pass on a few 4 pointers and numerous spikes because of the restrictions. not sure why this is. i assume the yotes get them up and moving. however, i don't see does when the yotes are carrying on. the area i hunt is a buck haven. the bad part it is probably the last year there. property being sold.
  5. i hope it is the same as 2006.. shot an 8 pointer 30 min into opening day. early forecast is a cold front right around opening day. i know they can't predict tomorrows weather correctly but, i hopefully btter than last few years. too warm..can't wait. feel like a little kid waiting for christmas.
  6. i wish this weather coming in... came in last week...
  7. the weather sucked. hunt ulster county. too warm on opening day. steady rain on sunday. saw nothing. late start today because of early storm. in woods by 7am at 9am saw a buck moving thru thickets couldn't get a shot off. worst opening week for me ever. terrible.
  8. i usually air out my clothes for several days. spray down with scent block then pack away in army bag. on opening day spray myself again with scent blocker. then spray my blind with buck bomb. i have had deer walk within 10 yards to my ground blind and they never seemed to scent me. 3 years ago i had a spike buck bed down 10 yards to the west of me. i just watched him. i figured he would know way before i did if another deer would come in. he stood up and starred at wood line behind us. i had a 6 pointer come in behind my stand. it was the first time i really heard a buck grunt as he approached. he approached the spike they sparred and the spike backed down. dropped the 6 pointer at 15 yards. not my biggest deer but, one of my most thrilling hunts.
  9. totally pumped...leaving on friday. sighted shotgun in yesterday. food shopping today. only bummer might be the weather. winds west on saturday should be best day for my stand. becoming east on sunday hope for the best. then supposed to pour with thunderstorms on monday. hopefully will get it done before then. good luck to all.
  10. would sit all day and use all bag of tricks..use estrous scent, bleat, grunt and rattle.... space it out and see what happens..kinda like fishing with a buck lure. if white don't work try yellow, red, green etc..see what works. ya never know.
  11. live on long island. drove upstate to ulster county over weekend to set up blind for rifle season. counted up and down on thruway from hariman to kingston and back to hariman a total of 19 road kills. the biggest looked to be at least an 8 pointer. also saw at least a 4 pointer. couple of spikes the rest appeared to be does. when in woods i wasn't making big noise but, really wasn't trying to be quiet i had 2 does run within 30 to 35 yards from me being chased by a 6 pointer... appears the rut is on!!!!
  12. i have wildview ez-cam...using last 3yrs .. never had a problem. cheap and works great. color pics.
  13. i agree... always wore blaze orange...switched to blaze orange camo.. saw more deer. now wear. blaze orange camo pants w/ bib. ( this way easily seen walking in and out of woods).. in stand ground blind wear camo jacket, mask, and baseball hat but, put orange wool cap on top.. have deer walk within 10 yards on a ground blind never detected.
  14. my experience is that it will only help.. i have yet to see a deer spooked by any type of lure i have used. doe and/or buck lure. i have seen then nose up in the air breathing it in then just moving along. never spooked. i have had them start to grunt and snort/blow a lot.
  15. yes!!!!! you do get stink finger.. wear your gloves..
  16. they work good. first year i used it. a 8 pointer came out of the pines and walked right up to the can. my hunting season was over 30 min into the season. since then i was sold. i have not had that immediate impact since but, i still had it draw in a 6 pointer the following year. since then mostly spikes last couple of years. i spray it all over my ground blind. i have had deer, fox and yotes come right up and never detected me whether it had to do with it i have no idea. i recommend it.
  17. i hunt ulster county...talked to a few locals and they said it has been the worst hunting in years.. they hunt all week... i was up opening weekend and last saturday.. i saw 3 small does and that was day 2....i have a lot of scrapes and rubs throughout property..so they are around... it seems they are doing all the moving at night..i even tried still hunting a few times and kicked up nothing. where in the past i always kick up a few....heard PA opener is so so from reports...my buddy however did get a 12 pointer in PA this morning..
  18. great job geno!!! at least some people had a great season.. it was my worst. congrats
  19. rough opening weekend.. heading back up for the day in the early morning..hopefully my freezer will have venison in it this time tomorrow...good luck to everyone who still hasn't filled out there tags yet.
  20. i have been hunting in a ground blind my entire life.. i have tried the tree stand and i don't like it... it works for me and never had a problem.. i have had deer bed down next to me as close as 5 yards..
