  1. The majoRity of the does do come into estrus the same time so I think that would be the peak. But some come earlier and some come later. My buddy shot a 140 ten point dogging a doe the middle of October this year. Last January I shot a9 pt that came in on a hot doe that was first being chased by a 4 pt. you never know my hunting group saw lots of big boys up on their feet around Halloween to about the 9th with some good chasing also but the majority of the chasing was observed the second and third week of Nov and slowed by thanksgiving. I did observe a nice eight pt and a spike together just feeding on thanksgiving morning. They fed about 75yds from me for 40minutes
  2. Thanks guys. Dont get me wrong im very happy. Especially because i cant get out much. Compared to a couple i laid eyes on opening day hes small. But yes happy
  3. Taken 6:30 am 11/11/12 came in from 100 yds out to challenge a 4pt that was feeding under me but obviously never made it.Not my biggest but happy to get em dont know how many more times I can get out.
  4. Cant figure it out. Anyone know how to post a pic from iphone
  5. Geno I agree man. Hard to believe a 170 eight. By the way yes I did shoot the basket eight. Now If I can figure out how to upload a pic from my cell.
  6. Geno a friend of mine saw it also. He said it scored 171. Haven't been out much myself due to work and the storm pretty much once a week went out yesterday and couldn't resist on a basket eight he came in at 6:30 am just cruising. Haven't seen any chasing but my buddies that have been putting the time in have scored well. Went out this afternoon and only saw a spike pestering a yearling doe. Guess it depends on where your hunting.
  7. I spent a total of nine hours in the tree today and only saw one 4pt at 4;15 My buddy that got the 140 ten last week had another 140 class chasing a doe hard passed him at 7 this morning. What the F$%^ I havent seen anything going on. I saw 7 buck opening day including 3 eights and its been down hill ever since.
  8. Geno it was a ten that went about 145. Although I do have a pic I cannot post it online. It is at a local taxi though.. It was a beautiful mature deer.
  9. I have only been out a couple of times earlier in the season but have a couple of buddies hunting steady. This past weekend seemed to be a spurt of chasing going on. Saturday morning first light one of them arrowed a 145 class ten that came in grunting behind a doe with a fawn, Also spotted on Sunday morning were two eights scent checking some does. Soon as my roof is done I will be out for the next three weeks and will post. Cant shoot em from the couch. Guess it depends on the area you hunt.
  10. John sent you an IM. Yes it is pre Remington. According to the serial number it was manufactured in 2004. Thanks Mike
  11. Im going sell my 45-70 Guide gun. Like new mint condition. Bought it to go bear hunting several years ago and went once. Put apprx two boxes of rounds through it at range. It is powered with a Leupold 3x9 scope. Its literally close to new as u get. I have my eye and mind set on getting a gun I have always wanted so I need to part with this one as I have no need for it. Total package $800.00 or trade for a Ruger 44 carbine International. Thanks Mike
  12. Holy crap. You should have told me. I would have hung it on mall wall for 8yrs. LOL
  13. Thanks guys for the compliments. The story just got better. the buck started looking a little familiar to me today and then when I went to have it butchered it all came to light. I watched the guy butcher the deer. He says to me oh look theres a broad head in it. The broadhead was imbedded in the meat on the outside of the left shoulder on angle downwards. Then we found where it entered behind the right shoulder. we took out the broad head the he found about 5-6 inches of shaft not connected to the broadhead between the shoulders. Now I realize why this deer looked familiar to me. It was my magnum slick trick and a piece of my arrow. I actually arrowed this buck Nov 2 of last season about 400yds from where I shot him yesterday. I watched my arrow tuck in behind his right shoulder and I assumed stuck in his left shoulder because I didnt get a pass through. Two drops of blood and 100yds later no deer. Looked the rest of the season for him to no avail. I am 95 % sure this is the deer from last year. He wanted to be a ten this year but I think with last years injury from my arrow it never happened.Last year he was a bit wider and longer tines but just an eight. I had him on a trail cam and I will see if I could find the pics I printed. The arrow shaft was literally placed perfect if you looked at its entry and exit. It was literally about 8 inches below the spine on the right side and exited the left shoulder but never penetrated the skin to completely exit. By the looks of it I hit the VOID everyone talks about and didnt touch any vitals at all. These animals are made to live. Although there is no real way for me to verify that it was indeed my arrow(same head and shaft as mine) and the deer I arrowed last year, I truly believe it was even though it took me over a year to finally get the buck. Great end to a rough season. Thanks for reading and until next year everyone be well. Mike
  14. oh guess it worked heres another
  15. Cant seem to download the pics .If I can email them to someone Thanks Mike
  16. Here are the pics not the best or biggest but Im happy to get one on 1/30.
  17. Well decided to give it one last shot yesterday afternoon at my favorite ground blind. My buddies were breaking my chops for passing several times on some does this shotgun season. " Come on shoot a doe most of the bucks shed already, they joked as I walked to the blind". I was sitting watching the open field and about 4 o'clock a small yearling doe came running out of the wood line 50 yds next to me and started feeding. Thought to myself that was odd the way she came out and laughed as I thought it would be great if that was a buck that pushed her. Next thing I see this huge body coming through the laurel and finally with nose to the ground this 4pt came out he went right up her a@# and started pushing her all around. I sat there for fifteen minutes watching this buck stick with this doe while feeding. I text my buddy to what was happening as I could not believe this doe was coming into or already in heat? I know it happens sometimes but never seen it this late in January. Next thing I know my cell rings and my buddy tells me come on shoot it. Now they are about 100yds out and I decided since I never shot a deer at that distance with my muzzy, I decided to take him. I have been doing this a long time and as I scoped him I decided to give a last look around figuring there might be another buck around if she is in fact in heat. As I looked into the laurel where they came from I caught a glimpse of an antler 50-60yds away. I put the gun up to scope him and prayed he had both antlers and I was shocked when I saw he did. Now the heart starts pounding because of the laurel I didnt think a shot was going to happen. Now the buck decides to move head to the ground grunting and trotting right at me. Put the scope on his chest and when he hit the 30 yd mark I pulled the trigger and the Triumph did the job as he hit the ground got up on a death run into the laurel and out of sight. Sat until my buddies finished there hunt and by the time we met up it was dark. They kept asking me did it have both antlers and I said yes because I know what I saw. Well the deer piled up 40 yds from where I shot him and as we looked I said holy crap only one antler. Well I know I saw two but now Im second guessing myself as my buddies started back tracking to where I shot him. Seconds later they say We got it. Thank you Lord Im not crazy. It turned out to be a nice 9pt, although not the biggest buck Ive taken but truly it will be one of the most memorable just because I had no expectations of taking a buck that day let alone see two. Didnt take any good pics last night but will take a few in the back of my truck and post them. What a great way to end a long season. Thanks for reading Mike
  18. Virgil no not standby I hunt on private property through a friend(luckily). Sat today had all intentions of taking a doe and nothing came in for a shot but there is always tomorrow. Friend shot a small shed buck. Today my buddy was checking in a doe from yesterday at the ridge check station and an older chap was there with a huge non typical. Has anyone heard anything about it?
  19. Yes those statements are false. Someone asked a simple question about an auction and instead of just letting someone answer who might know what they are talking about you made statements that you know nothing about. So again dont ASSUME.
  20. Was out yesterday and didnt see a deer until after four then it started. I was hunting with 3 buddies and we were covering half the property. I passed up several doe as I have been holding off at least for a few days for a buck. One of the buddies shot two doe, the other shot a half of eight(?ouch) and then passed up a four pt. The last buddy passed on a six (both antlers) and also a mom and fawn. So it was a very successful afternoon. I am basically not sitting till after 3:30 as everything seems to be moving late. Funny thing I hunted a ground blind yesterday and the way it was set up on the side of a hill I didnt bother to open up the windows on that side and guess what "yes they came on that side" I heard something and opened the zipper about four inches to peak out to see a doe literally 7-8 ft from the blind looking me in the eye. They eventually made their way in front of me but chose to let em walk.
