Geno you should tell your Suffolk friends (Bull#$%^) and if it is true they shouldnt go around telling you because you come on here and make statements that could get them in serious trouble. Its fair to say your basing your comments on what you hear. You say you have heard of cops that confiscate things and sell them on the side.If thats true its called "corruption" and they arent police officers they're criminals. I hope they're not your friends and family. Years ago it was different and your probably right to a point but now that shit dont fly. Most police departments when they have their auctions now the police officers arent allowed to attend. Bottom line this is how rumors get started and no one should ASSUME because we know what happens then. Im not attacking you personally and hope you dont get that impression but if you havent figured it out yet, I had 20 yrs with the Police Dept. and retired at age 41 and I am very proud of what I did and still consider myself a cop because you never lose it and if what you say is true it hurts me because the 99.9 percent of the great cops out their get a bad name from pieces of crap who are corrupt. No Police Dept stands for corruption anymore. Good hunting buddy.

Its funny I brought my TC Bone collector yesterday and all the deer came out within fifteen yds of my stand Go figure. Let them all walk in hopes of horns but that will only happen for the first few days then its tag filling time.

Geno that is so far from the truth my friend.

That was great. I too fell for it one year with high expectations from all the lies. I mainly wanted it for shotgun. Best was I took a nice buck on a private farm in the hamptons that I bowhunted( a friends) the same year I joined the club. Stopped by the club with the deer and wondered why Mr Club owner wanted a pic. Well that same year I got a call from a friend of mine who was at an outdoor show and told me my pic with the deer I shot was in the Pheasant Run booth. I laughed as my buddy approached Mr. Club owner and said " that deer wasnt shot on your property thats my friend he took that on a farm in the hamptons" at that point Mr Club owner whispered Shhhhh and smiled. Made me wonder where all the bucks in the clubhouse photos have been taken.

Went out yesterday afternoon and saw nothing but my buddy shot a young basket eight. Great deer for end of Dec. he shot him a little after 4.

I wouldnt call the DEC I would just take my chances and get it without saying a word. Chances are they wouldnt give you a problem but you may get the wrong guy.

You guys are good. Thanks again

Bubba and g-man, guys that is exactly why Im switching. Bubba did the hot soapy water thing when I got home and seemed to work great. And the hoppes and oil thing seems to work well because thats all my buddy uses and like I said is barrel was clean as a babies A#$. Thanks guys will give it a shot. Do you think it will change my shot pattern drastically from switching from 100 grns shockey sticks to 100 grns BH 209?
-
I clean he barrel with bore cleaning solvent and was using bore butter but since changed to a light coat of oil because thats what he does. Then run a dry patch before the hunt.

I have been using Jim Shockeys Powder sticks for the last two seasons in my T/C Bone Collector. I was told as a newbie its a clean burning and being new to Muzzleloaders just continued using it. Well after a recent whitetail hunt to Ontario with buddies I think Im switching to Blackhorn 209. A buddy of mine was using it and it definitely smokes less and is much easier to clean. His barrel was so much cleaner after running a patch through it. After I shot one round mine was dirtier than after 4 rounds through his.I forgot mention he was shooting the triumph which is the same gun. Also another observation was after coming out of the woods from the hunt we would unload every night and my barrel was always dirtier than his and I had some what appeared brown(rust?) coming out of the barrel. Could there be an issue with my barrel? Mike

Looking for Hunting lease Cortland County
retired2hunt replied to cnyhunter's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
you should come to LI. the bull crap that goes on here is worse than anywhere in the state. Very few respectful hunters here. They all think because it aint posted its open game. I am fortunate enough to have some rights to exclusive places here and we have had all my stands and cameras stolen this year. Thankfully we use the cheap dicks lock ons that we purchase for thirty bucks. But the point is I feel your pain but the idiots even give you problems on private land. Good luck on your search finding a small 50 acre piece to lease is tough, most properties are larger. Check the real estate offices up in that area. They usually have listings. -

Never owned a Summit but tried a friends Summit Viper. It seemed to be around the same weight but you could probably check the website for exact weight. It is for sure quieter than the summit. WNY if your serious Im sure we can work something out with the shipping. -

retired2hunt replied to retired2hunt's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Sorry I literally planned on using it but we put up all loc-ons and I am just downright lazy now. I literally used it maybe 4 times in the last three years. Bought it 4yrs ago and used it a bunch the first season and loved it. By far the quietest stand out there.I was just looking to get it to someone that will use it so I posted it. If it dont sell I'll keep it no biggie. Thanks for looking Mike -

Went out for the first time this season to my prime number one spot where I arrowed two nice deer last year only to find my stand stolen. This is private property and I sought of have an idea who took it but no proof. Anyway being totally pissed I ended up sitting in a spot I arrowed a buck a couple of years ago. Got in late but ten minutes later four does on me feeding through. I had deer around me from then on seeing a total of 13 doe and one small tiny basket eight. Kept hoping for the good one to come in but never happened. Still a great time salvaging the day. Things look promising I HOPE.

Hunted yesterday a saw only one small doe.Hunted from 2-dark but the funny thing was driving around an hour earlier and there were deer everywhere up feeding in the fields on peoples lawns.I think with the overcast skies predicted snow flurries and the cold snap they were feeding early. A buddy of mine did see a nice eight bumping does in the am sit. My best buck to date was taken Dec 3 2004 and he was up on his feet at 8:45 am cruising. I think this time of year you really need to be lucky.Hunt the food sources and hope you have a doe that wasnt bred on her second cycle come by you. Heck last year hunting the first week of shotgun season I shot a decent 7Pt. that came into the field at 3:30 and started scent checking and bumping the eight doe around till I dropped him. I assume most of the does come into heat around the same time but you always have exceptions either early or late. I guess thats good because otherwise it would only be worth hunting the first few days of opening week and the peak of the rut.

Long Island Gun Season got my drawing number
retired2hunt replied to longislandhunter's topic in Deer Hunting
The state has a lottery system you enter usually the dead line is the first week of Dec. if they draw your tag you get to shotgun hunt one day during the shotgun season on the state properties unless of course you have written permission to hunt a private piece 10 acres or more then you get the town permit. -
Doesnt the parklands open up Nov 1? Thats how it used to be a few years back.
-
Karpteach Its a great idea but unfortunately there are hunters on every square inch of private land especially the farms out east. If you just look in the woods there are tree stands everywhere on every farm. I would say every farm has hunters on them. The ones that open their arms to you open there arms to everyone that asks. The problem is youll find out your not the only one hunting it come opening morning. Then theres the nuisance permits.Good luck in your venture and heck if you find the right peice I'll fork over some cash with you.

Just what I wanted to here a big deer up on his feet in the day light and at 3:15 pm

Heading back this weekend... Any idea how it will be?
retired2hunt replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
If you read on many of the hunting sites you can take a poll and most of the success seemed to be around the second and third week of Nov. That would mean most of the bucks were doing their thing searching and chasing for does in heat. With that being said any of the does that werent bred will cycle again 30 days later. So the movement should start anytime now and the big boys should be on their feet soon if not already.
