Some pretty nice racks there any of those from public land?

Well I can tell you this when I am 2, 3 miles in the woods someplace . I don't get as excited about having to drag a deer out of there by myself anymore like was the case when that happened. Do you understand now . Because I have Done that before and that part is not fun . And you remember it .

I was just thinking to my self reading these posts if I took those type shots I would probably double the amount of deer I would have killed over my life . I can't count the number of times I have kicked up deer in brush and all you see is there back end running away . And I just let them . that happens more times then I care to remember.

Yea don't no if I will ever take that type of shot one time I kicked up a nice 8 in some thick brush literally 10 yards from me and i hesitated to pull the trigger and he got out of site . I was not expecting it it's amazing how they can run through that thick stuff like that. I hunt for the thrill of the chase more then anything to be honest once you shoot a few of them and get older you think differently you get some or you don't no big deal to me any more I have a good time either way .

Good point if you are a little high in your shot that would probably hit the neck and that is a dead deer .

Yea that's what I was thinking it's going to really do alot of damage at close range with a 2800 foot pound energy rifle cartridge and die pretty fast as well .

I don't no just thinking about this a little more if the 220 class deer was really close like 20 30 yards away and I new for sure there was no danger of hitting anything else besides that deer and the deer was moving slowly away not at full speed I may try to spine it . But I'm not sure I am always cautious when I pull the trigger and take my time and think about what I'm doing so chances are the deer would be out of range by the time i decided to do anything. It's one of those things you don't know exactly till it happens to you I guess .

Yea I like bow hunting for that reason as well . People can be trigger happy and even a crossbow cocked is just like a gun it's to easy for someone to just pull the trigger at anything that moves . ThatS also why I try to hunt on weekdays and avoid weekends if I can.

Was that with the shotgun or rifle ?

If you want to hunt giant rack deer you need to go to counties that have all farmland. ItS good food that makes them get big like that . Other places may have lots of deer but not those big racks and also gentics they have both in western ny

The same can be said of people seeing guys take 500 yard shots with rifles so what's your point ? Or 100 yard shots with a bow ? I can hit a plate size target every time at 70 yards with my smoothbore. It's more then I need why do you think many parks and parts of the country want you using only shotguns if they were so bad inhumane no park would let you use them obviously . Btw law inforcement use them to. So the thing about bad acuracy is overblown. You don't need sub 1 inch group to kill a deer besides every hunter needs to test the capabilities of their gun and skills before they use them in the field that should be obvious. Who hunts with out first testing out there gun for acuracy first . Just common sense . If you cant hit a target at 70 yards don't hunt at 70 yards that simple . Be it shotgun hand gun rifle or what ever you plan on using . You have to test out you equipment first.

Never been there just looked at the Google Earth pics it's a long thin park surrounded by farm land on all sides probably any big deer there are coming from the farm lands around it .
