  1. Two more shots. Still five minutes to sunrise. I hope they are putting a hurting on the yotes they are hunting. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  2. I wish it was turkey season. Have a few toms gobbling to the sun about 50 yds away. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  3. First time hunting opener on public land for me. Wow. Just a wee bit crowded. First shot at 615. Finally found an access point without any cars parked at it. Post over what I hope are some escape routes. Good luck and stay safe. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  4. K. Good luck with the search. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  5. That is a bummer. I think you are SENY but I forget where. If you are in putnam county, happy to give you a hand on the search. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  6. Hit the close of archery for a short evening sit after work. Found a nice set of fresh scrapes. Some dude blew a trail for about two miles on public land to get back there. Was amazed at the effort he put in. Ended the season fittingly seeing nothing. The most brutal early season for me since my first season. Really miss the old private honey hole that I had and tons of lessons learned. Off to regular season tomorrow. Have a few gun spots scouted out and hopeful the season changes the luck. Congrats to all that connected this season. Some great deer get me inspired to keep going after it. Good luck and safe hunting to all headed out tomorrow. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  7. Out in 3g. Warmer in the 40s, clear skies light wind out of sse. Sitting for a bit till work. Good luck to all out there. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  8. Live from metro north. Wrapped up a board meeting in the city. Hopeful to head out tomorrow to wrap up what has been a frustrating archery season. Off thanksgiving week and vacation plans were covid cancelled so looks like I get to spend some more time in the woods than planned. The city is deader than a doornail. Very sad to see. @Biz-R-OWorld the place I think you bought beer at is all closed up. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  9. Post how it turns out. I have thought about it but thought deer fat was too waxy to be of palatable use. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  10. Out in 3g to same conditions. Pushed one on walk in. First snow of year for me. Made the walk in extra crunchy. Good luck. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  11. I wouldn't be surprised. I am seeing some from red oaks, but they are tiiiiny. Not even much squirrel activity hitting them. I think the other part frankly, in suburbia they go where there is no pressure. They have learned they are safe seeing us in our yards but not in the woods. Your dad having any luck? 12. Headed in to public in 3g for a quick sit before work today. Cold and quiet. Doe came in calmy from an unexpected direction, milled around and then caught my wind. She bounded off but didn't look too freaked out. Think I have a potential spot to sit in the PM if I can get out from work early. My uncle in middletown sent me this photo this am from his backyard. Also has a video of a doe on his deck drinking pool water. I had a button trying to mount a doe on the backyard yesterday (might have even been his mom). I think I am wasting my time in the woods and need to find a big estate that will let me hunt from their deck. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  13. Retired coworker of mine was in Rockefeller State park. Looks like breeding has started there. I am not very familiar with the park, but since he walked right up to this pair, I can't imagine it gets much pressure if hunting is even allowed. Crazy. Guy doesn't hunt and sent me this to break my chops about how easy it must be. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  14. I wish I ran cameras so at least I would know there was something worth chasing. Good luck to you. At some point one of them will slip up. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  15. Yeah 3* regions sound pretty crappy all around, particularly east of Hudson. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  16. Back from the am hunt. Phone battery was low. In public at 3g in the dark this AM. Already a car in the lot. Sat same spot I saw action this am. Completely dead, not even tree rats. On the walk out ran into another guy whose truck I see a bunch at the same spots. Very nice guy. He is having the same experience as me. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse. Gonna take a quick snooze and watch some of the giants. Depending how that game goes and the weather, might head out again in the PM Congrats to all that connected and good luck to all that are still chasing. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  17. Sometimes I wish time travel was possible. I never would have asked that one crazy girl out freshman year in college and my car wouldn't have gotten keyed. I would have told myself I didn't need that last shot of jaeger. I would have avoided Tijuana altogether. And I would have told myself at 730 am that all the action for the day was done and you can go home back to bed. In oh dark thirty this am over sign I found yesterday. Pushed one on the walk in. Movement in the brush in the dark. Had a few does as legal approached slowly meandering. Saw a body making its way towards me in the cover. Either it caught my scent (doubtful given wind) or the coyote that unbeknownst to me was approaching spooked it and it bounded off. Was either a big doe or a buck, never saw its head. And that was it. Yote was beautiful. Trying again tomorrow before rain comes through. Congrats to all that connected and good luck to those still chasing. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  18. Finally found some sign. Went out for a short scout/sit post rain on 3g public. Found a flat of red oaks with a few fresh scrapes.a small fresh rub line and some saplings worked over good. Doesn't look crazy but it's the first sign I have seen this season around me. Packing lunch and a good book for a dark to dark tomorrow. Still have yet to see any chasing or daytime deer movement in peoples yards. Congrats to all who scored and good luck to those still chasing. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  19. Still very slow for me. Hunted AMs till 10 Sat and Sun at a new to me public spot and PMs at different public spots. All in 3g. High point was see a beautiful yote at about 60 yards Saturday AM. Low point was zero deer sightings during daylight. Had a few in the dark this AM that scooted on my entrance. Not too bad and no blowing so I hoped I would see them meander through but no luck. Met two nice guys from queens at the public spot last night who had the same luck I did. I am giving it a few days off at the start of the week. Need to head into the city to prepare for a mid month board meeting. Hopefully with the moon waning action picks up for me leading into next weekend. The only thing that is keeping me going right now is the awesome deer that have hit the ground over the last few days. Congrats to everyone that connected and good luck to all still going out there. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  20. Only action during the evening sit was a young woman who lost her way off the trail. Seeing she was clearly lost, I took off the facemask, called to her and scared the daylights out of her. Pointed her back the right way to the trail for which she was very appreciative. Fortunately for her, I punched my last tag for her species about 25 years ago. New public spot seems a little better. No action during legal, but heard some movement in the brush as dark fell and kicked up something on the hike back. Be back at it tomorrow. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  21. Hail mary full of grace.... Trying a new public spot for a change of pace. Overlooking a hollow between two oak ridges. Hoping something tries to cool off in the valley before some munchies. Don't know this spot for deer, but I scored a tom in the same spot last spring. Not really in a great position to shoot from, but good vantage for an observation sit. Good luck to all. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  22. Out this am early and forgot phone at home. Beautiful red dawn sunrise. No action at all except some squirrels. Looks like does had hit acorns overnight with a lot of fresh leaves turned up. No fresh rubs or scrapes found. Spot looks promising. Need to scout a little, probably in offseason, to find out where they are bedding. Home for quick lunch maybe a snooze and out to new public land to change up for the luck for the evening. Congrats to those that scored and good luck to all. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  23. Appreciate it. That's why I may be changing locale a bit to see if that has any benefit. Can't be any worse is my logic. Good luck out there. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  24. Sat till dark on a ridgeline with oak overlooking a swamp and bedding. Nada. My heart skipped a few times at some leaves crunching only to reveal a tree rat. Hiked back to the parking lot and what was empty at 1 was packed by dark. Hunting pressure is picking up. I won't say depressing but frustrating season so far. I thought EHD was blown out of proportion but wondering if it had a significant impact on the local herd. Sign, sightings and movement all down over prior years. Still great to be out in the woods. Giving another shot in the am and then finding different public to start some hail marys on. Good luck to all out there. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  25. In about 30 mins ago. Winds light out of NW. Crazy temperature differences. Cold air and fog at the parking lot in the valley. Probably ten degrees warmer and clear on the ridgeline I am on. Here till about 8 then will scout a little for a PM spot. Good luck to all. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
