26lbs is a giant turkey! Congrats to the A team!!!

I have lost count of how many gobblers I’ve killed and have weighed all but a few on an antique grain scale and have killed one that was a hair over 24 and many in the 19-20 range but 26 is an absolute once in a lifetime trophy in my experience!!

I've had my hands on hundreds of dead gobblers over the past 30+ yrs and all get weighed on some certified meat hanging scales at my family butcher shop. Only a handful have cracked the 23 mark with the family record hitting 23.5...many 21-22 pounders though. A true 26 pounder would be crazy!

PS: There has never been a 200# dressed deer weighed here either. Many so called 200 pounders have dropped to 175 after actually being weighed...lol

  2. Just found out that a neighbor's kid found one side off of the buck that my biggest of the year belonged to as well. I knew how sheds would be in this area with all the standing corn iver the winter. He found it really close to a stand that I never hunted last fall. My side was picked up nearly 2 miles from his...

#24 Actually shed hunted this property pretty thoroughly and knew I had overlooked this little goldenrod filled pipeline. Snuck through it to do a mid morning call, run and gun. Turns out it's not a match to any of the others from this property. Turkey Season continues, apparently shed season is still happening also.

Nice. My eyes are always looking for them when I'm out and about.

With 1 more day before turks I'm wrapping up shed season. Honey-do list tomorrow. It's possible I'll find a couple chasing turkeys but I'm done with the bone only adventures! 19 keepers including 3 pairs and some trash gets me 23 total since January 1. It was a fortunate year for me. I enjoyed it, and I walked Just over 100 miles. Half of these were from public land which is probably why I'm averaging 1 shed per every 5 miles.... I will try my best to hunt these public land deer in early October.

Nice haul, that's alot of miles on the boots!

  5. Hit up the last spot I wanted to walk. It was a little disappointing that I only found one little one but it's been a great shed season. I really wasn't expecting to find the numbers that I did. Hopefully I'll pick up a couple more during turkey season in my travels.

Just send me the coordinates, I will go get it..lol

If I knew you wanted them I would have saved all the little deadheads that I came across this year... lol

Was there a smaller dead head behind the shed?

As a matter of fact there was. A really cool looking palmated six-point. It was too stink to stick in my backpack or carry around though.

Took the Mrs with me yesterday at my buddy’s place . Walk a bunch of trails , lots of sign . She said in all seriousness,” they should be laying all over the place .” Lol .

I said that’s only in Steuben county ….

Just picked #60 for the season...really heavy 4pt side that scored 60-3. A great one to end on. That's it. I'm done!

*Disclaimer: these sheds were not found on two or three well-managed farms. They were the result of well over a hundred miles of walking of many properties, several that I only got permission on for the very first time this year.

They look great! I'm waiting for my bow and gun buck from last year. DJ has them. I won't bother him like you he is busy. When they are done is fine with me.

    Was just there last week.

Thanks. I've got to mount a 170 net booner for this guy now (#2 typical bowkill for NYS in 2020)...full floor pedestal mount.

  12. Got home from work this afternoon and the power was out and I was the only one home so I decided to go for a quick turkey scouting/shed hunting trip on this hillside I haven't checked very much. Got lucky enough to stumble on the number 58 before the snow started. Think it's a match to one I found a weeks ago...

Does that deer daylight much? I find mature bucks don't do much daylight movement near us. I think you have to sneak into prime bedding to see daylight movement. Tricky animals.

One of my cousins was getting a lot of daylight pictures of him towards  mid to late September this past year. He must have been really close to his bedding area cuz he was getting like 4:30 in the afternoon

I'm in cny and we have plenty of deer to go around. May be not quite the same as wny but pretty good hunting here.

Tompkins County certainly produces it's share of quality bucks. You probably have a higher density deer herd than I have in my area in Steuben County. I actually headed out to the Ithaca area to work again today. I always keep my eyes open for road sheds on the way out. The people out that way, well that's a different story all together...

Hoping this guy doesn't go downhill as he's obviously fully mature here last fall...

That's a brute. Let me ask you opinion, do you count deadheads in your count? If so is it for each antler? What do you do with the deadheads if you don't cut the antlers off?

No, I don't count them. I bring them home if they're decent but leave all the little ones out in the woods where I found them.

  17. Back out today, looking to end it with something big. I got permission this morning from a landowner that just got home from his winter leave...

Found 3 more, including my two biggest of the spring and new all time largest shed. Unfortunately, that one was from last year...not too chewed up. Scores 69.5, even with chewed up tine tips, beam tip and broken brow.  The G2 was 12.25 inches. He was probably around 165 or a little better as a 10pt in 2020 and probably close to 170 in '21. He made it through season again but no luck on this year's sheds. This antler was found about 2 miles from where the trail camera pictures were taken on family property.
