Here is where our taxes go for Education
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Geno, this came from an editorial in Newsday which shocked me too. The teachers benefits are guaranteed by the state and we have to pay for it, even if they lose it all in the stock market. Who gave the state this authority with our tax dollars??? -

What makes me crazy is the fact that investing in the stock market is a form of gambeling. And that the tax payers have to pay for the gambeling loses of the Teachers Union or any other funds the state has invested in the market. Totally insane... -

Sits I wish it worked that way but unfortunately it doesn't. Remember in 2008 when the markets took a nose dive and all our 401K plans and stockes dropped. Well that hurt the average Joe but not the teachers retirement fund. Because of state laws that say the teachers contracte have to be honored no matter what happens to the economy. So when the funds in the teachers retirement system went down like everyone elses it didn't hurt the teachers one bit. Their loses have to be paid by the tax payers. Where our loses are just that our loses and no one makes up the difference in our loses. I had some of my coworkers ready to retire and when the market dropped they stayed on another 3 years till they could recoup some of their loses. So not only do we pay their salaries, retirement and health benefits we also pay to cover their loses in the stock market. We lose no matter how you look at it, we are on the hook to pay for these free loaders. Only way to save your hard earned money is to move out of state. -

Geno, I hear you and feel the same way. I am retired in Nassau County and pay school taxes and have no children in the school system. But also have a house up state which I have to also pay school taxes. I don't think we should be required to pay school taxes twice. I remember you recently bought land up state soon you will be in the same boat. -

You posts are more bluster than bite. Total nonsense and a waste of the members time even reading your posts. Like all your comments they take some liberal path, which you always do. Just to go against the flow and then show how misinformed you really are which I always expect of you. You never dissapoint.!!!!!!! No matter what the topic. -

One thing you didn't mention is that you also have to pay school taxes to the school district you live in ,plus the cost of sending your kid to private school.Your argument that teachers have to put up with bad attitudes and behavior doesn't hold any water. In the real world the parents experience this every day and most have no union, pension or health care being paid for by the taxpayers. Get your head out of your A--. See things as they really are, not in your dream world. -

How do you condone a $300 a month increase in school taxes. Not $300 a year but a month????On homeowners on fixed incomes, I vote the budget down every year, and every year it passes. As far as a teacher working 30 years for a pension that is bunk. with all the time off it's more like 20 years in real time on the job. Why is the school budget like some sacred cow? Because the teachers use the children as pawns. How unethical just to pass a budget to increase their salaries and benefits. -

Dave replied to Dave's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Everything that has been said is totally ture. On Long Island most of the teachers live in the school disrtict so they will always vote for the school budget. Total conspiracy to keep the system going, you vote for me and I will give you the raises you want simple as that. In the past two years my school taxes have risen over $300 a month, for what? Salary and benefits for the teachers. I am retired and once the housing market picks up if it ever does I am moving. Never anticipated an increase of $300 a month in school taxes when I retired. And had nothing to say about it , like taxation with out representation. What makes me crazy is people and politicians are on TV complaining if your electric and gas bill goes up a few dollars a month. Where are they when your school taxes go up $300 a month? At least you get something from your utility company, what do you get from the school district but more taxes and no accountability. And this idiot president tells us we have to pay our fair share. Spoken like a true community organizer. Vote them all out of office. -

Ok, lets quit the BS a pay freeze my but. Even though you may have had a pay freeze you still got step increases so your salaries went up every year. A little know fact that most people don't have any idea of. I guess you don't work only 180 days and have your summers off!!!!!!! Just cut the BS, and stop trying to make like you have the toughtst job around. Funny how children in other states with less resources can score just as high as the LI kids can. My ex is a teacher on the Island I know the deal and" how sweet it is" if you are looking for sympathy, as my father would say, it's in the dictionary between shit and sweat. Really, I will say something you have gaull. -

Tell that to the NYPD officer who was shot in the head in Brooklyn on Jan 31, 2012. Tell his family he didn't risk his life. it's a mirical he is alive. And he doesn't make anything close to $100,000 base pay. Also tell the detective who was shot in the subway, that he didn't risk his life. What a stupid remark to make , you can't compare the contributions the Police make to the teachers. Police don't work 180 days and have the summer off, they work off hours and holidays. No one is going to come to their house in the middle of the night and tell their family that a teacher was shot. But a cop's family deals with this reality everyday. -

What we chose to do with our money is our business, no matter what we spend it on. But as far as the school budget goes we have no control over how much they raise our taxes. We have no choice!!!!!!! But to pay for salaries and benefit of teachers making over $100,000 in my area , many are there less than 30 of service. And make much more than $100,000 a year, how much is enough??????? -

I think BO make you safer than if you don't wear it. I hunt private property and wear camo most of the time there are exceptions where it would safer to wear BO than not. when I do a singular drive to push deer to sitter I always wear BO or that Reflertive bright green. Also still hunting, going into my stand on my quad and coming out on my quad I also wear BO or Green. But this is just common sense and I don't think it should be mandatory just like you can't make common sense mandatory. -
Bought a 2001 Kawasaki 220 Bayou off craighs list it was in perfect condition. Shaft not belt driven. But had to drive to Conn. to get it worth the drive. Everything was like new and the price was right. Have two others that ate 1996 and still runing great, just replaced a few batteries and the floats on one of the carborators. Fire right up every year. They sit from Dec to April and never had any problems. Mainly use them for hunting and riding on the logging trails. Have a wagon that I attach, that I use to bring in fire wood. Mainly just cut blowdowns alwasy plenty so I don't cut down trees. Just the ones mother nature knocks down.

Yes, anyone who hunts shouldn't shoot unless they know exactly what they are shooting at and beyond. Basic hunting 101. Can't legislate common sense. -

You could always take the BO coat and hang it on something where you are field dressing the deer.JMHO -
Karp, I think that they are responding to the teachers on Long Island not NYC. I don't know any teachers who quit in the first 3 years unless they didn't get tenure. Once they do ,they are there till they retire with a salary and pension much greater than the NYC teachers. Not all school systems are equal the same can be said for the police in Nassau and Suffolk county's compared to the NYPD.
