  1. That one your probably onto something, that’s neighbors cam, he may or may not have let some fall out of the combine lol (his business not mine).. but the point of the story is let em grow and the bigger deer will show up. By the way the one in background was taken on my side of the hill last year..
  2. If only he could tell the difference between corn and bluestone he’d be onto me.. lol
  3. Way to accuse, but your a bit off on that my friend, apology accepted.
  4. That’s the way to do it if your looking for the “big boy”. Nice buck, good luck, at the end of the day, don’t need the state to tell you what to do, take matters in your own hands, the deer that have potential let them pass and procreate... the good genes on my hill are there because we let them stay there not killing them off. love sharing trail pics here’s my case and point as well:
  5. If he responds to you, tell him thanks from me. You know, for giving me a lesson on why there is a three inch rule for an antler. And that is how I know I’m looking at a buck. Fascinating!
  6. He (wilderness) hasn’t responded to me... I guess he realized wrong Forrest and definitely wrong tree he was barking at.
  7. Solar battery charger with cigarette plug.... read all day
  8. The dog takes priority in this, if it tracks passed a property line , he absolutely can stay with the dog.. it’s proper to ask neighbor first but if unavailable doesn’t mean you don’t go track a dying deer. They can’t track unless they call in first. at least thisis how it was explained to me
  9. Call a k9 to search, they are all over the state. We used one last year and I learned a lot and they are so helpful. Costs nothing to do it and no need for blood, the dog tracks the scent from foot glands. Best part is he calls in to DEC and can track into neighbors property, if anyone calls in to report poachers they already know who it is. its worth the try, you shot it, you should find it
  10. Sasquatch poached? And then molested a child because of a bait pile of corn? And it was all witnessed by a chicken flying a drone from a swimming pool deck with a high expensive fence? Got it!
  11. But rule number one... Sasquatch never squeals on Sasquatch
  12. There’s professionals that get paid for conservation, I’ll let them do what they do. But since you asked here’s my answer: i hunt for my personal reasons, and because I’m allowed to do so. I love everything about deer, especially the way they look so if I’m going to hunt, I want to remember every second of that day by looking at the mount and telling the story.
  13. I see the 2 on the left are same buck, but are you sure the one on the right is the same as the prior year? Only asking cause brow tine on his left has a peculiar curve that’s not present on the other picture same with overall curvature of his antlers. good genes on that property either way, good luck
  14. Nice buck, go get him, my guess would be 2.5 - 3, I’ve noticed that the white nose and neck start to fade as they get older, not as pronounced. He looks like he’s swelling up, good sign to see he’s ready to go. good luck getting him
  15. The three inch rule? Helps identify what? sorry, but you get a yearling spike? that qualifies for a buck (according to the rules.. yes) and if that’s what you wanted to hunt I’m at peace with that. please don’t try to justify that taking the yearling spike helped manage the population ratio or for conservation purposes. That’s my personal opinion but good luck, I guess that’s why there’s different people with different reasons for doing what they do
  16. This thread really lost its origin ... lol
  17. Exactly my thoughts... stop wasting law enforcements time, they have much more egregious violations to go after... handle this yourself , go talk to him, and if he tells you to pound sand... pound sand. Don’t bring the farmer into your mess that you plan on making for everyone. you better hope everything you do is on the up and up afterwards. DEC doesn’t only make stops at his place after, they’ll be there for every shot you take also.
  18. I’m not criticizing anyone at all, I want everyone to enjoy their hunt. I was ok with the neighbor shooting whatever he wanted, don’t think he was looking to decorate his wall anyway, I understand that. but for some hunters that are looking for the wall hanger...its amazing how people adapt to hunting after they shoot their first wall hanger... shoot a big guy, and next year you will strive to do better or at least a comparable one... but you’ll think twice about taking that 5 pointer next year.
  19. You said it best... you have to do your part. age is a great way to go but reason why I go with points is because NOBODY, is going to let a 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 year old 10 pointer walk on by. Sure he might grow next year but boy does that take a lot of discipline. He may also not grow and be a nice 8 next year. Tough decision. like you said, do your part, but don’t not do anything.
  20. I strictly enforce a 8+ rule on a 100 acre property that I hunt now, and as crazy as it may sound, I’m going to raise again and not allow small 8’s to be taken. I don’t expect everyone to comply, and certainly not expecting the neighbors to understand the methodology but it’s worth a shot. if you want to fill the freezer, take a doe.. if it’s worth the $500 to put on the wall, take the buck, but don’t shoot a buck unless it goes on the wall. whos with me on this ?
  21. I know this may seem like an impossible task, but raise your limit to 8 or better , or 4 points to one side. i had a similar issue on a 48 acre land I hunted that the neighbors would “high five” after shooting a 4 pointer I just let pass.. it’s frustrating , I know! after talking to the other neighbors it seemed that Some were on the same page with me. Now I understand if it’s someomes first deer or a young hunter, but if you even get 1 hunter to be on board it could yield results. it took two LONG years, but we started getting big 8’s, 10’s and an 11 by the third year. The big guys are out there, they need a chance to grow, they don’t get big by being dumb, they know where to walk and when it’s safe. good luck
