  1. Hey everyone. With everyone in lock down mode, i'm sure most of you are spending your time watching hunting videos, or thinking about this upcoming spring turkey season. To get you pumped up for the upcoming spring season, I've attached 1 of my YouTube videos from last spring! Now this hunt isn't in NY. This hunt was on the opening morning of the Pennsylvania season. The exciting thing about this hunt is this was the first turkey that i've ever shot with a bow! Something that i've always wanted to do! This is also a two part episode to my PA season, so be sure to watch them both!. Hope ya'll like the video, and that ya'll watch the rest of the videos on my channel! There's also some great whitetail hunting videos as well! After you watch the videos, if you like what you see, would you please subscribe to my YouTube channel and share it with your hunting buddies!? I'm trying to build this channel up and actually make something of it! It would be greatly appreciated! Leave a comment and let me know what you think! God bless and stay healthy!
  2. Hey Everyone! Who's all ready to bust some thunder chickens upside the head!? Here's a short video to help get you fired up for those spring mornings!
  3. Here's a fun one, guess the beard length on this little girl. Before the peanut gallery gets too excited about taking a bearded hen, this was tagged in the fall of 2013 in Philadelphia NY, she was one of about 50 birds roosted on this farm the first week of October. Something between to 37-38 of them was hens. Locales such as my homesteads I'd be hard-pressed to shoot a hen in the fall or bearded hen in either season. On this farm, it would be no big deal to see 100+ birds in November back when I hunted it.
  4. Hey guys, It's always been a dream of mine to someday run an outfit. I know it's no walk in the park to start up a bussiness, espically in a state like NY but I was wondering if anyone on here has any information and tips they wouldn't mind sharing.
  5. Free Youth turkey hunt sponsored by Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA and NWTF - Saratoga Chapter!!! Kids will get free stuff and a hunt! Must Register by April 1st !!!
  6. I broke down and bought a vortex strikefire 2 red dot for turkey hunting. I was always a bead guy but I have a Mossberg 500 thumbhole turkey gun that for the life of me, I couldn't get to pattern to my liking because it threw patterns high and left with the truglo rifle sights it came with. After missing two turkeys opening day with the gun at 15 and 35 yards I threw it in the safe and pulled out my Franchi Affinity I use for waterfowl and got my limit the second and third week of the season. I hate having a gun collect dust so I figured I'd give it a second chance with the red dot as I should be able to zone in on the best section of the pattern. Any tips for sighting in to save time and money would be appreciated.

  10. I'm looking for and would be interested in a lease in either of these two counties, any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all your help!
  11. I have been out three days this far and have not heard a single gobble here in Putnam county. The second day out i managed to call in two hens hoping one was towing a tom with her but of course no such luck. A buddy of mine shot a nice tom today in Westchester but again I only saw a hen and no toms. Its killing me because I only have so many days i can hunt due to work this year and am starting to feel the pressure, got used to geting a tag filled the first few days. My question is anyone else having a rough start and if so do you think they haven't started up fully yet or they've already breed and are done?
  12. Killed 0940 May 4, 2015 Detailed Narrative: I hunted Saturday Morning but couldn’t raise a gobble. It seemed pretty dead. I figured the boys where pretty much on hens. I was able to get most of the morning off on Monday May 4 so decided to give it another try. Yesterday (Monday) I Initially was set up on the edge of a field again with couple of hen decoys but hadn't heard a gobble or any hen talk from 0530 - 0830. I figured it was too warm and sunny for the field hunt so I decided to forget the field and decoy thing and headed into the woods. I set up near a small pond and blind called for a while. At 0900 I heard a few clucks to my east, shifted position moving 50 yards to the East to get a better view hoping a for a hen with gobbler in-tow. Threw out a few more clucks but no response. At about 0915 sent out a few clucks and purrs followed by some yelps. Heard a gobble far away to the Northwest and a few clucks and putts much closer. Moved 75 yards to the Northwest. Heard some "where are you" putts from the hen and responded in kind. At 0930 heard two gobblers, one estimated at about a 500-600 yards to the Northwest and one closer, about 300 yards to Southwest. I decided to close another 100 yards on the Southwest bird. After getting set up the base of a maple I sent out a few purrs and clucks and was immediately answered by the hen again to the west and the gobbler (now about 200 yards) to the south. At 0935 I sent out a series of purrs and few yelps. A couple of minutes later saw something 100 yards to the south. At 0940 saw the body and a glowing bright red head of a gobbler 60 yards to my Southwest moving Northward. The gobbler would have a CPA of 30 yards and I fired when he reached CPA. He went right down. He was a 19.5 # two-year-old, with one inch spurs. The beard had been almost completely broken off from the snow and ice. After plucking and dressing him for roasting he seemed in very good condition considering the winter and deep fluffy snow we had from late January to mid March. He had an appreciable sponge fat deposit but I imagine he would have weighed in a bit more after a normal winter. I was grateful to take him!

  14. Hey guys I had a quick question that I cant find a clear answer out on the DEC website. My little sister is finally getting her hunting license this year. She will be doing a combo course for Hunting and Bow in March. Now my question, is she allowed to sit in a blind with me for spring turkey? She would obviously not be hunting, nor even holding a bow, just to sit and accompany me while getting used to sitting in a blind for hours. I know she obviously doesn't have 2014/2015 tags so I just want to make sure its okay for her to sit with me. I thought it would be a good way to break her into sitting quietly in the spring rather than in the fall when she will be purchasing a 2015/2016 license. If you could help me out I would really appreciate it.
  15. Yep that figures in the woods not a damned bird to be heard or seen till 11:30 when we come back from brunch. Moved at about 930 talked with about 6 other guys out in the woods and all the same thing nothin talking nothing moving. Went n had breakfast at the local omelette place n all guys in there said same thing not a darn thing moving. Go back to camp go up to top of hill and blow owl call and 3-4 different gobbles. I get set up and they come strolling out at 1201 laughing at me. This Sunday will make up for it goin to springville and setting up on farm land pastures and hard wood setup.
  17. Well looks like rain for the opener. My plans are now going to be changed and not too sure how to handle this hoping they are loud n want to talk. What are some of your guy's tips for hunting turkey in the rain???
  18. Last few years I ahve turkey hunted a scouted a few different areas in the southern tier in NY. They were on state land with private land butting up to them. The main one I have always seen and or heard turkey is on a pacel that is butting upto private land but is perfect location because of a pipeline/field that runs about 3 miles with a hilly area on it. Im normally hunting the top part of hill without decoys but this year I am going to use decoys to see if I can get them to come in and get a shot at one. The far side of the pipeline that butts up agains private land is all hard woods with a row of pines then field and the side I choose to hunt on is public land with hardwoods from road in and it has recently been logged with some second growth and its really the perfect area just not sure if its my setup or what but I can seem to get them to come in to me. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  19. I just couldn't help but wonder, if anyone else on here enjoys the challenge of taking turkeys with small bores? I took a turkey last week, using the .410. I've actually taken quite a few, using the .410, and a 28 gauge I used to have. Has anyone else tried this?
