16. ga hunter
i just got back from our annual northernzone grouse opener while the weather could have been better the hunting was fun. my cocker put up 11 grouse and 4 woodcock in less than desirable rainy/drizzle conditions. while the woods are still pretty full with leaves only 2 shots were afforded on the grouse and niether me or my father were able to connect. the scenery was beautiful and the dog tired out by the end of the weekend. will post some pictures later

Pygmy
Nice report, 16 gauge.. I always considered myself more of a bird hunter than a deer hunter, but I don't have the legs for it anymore, and I no longer have the property to keep dogs.. I still remember opening day of grouse season in 1965 in the southern zone.. A friend of mine and I covered miles that day ( no dogs).. I killed my first limit of 4 grouse with 6 shots, and killed a woodcock that took me 3 shots. I was shooting a 16 gauge Remington 11-48, my first repeating shotgun. As I remember it, my buddy and I walked pretty much non-stop from dawn untl about 4:00 PM.. I have only shot a 4 bird limit of grouse a couple of times since then.... 13BVET
No grouse down here anymore. Can someone post a pic, so I can remember what they used to look like?
16. ga hunter
well im working on the pics but i seem to have lost the cable for the camera. pygmy i too am currently property short for keeping larger breeds but after watching my little american cocker work these last few seasons i don't think i will be going back to a larger dog. the only time i really ever see her lack is in tall grass on pheasants and even then she is hard charging just not cappable of a full days hunt. i too also shoot a remington auto but my 48 only holds 3 shells being a sportsman. but actually had my 28 ga double out for the hunt.
