I guess if you are looking a full 12-24 hours later the deer is definitely dead so no need to carry a weapon to dispatch if still wounded game. I would expect that deer search dogs would be called in sooner than later and may still find a deer that needs to be finished off and you would want a weapon with you to do th job which would throw a monkey wrench in the "just walkin my dog" strategy.

sorry.but if my dog was a sniffing/tracking breed of dog and i lost a nice deer then i would pay the fine if i got one.Especially how deer search is always so backed up this time of year.I just wouldn't carry a weapon with me and be in regular clothes.

A guy i used to work with that didn't even hunt,used to track down wounded deer with his basset hound all the time for guys.

My bulldog could only track down a bowl of dog food.And that's cause it never moves.

My dad hit a big 8 last night. It jumped the bow string and he hit high in the shoulder and the arrow didn't pass all the way through. He searched for 7 hours today until his knees gave out and he's home laid up now. I can't get out until thurday. Sucks the meats wasted but maybe I can find the horns for him.

If he hit him high in the shoulders and he didnt find him I bet he's still alive. would nt be the first shoulder shot deer to survive. My uncle shot one of the unluckiest bucks around a few yrs ago that had two healed over broadheads in his shoulder.
